where in the league do blades fans think we will finish next season honest answers

I will tell you on the friday before our 1st game.(pending injuries and other ins and outs)bit too early for predictions methinks.

these signings have filled me with slightly more optimism. Also, i must look at it realistically and would estimate at 6th place and to lose to cardiff in t'playoff semi :)

The fixtures should give us an early indication of whether the club has got its act together and we're at home first, last and Boxing Day - and aren't coming out with some bullshit about wanting to be away from home on St Leger Day.

a lot of people say we will be in top 6 but some of em haven't took there blinkers off. Of course i want united to finish in top 6 but depending on what player we bring in/out so with an honest answer i think 10th because we still have blackwell.

Is this the same guy who nearly took us from close to the bottom of the league to close to the play offs in his first season and took us to third in the league the year after?

... light the touch paper and stand back.

I thought that the St Ledger day issue was that we are 'paired' with Donny in the fixture setting. In fact, we are paired with all the smaller teams in the area, e.g. when we play at home, Donny, Barnsley, Rotherham and Chessie all play at home. Must be some kind of throw back to when the pigs were massive, I guess, and the whole of the region beat a path to Hillsborough. Nice of the FA to give us minnows a chance of getting a crowd for our games.

Anyway, the thread is about predictions of where we will finish, and frankly old chap, making that pronouncement based on whether we are home or away on the first day (which is not in our control anyway) is a bit wierd really. I though it was more to do with the quality of the squad we had, but no matter. Maybe you've got nothing much to moan about?

For me, we look like a top 8 side again, but I'd put more emphasis on injuries than fixture lists to be honest. If we secure the players we are linked with, and they all stay fit, then its not out of the range of possibilities that we could go higher. I don't think we have enough to be top two, unless they pull a spectacular transfer of the scale of an Ebanks-Blake...

top of the league, as ever I am the eternal optomist prior to a ball kicked in anger.

IF the sqaud stayed fit last season we'd of made the play offs. IF the same happens this season we could sneak 2nd!

2nd (if we keep a settled side)

geez, there are some red and white spectacles been worn this morning.

last time I looked we had a poor manager (with no tactical nouss whatsoever) and 16/17 contracted players (of which half are either shit or injury prone). We finished 8th last season and since then have lost key players and are further reducing the wage bill. Sure the division is poor (and it is early days) but I'd be shocked if we are anywhere near 2nd all season.

Exactly. A poor league. We was only 5 points off the play offs dispite the injurys and loan players last season!

I think we will dominate the division & smash every team 5 nil as we romp to the title.

Angels will desend from heaven to BDTBL and Morgan will suddenly sprout a halo.

Or we could just scrape the play offs............ :D

What else have we got if we havent a bit of optimism Olle.

The division is indeed poor; and thats why we have as good a chance as anyone else. I am no Blackwell clapper, but I wouldnt go as far as saying he has no tactical nous whatsoever. He is simply guilty of being limited tactically and tends to stick to what he knows. He's no Wenger but he's not an idiot either - tactics are not where I have the biggest beef with him.

For me we have a handful of players who arent good enough for this division, I wouldnt say half as I think that is an exaggeration. Lets look at the positives in what we have;

Morgan - Inspirational captain, you want him on your side
Ertl - Good solid pro, will be reliable
Lowton - Looked promising in his first appearance. Jury is out but the signs are good.
Monty - Love him or hate him, he'll run through brick walls for you
Britton - Rated by some as the best midfielder outside the top flight
Williamson - Yes he's injury prone (sadly), but if we can get him right he's a classy operator
Ward - People are suggesting he's injury prone which is bollocks. He got injured and then we rushed him back, causing another injury. Quality player with terrific pace.
Cresswell - Form striker in the league towards the end of the season. Another one you want on your side
Bogdanovic - Looked the part on occasions for Barnsley, we'll see........
Evans - Unimpressed with his first season but he does show flashes and has proved he's a good player in the past

I realise we still have certain issues in our squad. We are without a no.1 keeper and we dont have a good left back at the club either but lets see what the club come up with. The players they are targeting are the right sort we should be looking at so I'm satisfied they're trying to do positive things. I feel lifted with what we've signed after the disappointment of Paddy and Naysmith.

Apart from QPR and possibly Burnley (possibly) who is likely to have a better squad on paper???? I dont see anyone.

not knocking your optimism Lou, but I don't feel any at all.

I think Britton is a big singning and I'd like to see us get the best out of him. However I can't see it.

I expect more hoofball, more negative tactics (particularly away from home), more poor management, more poor tactics and more disappointment. Talented players such as Evans and Britton will fail to fulfill potential because they don't fit in with Blackwell's effort. There'll be a lot of huffing, puffing, trying from the likes of Monty, Quinn and Eyrtl but we'll fall short.

(IMO) the only chance we have of getting anywhere near automatic promotion is to sign a couple of really quality defenders. If we get a decenbt defence and they stya fit then we can make the play offs. It's no conincidene that when we finished 3rd a few seasons ago we had a back 4 of Walker, Morgs, Killa and Naysmith (the best defence in the league at the time).

I predict, as ever, that Delia will be roundly pissed on many occasions causing much hilarity amongst her comrades.

As for everything else, you hope for the best and expect the worst.

Up the Blades.

Who would have thought that a thread that asked where we would finish that people would have differing opinions? Oh and just to bake your "brain" a touch further, anyone could be right.

Christ, some people.

I cant blame your lack of optimism. As Linz alluded to in the last post, being a Blade is all about expecting the worst. We're used to being built up and then let down right at the end. My optimism is born more out of the lack of quality opposition than anything United are doing (though I do think they are making the right sounds).

I am optimistic that we can make a decent fist of it, more than actually thinking we are a good bet for automatic. I think it will depend entirely on that usual mix of good fortune and application on the pitch. I am not suggesting that we can take the league by storm but I do think a top 2 finish isnt entirely out of the question. About 14-15 teams in that division will be capable of it next season with luck on their side at the right moments.

You're quite right though, defence will be the key. United are unlikely (based on the evidence of last season) to play attractive attacking football, so our ability to strangle teams at Bramall Lane will have a big bearing on our league position.

Despite that, I do get the impression that contrary to popular belief - KB has reviewed last season and is attempting to alter our approach in the way we play. I can see that from the players he is trying to sign. The likes of Bogdanovic, Britton and Surman are all comfortable with the ball at their feet and are not particularly physical players. These players are vastly different to some of those he has brought in before.

All things considered I think it is quite apparent (although he wont admit it), that he has listened to what has been said about the team and is trying to rectify these issues. I do think he has preferred a direct style most of his managerial career but I dont think he is daft enough to finally sign proper ball players and smash it over their heads! Some will argue he has done that already but what has he actually signed in terms of proper ball players???? Williamson and Ward, thats about it. That is why my beef has been more about the type of player he has gone for, as I feel this has dictated the way we have to play.

If I'm wrong about that I will gladly admit so come the winter but what we've seen so far is enough to suggest to me that he is going in a different direction. If he tries it, it might not work but lets see.

One subject that I would be interested to hear your opinion on is Monty. Now that we have signed Britton (who apparently is a fluent attacking midfield player), do you think a partnership between the two will flourish? I know you've touched on the issue of balance in midfield before........

I know where you're coming from here Bladesway but this is Olle's opinion. I dont personally agree with it but he's entitled to it. He has put it across in a passionate way as he always does but I dont mind that as long as it isnt doesnt attempt to ridicule others, which it doesnt.

Sorry to jump in Olle I'm sure you can defend yourself.
