"We’re weak in the full back positions and toothless up front.

If we hold a firm line at the back and take our chances we should be winning this."

So basically if you don't concede any goals, and score at least 1, you should win? Didn't realise Michael Owen was a Palace fan.

Make your mind up lad... You're weak in the are where we are strongest, and you hope your toothless attack take their chances?

Early contender for Sheffield Wednesday levels of deludamol?

I'm enjoying the way teams think "overlapping centre-backs" means we literally play a 1-7-2 formation and hang the consequences.

This has been quite noticeable, as is the palpable fatigue from other fans hearing about it. I think unless we just leave Egan completely by himself while the rest attack at least 4 times a game we’ve not met the wild expectations they have of what it is.

sixty ten ;)

Thanks Roy.

I once had a ferret, it was found in a washing machine almost drowned in a house near my school, the woman involved took it to the school as she didn't know what to do & for some bizarre reason was given to me to try & revive. This I managed to do & kept her a few years where she was happy in a run we built out the back. First time I took her out of the box I carried her home in she sank her fangs in my chin & wouldn't let go, probably took half an hour to loose her jaw. She was lovely, but after that there was absolutely no chance of her getting a shag from me.

Also Billy Sharp always scores against everyone.
tbf he does though :D.. interesting how most of the vitriol comes from the smaller teams isnt' it. the bigger clubs tend to have more respect

Our system is just a ‘Gimmick’

Roy Hodgson will put a stop to this bollocks.

That’s Roy Hodgson...

Roy Hodgson who was in charge of England vs Iceland..

That Roy Hodgson......

Aye alright.

i tried borrow a pen off roy hodgson once but it was pointless as his pocket was full of pre prepared resignation letters

alot of palace fans. seem to have forgotten the transfer window & think they got a motivated zaha who loves the club. not a guy that want to leave so much despite being touted for big clubs he was willing to settle for everton

Palace dont win without zaha

Leeds bottling it eh? Well we won all our games they lost theirs.....If that’s what they mean?

I take it you don't much care for feisty females then?

Right set of knobs and twats. Will be coming up to the Lane on Sunday from London by National Express with 40 odd of the fuckers. Can't wait for the return trip.
UTB

DirtyLeeds collapse somehow broke all known convention and got us promoted straight through two divisions:

“Wasn’t their promotion more about Leeds implosion?”

“Yes, that’s the only reason that they’re not in league one right now. Leeds bottling it.”

To be fair I think the second comment was fuelled by sensible sarcasm which isn't conveyed in Roys thread.

Some level headed, well informed comments mixed with some absolute bullshit.

When Jack and Bash get forward, George and Enda tuck in to cover. And somehow the best defence in the league last year is garbage now "because Premier League". There's no way we'll cope if they're on the top of their game.

If Roy Hodgson calls it a day they should just nip in and take Wilder from us. They can because they're a bigger club. They've got 'loadsamoney', right? Lol, maybe they could just buy Sheffield United. And "why not?", I say. It'd be an honour being part of a giant of English football and would sort the ownership squabble out once and for all.

We only got promoted because Leeds fell apart... but our points total would have won the league the year they snuck up through the playoffs.

They very much remind me of Brentford with their "they don't realise they're in the league above now", and "We're established at this level and they think they can just come up and compete. Oh the cheek of it" comments. We ended up taking 10 points off them in two seasons.

I hope for similar against these. Maybe then the idiot division of their fanbase might learn a few things.

Yes yes we’ve heard it all before. We know you’ve got better players than us and our system cannot possibly work after a promotion now we’re playing the big boys. We know that we’re a bunch of scrubbers from up Norf and yes we did probably once kidney punch your wheelchair using granny while she was minding her own business.

It also amazes me how Woy Hodgeson is still a premier league manager at a decent club. Fuck me.

“Ugly ugly football”
Wow yet another set of clueless twats.

Also Crystal Palace are not a bigger club than united.

“It’s an interesting tactic, but one you can get away with in the Championship. Would you want your Centre backs high up the pitch, with a midfield player left to mark Wilf, or even someone like Kane.
Last season they could get away with it in the Championship where they were one of the best teams. That’s not the case now.

Didn't someone say this when we went into the Championship? 😄

It's hard to talk about our system without sounding pretentious and I'm not surprised that teams who haven't watched us think we're just some gung ho team waiting to get taught a lesson by the more disciplined, more skilled, Prem teams. Thing is, we had the best defence in the division. Granted we achieved that in no small part by holding possession and pinning teams back, but we barely conceded a goal on the counter. The centre backs don't just charge up the pitch and leave space, Fleck and Norwood drop into position to cover. They'll spend time in the game where they drop into centre half and full back positions. While they aren't as strong in the air they certainly aren't more likely to get beaten in a race than our defenders and that protects us on the counter as well as any team. At the same time, Egan is there as a more traditional stopper and so we always have a proper centre back in position.

The Wilder system isn't about throwing players aimlessly forward, it's about having a very technically proficient and intelligent group of players who are capable of the fluidity required to play multiple positions. When it works, it's the closest thing to Total Football you're likely to see.

Now, if all the Palace fans (and others we'll play) want to say is "Yeah, but we've got the likes of Zaha and they're a shit ton better than anything you've had to play against in the last three seasons" then, sure, fucking obviously. You think I'm going to be surprised if Mo Salah makes Basham look like a mug? He can do that to anyone. I will not be shocked or even disappointed if it turns out that the rest of the division just have better players than we do. What we aren't going to see is that our system is a lame gimmick. It's solid as a rock.
