We got one on Saturday against Sc-untys,name of Mike Jones, you have to go back a few seasons to find a game he did of our's,Orient home draw 1-1.

His last game was the FA Cup game Leicester v Derby 3-1.

Is it a good or bad thing one of these top prem refs doing a Lge 1 game, will less contact be allowed, will he be whistle happy and spoil the game.

We aren't playing Arsenal or Man Utd so we should be okay.

I felt for Hull on Saturday. Clattenburg and his team effectively cost them the game with their crappy refereeing.

I know this is off topic but. That first Sanchez goal, surely that's ball to hand and not a foul? Unless there's a rule that explicitly states that under no circumstances should a goal stand if it goes in off an attacker's hand, then it's ball to hand and is odd but not technically a foul? Any football nerds care to clear this one up?

Given that the majority of referees are either A) thoroughly incompetent, B) arrogant scumbags or C) both, I doubt it'll have much of a bearing. It's just a matter of degree.

Clusterfuck is meant to be off reffing in China or the U.S isn't he? Good riddance.

If we go out and absolutely tear Scunthalona a new one the ref will be utterly irrelevant.

There's a certain few matches in the Football League that are allocated PL referees on the basis that the match in question is worthy of such an official.

This is one of those.

Radio Shitfield and The Stir will run campaigns claiming bias against the massivist club in the solar system.

Two words: Jamie Hoyland.

But to address your question, touching the ball with a hand/arm must be deliberate to be given as handball. Where on the pitch it occurs and where the ball then goes are wholly irrelevant.

Best prem ref is Michael Oliver. He reffed our cup game v Forest a few seasons back.

Not least because his poor decisions on Saturday cost West Ham two points. Kudos, Mr Oliver, kudos.

Wasn't he also the referee who sent off Ángel Di María for tugging his shirt?

I don't actually mind Clattenberg as a ref... however as a person he seems like a stuck up c**t. You cant blame Clattenberg for the Sanchez goal. He couldn't possibly see it. The linesman was at fault for that goal.

Now onto truly s**t premier league refs. Mike Dean.

So it was legally a goal then. Hull were still really hard done by tho, that Gibbs challenge was clearly a red, and Clucas' handball to give Arsenal the penalty was probably not deliberate. You have to give it in those situations but still.

I think it was Alan Smith who said his hand was in a natural position ...... above his head .... twat

No it wasn't intentional, but no way should a goal have been given ... free kick to 'ull and get on with it .. Lino was a twat

Definitely a goal in my opinion. The ball came back off the goalie far too quickly for him to react and his arm hadn't moved since his original shot.

I agree Gibbs should probably have seen red, but I think Clucas moved his arm towards the ball instinctively and it has to be given.

If it wasn't intentional what would the free kick be for?

Does it have to be intentional ? - seen plenty free kicks and pens given for ball striking the hand ....

Tho giving the free kick for being a twat would have suited me ...... :)

Yes. It has to be intentional. However, as we lack the ability to read minds it can be difficult to ascertain intention. So the general principle is whether the arm is in a 'natural position' when the ball strikes it. That, in itself is difficult to determine but a simple example is if you do the 'starfish' when closing a player down. You're sticking your arms out to make it harder for them to play the ball past you so if it hits your arm, it's handball. If your arms are low, near your sides, then it isn't.

And, of course, if you move your hand towards the ball, it's handball. A possible exception may be if it inadvertently hits your arm on its way down, as you're jumping.

It's complicated and subjective, which is why it's one of the most common things refs get wrong. And, unlike offside, which is over-complicated by the constant changing of the rule, there's not that much that can be done to improve it.
