Can't agree more, to risk anyone not 100% now could be the difference between promotion and not come the play offs. Onward and Upwards

Given the team we are playing surely we can rest players that have had a knock we are playing the bottom club.

It's a really difficult call. Yeovil have a new manager and they may well be playing for their future.

Also look how things turned out against Crewe, who have a worse GD I think.

The margins are fairly narrow, and if you start out less than full throttle it's really hard to lift your game.

We really need to be up for it.

But then players need a rest.

Another judgement call.

Yes I agree I did say in another post we need to win, win, win to keep up the momentum, if we go back to the Rotherham game last season the youngsters did a blinding job, yes a new manager does sometimes get a struggling team to play, we should put the resting player's on the bench as a backup, bring them on if we need to, thanks for your reply always appreciated.

Ah but then he will have been tinkering with the team and he will be upsetting people again. No it's got to be the full team and it doesn't matter if they are injured, or the fans will be angry..........

And to cap it all I see their new manager is Paul Sturrock......:(

I don't think it is a dificult call, if a player isn't 100% fit at this stage of the season then don't risk him. Ultimately, only Clough can make that decision with some feedback from the medical team.

F'rinstance:

Do you play a 85% (or 90%, or whatever%) fit Davies or a 100% fit McNulty? Davies might win us the game through his presence and/or a goal. McNulty, based on his afternoon out at Oldham, might not. Or he might.

Your choice:
Increase your chance of a win but decrease your chance of an important player being available Satdi.
or
Decrease your chance of a win but increase your chance of an important player being available Satid.

Repeat in several positions.

Scratch chin. Repeat x 50.

Pull players names out of a hat.

Cross fingers.

No point in any risks at this stage and we SHOULD have the points in the bag and a big enough squad these days to be able to rest (or not risk) a fair few without it having too much effect. It would be great to have a settled team now but that's not going to happen so make the changes and get the team ready for the last couple.

We could probably get away with;

Turner
Alcock, McGahey, Basham, Freeman
Flynn, Doyle, Scougal, Reed, Davies (B)
McNulty

I get what you're saying Bill but if Davies isn't 100% and McNulty is then yes i would play McNulty because i have faith in him. You really have slated his performance Saturday but come on, how much game time has he had? I think you're been harsh on McNulty who has double figures for us this season with hardly a consistent run of games.

McNulty was awful at Oldham but I said elsewhere he does need game time, and I'm pretty sure I posted advocating playing him in future games. I was surprised bc when he did get on recently at the Lane for a cameo he seemed to have learned from Davies and be holding up the ball well. Satdi it was like he was trying to grab a bar of soap in the shower. He gave possession (clean ;)) away in good positions time and time again.

Don't blame him for missing the chance. He hit the target. Most go in from there. Some don't.

Foulkes Jr Sr thinks he's better as a sub. Maybe.

So there's another factor: do you keep a rusty striker on the bench or risk trying to play him back into form?

Fwiw McNulty's goal at Rochdale was one of the best I've ever seen us score. Win Possession. Short pass. Long pass. Run. Finish. It really was top class.

We do score some great goals.

I stand by what i said and was it actually worth it, no it fucking wasn't.

Two injuries in the first half and one was Davies.

No one expected Flynn to get squashed though.

Wonder if players were holding back so as not to get injured?

You can use that one for free Nige

At least we will be super fit for the play offs then. We should have a fully fit squad.

Other players are clearly either carrying knocks or simply knacked, whatever it is needs sorting before we take the playoffs on, we can't afford this kind of thing to fuck us up.

I agree with you.

You would have thought a manager would know that.

All this talk of resting players and being knackered!
Didn't Bristol City win 6-0 away to Bradford tonight? And they've been to Wembley and won a cup final already this season!

When you play whilst carrying an injury you can't give 100%, that should be clear. It's obvious that Bristol City haven't carried injuries and this is why they are where they are and have done what they've done. You rest injured players, don't risk them. The knackered players shouldn't be knackered, they're professionals and should still be fit at this stage of the season, it's just unacceptable. I have just spoke to someone who went tonight and he said we didn't start until it was too late and even then it wasn't full throttle, not acceptable for those who've travelled down.

Maybe Bristol City didn't buy players with the same history of injuries as the ones we did.

I thought signing nearly 3 dozen players in the summer and in January would cover us in case of injury?

I guess no one expected Clough to fall out with some of the players though.
