Roy's View From... Pre-Match View From Palace

I'm enjoying the way teams think "overlapping centre-backs" means we literally play a 1-7-2 formation and hang the consequences.

Yup. Seems like our one-and-only tactic has been sussed. Thank fuck nobody in the Championship was so clever.

Friday morning is Pre Match View time. Don't accuse me of selling my soul ;)

'Get yer Pre-Match View From Roybgiv! Three pound fifty!'

Cheers Roy. 😍

Don't get this 'Leeds implosion' handing us automatic promotion spouted by the ignorant.
Surely everyone knows there were more than three teams in the Championship last season?

Always had shite support. One of the lowest ever away followings I saw at Lane was Palace mid week in the 90s I think it was. Must have been less than 100. Now they've got their manufactured ultras and are media darlings.

Palace are probably the biggest club in the south to have never won anything significant. Barely a London club, Croydon was in Surrey until the 60s.

It's hard to talk about our system without sounding pretentious and I'm not surprised that teams who haven't watched us think we're just some gung ho team waiting to get taught a lesson by the more disciplined, more skilled, Prem teams. Thing is, we had the best defence in the division. Granted we achieved that in no small part by holding possession and pinning teams back, but we barely conceded a goal on the counter. The centre backs don't just charge up the pitch and leave space, Fleck and Norwood drop into position to cover. They'll spend time in the game where they drop into centre half and full back positions. While they aren't as strong in the air they certainly aren't more likely to get beaten in a race than our defenders and that protects us on the counter as well as any team. At the same time, Egan is there as a more traditional stopper and so we always have a proper centre back in position.

The Wilder system isn't about throwing players aimlessly forward, it's about having a very technically proficient and intelligent group of players who are capable of the fluidity required to play multiple positions. When it works, it's the closest thing to Total Football you're likely to see.

Now, if all the Palace fans (and others we'll play) want to say is "Yeah, but we've got the likes of Zaha and they're a shit ton better than anything you've had to play against in the last three seasons" then, sure, fucking obviously. You think I'm going to be surprised if Mo Salah makes Basham look like a mug? He can do that to anyone. I will not be shocked or even disappointed if it turns out that the rest of the division just have better players than we do. What we aren't going to see is that our system is a lame gimmick. It's solid as a rock.

Thanks Roy, was hoping to get a day in advance bonus 👍Anyone that has a high pressing style that can pass accurately and quickly will shit all over them". Thought this dude was talking about us till I got to the end of the sentence. Bring it on!

Well there was me thinking that we were under the radar with a few of these “premiership big boys” ..

It seems not !

Decent comments in there..

Decent enough comments in the main with a bit of humour. Usually seem a good set compared with most suvverners TBF...except when they beat us in the POF.

One or two decent comments but on the other hand some right clueless bullshit.
Looks like this lot are the Premier League version of Brentford with their fast flowing counter attacks and fast accurate passing, I'm absolutely shitting mysen thinking about Sunday.
Such a big powerful club too six years in the Premier League and they are loaded much bigger than little old Sheffield United.
This load of bollocks is from fans of a club who since their return to the top flight have averaged between 24,000 to 25,455 last season and can't sell an away allocation of 2900. Sound as deluded as the S6 massive. I'd like to see their average should they be relegated to the championship let alone League one, I know for certain their gate would revert back to the sub 20k.
A wannabee London club with fans who wave a few flags about and think they are like Italian ultra's I bet some knob gets em going with a megaphone probably that knob who shouts Stoooop Breeeexit on the news. No doubt they do clappers and half and half scarves too. Do they have a band like wendy as well ?
I hope we hammer these tossers.

I have nothing against the palace fans who have the singing section, good on em.
When recent historys are compared, as a club they are no were near the likes of the support that we get. They would fall into sub 10k in league 1.
Looking forward to an open game on Sunday.

Nice stuff weird one.

Bit like being here two years ago when we first came up to the championship. All the same cliché stuff, the dismissal of our team and tactics. Grand...back to the ferrets!

If we're ferret shaggers then then palace fans are cantona shaggers

This view from reminds me a lot of the view froms when we first came up from League one, the Brentford one very much springs to mind.

A lot of typical London arrogance in those comments.

That false narrative about us only getting promotion due to Leeds Bottling it is getting tiresome now as well.

Too right,
There was a time when Leeds were 10 or more points in front of us, so even if Leeds did bottle it we still had to catch them.
Leeds bottled it because of the intense pressure we put on them, and winning at Elland Road finished them off
