Quite so, in fact he was telling me about it in the Bankers Draft last weekend after the derby. He’s 95 this year (born 1923) so was two years old. The team paraded the Cup round the city centre and Baby Uncle Fred’s mum took him to see. Not sure if he is remembering it, though, or remembering being told about it when he was a bit older.

A mate of mine is a steward. A few seasons ago when we played Pompey i was talking to him and some other stewards outside the ground and they were keeping a look out for the guy with the big hat and the bell , so that they could ban him from the ground unless he gave up his bell until after the game. I asked why and was told "Health and safety mate". The sad bastards couldn't wait for him to turn up. Losers and BELL ends!

History wise, SUFC and PNE are pretty similar and most of the best bits were around the late 19th century ... we've won the cup 4 times, runners up twice and league once, runners up twice, they've won the cup twice, runners up 5 times and league twice, runners up 6 times. Obviously we've got a bigger ground and fanbase, but it's arguable they've got a better league and cup record for finishing in the top two. I'd also point out PNE have been to two cup finals since the war / in living memory for some (54 and 64), are there any Blades still alive who can remember the last time we were in a cup final?

We were in the Cup Final at half time against Hull City. :(

Don't know if this's has been asked earlier in thread but how many of our newbies are cup tied?

If their memories have deteriorated at the same rate as mine then those still alive may not remember it. You can remember that things happened but you don’t always remember them happening!

he would..he's from Preston i believe

I didn’t read it as he thought identical in terms of numbers. More the same type of fan. Northerners who stick by their team when it’d be easier to follow more successful clubs.

Agreed, but somehow (an increasing trend) some seem to assume its all about our "massive" attendance. :(
