Our seemingly likely relegation to League One got me thinking, who else in last 10-15 years has been in Premier League and ended up in League One? And whats their situation now -

Leeds (CHAMP) - looking good for promotion (unfortunately) but took at least 3 seasons to get our of League One

Forest (CHAMP)- similar story to Leeds

Norwich (CHAMP) - pushing for Play-offs possibly automatic, took 1 season to get out of League One

Leicester City (CHAMP) - I think they bounced straight back (correct me if wrong!) but now looking good for play-offs

Barnsley (CHAMP) - again took at least two seasons to come back to Championship, look solid now, unlikely to be challenging.

Charlton (L1) - 2nd season in League One, looking good for poss promotion

Southampton (L1) - currently doing ok in 2nd season in League One, docked 10 points last season which meant promotion was unlikely

Pigs (L1) - relegated and promoted, relegated again and looking likely to be down in League One next season

Bradford (L2)- gone to League Two!

Man City (PREM) - relegated, then promoted, then promoted and now Champions League, ok with a bit of help from sum very rich Arabs....

It seems the overall picture is that teams do not bounce back straight away but in some respects going down has ultimately helped in the long run. I hate to admit it but perhaps being in League One will let us clear out the dead wood and take a root and branch look at the running of Sheffield United from top to bottom.

nice bit of optimism mate but it will be a disaster if we go down.. it will take us ten years to get back up after three playoff defeats

Gotta try and stay optimistic. Very interesting though looking at the teams that went down, certainly seem to have sorted their shop out. I dont want relegation and yes we might just struggle to get back in 2, 3 or even 4 seasons but its interesting to see Leeds, Forest, Norwich etc now doing well.

Without new investment coming in our stay in League 1 could be a long one. In fact, i'm increasing concerned that McCabes "race to the bottom" strategy of constant cutting will mean our exit out of League 1 could be in a direction none of us would like to contemplate.

Check the comments section of the Guardian article on us - John has done a list of what happens to team and how long it takes to get back up.Theres a scary number who havent.

I am starting to warm to the idea its still a disaster if we stay up.

We will still have players like Hendo and Cresswell under contract and still have about 10 players that are actually ours at the end of the season.

Either way there isnt a good long term plan because there is no leadership at the club.

I was thinking this earlier. What the hell is going to change if we stay up. nothing, still have players robbing a living off us. Although absolutely gutted and close to tears with it all this season, we may have to take a couple of steps back to go forward.
