Just had a look and had to show this little gem...
"Genuinely think we are further ahead in our journey though. They remind me a bit of when we got promoted under Lambert - high energy, physical. But they are more defensive. Thing is, we then had years under hughton when we basically realised we all hated defensive football, it wasn't worth it. Now we are in the Premier League having a go at playing attacking football. Yes it isn't working out but at least we are trying to play good football and ultimately it will pay dividends as we are good to watch week in week out and our players are worth loads as we bring through the youth. Our squad must be worth a lot more than theirs. I would still rather watch us every week. What is the point of kicking your way to stay in the Prem year by year. "
What the actual Fk???
I watched that game yesterday and first half they stuck a tonne of players behind the ball, played one up top and did very little to worry us, apart from Pukki's chance against the post. It was fairly open, but we seemed to build in waves, happy to let them have possession at times
On the other hand, we played the ball beautifully, left to right, keeping possession when we needed to, not wasting the ball by aimlessly pumping the ball forward, worked the left side a lot through Fleck, Stevens and JOC, before switching play, Norwood pulling the strings deeper. What i liked, as Norwich sat deep was that we didn't panic, we went back to Egan/ Bash/ JOC and they kept the ball for long enough to draw Norwich out, Then we went again.
Second half was a slightly different story, they went 2 up top and tried to get on the ball more. This allowed us to use the right side, through Bash, Lunny and Baldock, going at them again and again, Fleck was magnificent throughout, making his runs into the box to support Billy and McBurnie.
Last 15-20 mins i think we were sitting back too much and they created a few chances, the Hendo triple save and McG clearance being the big one.
Were we defensive? I don't think so, but we were extremely organised out of possession, ready to steal the ball by pressing them when they came too close
Physicality? Yep, we're a no nonsense side, Billy and McBurnie were into their centre halves all game, Billy giving Hanley a torrid time.
Direct? Not really, we work the ball down the wings with our two trios, linked together by Norwood. When we get the chance in the second and final third to put the ball into the box, it goes in. But mostly we were patient
Passing progressive football? Yep, in possession i thought we were much improved on recent weeks, going forward and forcing Norwich back.
I have no idea what that guy watched, but it wasn't yesterdays game.
Given the choice, i'd rather watch United with our progressive football, mixing neat football with direct when needed, than the Norwich backs to the wall approach which is based on falling over at every opportunity to waste time. Its a horrible sad sight
