Villa fans saying everything we'd be saying if the circumstances were reversed. If we were playing a team that has only won 3 games all season and can't buy a goal of course we'd be bullish and confident. Nothing contentious about any of it. We are massively out of our depth and they are going well. Is anyone surprised by their confidence?

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has confirmed in his pre match press conference that both Jack Grealish and Matty Cash remain unavailable for Villa’s trip to Sheffield United tomorrow.

Fantasy Football transfers must have been updated :)

And how is it a conduit which bonds are formed if the starting position is hatred?

Easy, you bond over what you hate as well as what you love. All are part of the rich tapestry of life.

All clubs have fans like that. Some of the things I see Villa fans write about Blues and Baggies fans is disgusting. But when we are in the same division those are the games that Villa fans look forward to most. No better joy than getting one over the neighbour. Take your noisy neighbours. I have seen many Blades fans saying they hope they get relegated this season. This is understandable. However, and assuming Championship football next season, what games would Blades fans look forward to most. I suspect that Wednesday home and away would be quite close to the top of the list
No! I would hope Wednesday are relegated. No hate, just prefer United to be better off.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I agree and definitely hope Wednesday stay up

I think I will continue to avoid that part of the rich tapestry of life. Life is too short for that in my opinion and we have all far to many other things and more important things to worry about

Good for you.

I think you are safe to be better off than them for quite a few years. The two years in the PL has moved Sheffield United to a level that Wednesday can only dream of. Even if relegated this season. The squad, the money, the parachute payments etc. They will be a long time at your coattails.

Part of me wants The Baggies to get relegated and it is nice to see them doing badly. However, out of the 14 games we have remaining this season the one I am most looking forward to is The Baggies at Villa Park. We beat them 3-0 at their place and I would get so much pleasure out of doing it again. These are the games I really look forward to. We are not going to win a cup and nor are we going to qualify for the Champions League so these games are what I look forward to this season.

What's rivalry if not injected with hatred? It is the elixir of life, the tonic of the soul.

I'll leave 'banter' to the Soccer AM types who think football was invented in 1992.

Mate, I'm not a Soccer AM type, I just don't hate someone because they support a different football team.

You work in the NHS so you'll have seen plenty of examples of what I mean with the following. I save my hate for things that take the love of your life and there's absolutely fuck all you can do about it. Cancer, I hate with a fucking passion.

Hating someone because they support a different team? Not for me. I might mock and rip the piss, but not hate.

Dean Smith says Villa without captain Jack Grealish, who is set to miss a third game through a leg injury sustained in the build-up to last month's match against Leicester City. Also sidelined is Matty Cash (hamstring) while long-term absentees Kortney Hause (foot) and Wesley Moraes (knee) remain out.

Villa and Leeds like to think that everyone hates them when in reality no one could really give a shit about them.

It's not the sort of hate that makes you want to stab somebody in the street, it's football hatred, the type that means you love your Pig-supporting best mate, but wish him abject misery each weekend.

I know of Rangers and Celtic fans that are good friends but think nothing of calling each other Fenian/Hun bastards and singing very unpleasant songs at each other.

There's nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

Another team that fall over if you fart on them. Can see this getting a bit agro.

Thanks Roy.

Not really but Leeds are a bit salty, and many on here are too after the ghost goal.

we don't think anyone ‘hates’ us other than our local rivals.

As for the few Smith comments, again I don’t get them, he’s just a very up front English manager who, unlike many in the top flight, has been poached from job to job and is now doing well in the top flight. Not many managers who have been in the game as long as he has can show a CV of no sackings.

as for the the game...I think it will be tight and losing Grealish is a big miss for us. He is just simply outstanding and better than midtable Prem standard. We haven’t really been clicking over the past few games (even before Grealish’s injury) so I expect it to be a game of attrition again.

we haven’t got lots of pace in us at the moment, Grealish out, Barkley woeful(ly off form), Cash out, Targett now sitting rather than overlapping Jack, so can see us trying to play very similar to how we did v Leeds. Thing is I think that will play into your hands a bit. 1-1 or you could sneak it 0-1, 1-2.

As for us being arrogant, pompous, and smug? Well, yeah, we are. But only with our neighbours.

Bielsa’s team do it and he’s a genius and Leeds are brilliant to watch. Smith needs to put a few vowels at the end of his name and all the sages will nod at his wonderful unEnglish coaching style that is just too clever for our up and at em Neanderthalic game.

Villa:

  • Think they are better than they are.
  • Got away with survival last season.
  • Got away with a win earlier in the season, when we more than matched them with 10 men.
  • Are from the country's scruffiest city.

I would give my right arm to play for the mighty Blades, but as a keeper, I suspect I wouldn't get much game time.
