Pre-Match View From Wednesday

In January, the team thought Wednesday were beaten before kick off.
Mustn't happen again.
I think we underestimate how poorly we had been playing for 2 months and how deep they defended for the majority of the game. It was a stalemate with little quality but I'm not sure we underestimated them. We just weren't playing very well

I’m absolutelty hating them being this despondent before a derby match, I much prefer it when they are spewing their usual cocky, over confident shit, as often they are setting themselves up for a fall.

Personally I always struggle before any derby match, the nerves always kick in, and I can never allow myself to feel confident. I don’t know if Westwood, Hutchinson and Forestfairy will all suddenly reappear on Friday night and it has all been pig subterfuge, all I want to do is get this game out of the way.

Their bit about about them dominating us in the 80s and 90s made me laugh. Have they forgotten we did the double over them in 91/92 for example. Davidson (2), Whitehouse(2), Deane ?

Any type or margin of defeat will hurt both side's ego. Anyone that says any different is delusional

Putting pride to one side the possible table positions after the weekend are:

Sheffield United:
  • Win - Top (for the night at least)
  • Draw - 2nd (for the night at least)
  • Lose - worse place finish after the weekend cannot be below 6th

Sheffield (secretly wishing that they were us) Wendy:
  • Win - Possibly as high as 12th but unlikely that none of the teams directly above them will pick up a point or 3
  • Draw - Highest 16th
  • Lose - Possibly as they are now (in 17th) or maybe even lower

So out of the several scenarios that are mentioned above, which position would you rather be in and who is most under pressure for this game?

Oh and after this match the GAP will either be 7, 10, or 13 points. Not a bad start for the Dog and Duck tbf

Spot on - and Friday's team will likely include Norwood, Egan, Freeman, McGoldrick and Sharp, none of whom played in the January game. We started with fan favourite John Lundstram in central midfield, and Clarke and Donaldson (Donaldson!) up front - who was of course infamously replaced by James Wilson.

If Wednesday can replicate that gameplan from January then they definitely have a shot at getting something, but at the same time we'll likely have much more quality on the pitch than we did then.

Why did they never hammer us when we were not so good.... see below.

Any Blade that even thinks we will hammer them needs to look no further back than our 3-1 win at their place (Bobby Davison) we beat the Pigs who had not long since beat Man U in the Lge Cup Final.

It was pissing it down all that game and guess what it will be doing the same on Friday.

They are not as bad as they make out,i wont be surprised if they win 2-0.

Can you ever imagine typing or saying that say, a 3-0 defeat to them would be "okay" or words to that effect, irrespective of league position or form?

They weren't pulling any trees up last September but they were going to destroy us. Now look at them.

Cuckold Football, it's the future.

I like doing these scenario things:

S24SU:
We win = Meh ;)
We draw = Missed opportunity
We lose = Meltdown

Porktalk:
They win = "We can make the autos" Jos is God again and Tuna is back on the menu !
They draw = "Best win of the season and with 29 injured players"
They lose = Meltdown with final acceptance of pending doom and relegation - BUT wait, all is not lost! - they still are Bigger, Better Older and have a far superior 'stadium' and 'players' and the Premier League can't wait until the Wendies are back in their rightful place.

Likely?!!.....Likely??!!! Wash your mouth out young man. Of course we'll have more quality than Chansiri's bitches, how else would you explain the points difference between the Blades and the over-paid chancers masquerading as well honed sportsmen?

Seriously, you're completely right, that game seems like a lifetime ago, and the turn around in our squad has meant that we now have depth and greater quality to call upon. Not for one moment do I think that there's still not work to do, but currently we're far and away the better side residing in Sheffield. I can already hear voices suggesting that a derby is a one-off, well yes, the dynamic may have an added intensity, but given that so few players are born and bred within South Yorkshire, we can only hope that our captain and manager create the right environment enabling each member of the team to play to the level that's required. A game like this should need little to instil the attitude necessary, let's hope we impose our game on the other lot, if that happens it won't be long before ill-discipline and a lack of nous will hand this game to us on a plate (who said I'm feeling bullish?).

Think you've misread me pal, I said we'll likely have more quality in Friday's team than we did in our team for that January game :)

Have they forgot we always manage to bugger it up? We'd pull the only ladyboy out of a line up of 1 ladyboy and 1000 women. But if you're into ladyboys I guess youd call that a success.

Their attempts at playing it down is brilliant. Trying to make out anything less than a 3-0 win for us is a failure.

Bizarre mindset.

After the 2-0 game, Carlton Palmers "wait until we get you back to our place" comment came back to bite him on the arse.

So now it's not just a draw that's a win - it's any thing less than 5 - 0 .

After our 3 - 1 victory we should expect nothing less than endless choruses of "I'm Wednesday till I die " and " The Owls are going up " :D

WTF ??

“We always seem to win the significant games between us. Boxing day 79, fa cup semi final and in our promotion season in 2012. Whatever happens in this game it doesn’t shape the future of either club although it will not doubt go on their honours board.”

derbies are about league games , not one off cup games
and they deride our winning league one as irrelevant but still class boxing day as their zenith moment, in the same league
they are full of contradiction and can only name 3 good derby days in 50 years
they move the goal posts for their arguments at every opportunity

what was significant about boxing day , both teams were probably the worst in our histories

I think the metaphor that you're trying to find is, if we fell into a barrel of tits we'd come out sucking our thumb.

One set of fans in the world that should not even be allowed to attempt self-deprecation are the piggy bastards. It just sounds fucking contrived and awful. What a horrible set of wankers.

Wonder who will play the 'Im a cunt called Ross wallace' role on Friday. He cost us the game last year by being an irritant twat for 90 minutes.

You useless bastards, we gave you 5 years.

“More worried that after this season Utd will have had 13 from last 19 seasons. Our city dominance of the 80s and 90s and lengthy spells throughout time has been surrendered. Thanks to all the pretenders in charge that have aided in this.”

Claimed 0-0 as a victory last season they’ll claim 0-3 as a victory this season. Delusional you’re not kidding. A scrappy 1-0 will do
