Roy's View From... Pre-Match View From Coventry

The Sunderland one is, I think, from 1977.

Coventry stayed up and Sunderland went down partly as a result of Jimmy Hill announcing during the Coventry-Bristol City game that the Sunderland game was already over (there was a delayed kick off at the Coventry match, somewhat controversially). For the next 10 mins or so Coventry and Bristol City did a West Germany-Austria and Coventry got the point they needed.

Why this makes Coventry hate Sunderland, rather than the other way round, I have no idea. But they are desperate for any connection.
 



I don't hate Cov fans as much as they hate us. Fairplay to them for coming out the other side of the SISU debacle. They played home matches away at Northampton and Birmingham amongst places for a while which must have been awful. My mum is from Cov so I have a soft spot for them, even if it is a total dive of a place.

They have done very well this season and will go up. But then likely come straight down like we do anyway.

If we win tomorrow then I will believe we have a chance of reaching the playoffs. utb
 
They’ve had this weird hate for us since we dared to play to win a game while they were protesting.

Billy scored that late winner while they were trying to disrupt the game as much as possible and they’ve hated us ever since.

We were playing for a promotion where every 3 points mattered.

Rolls reversed, if we were protesting tomorrow would they play to win or be happy to draw the game? If they then won the game would they celebrate it? Of course they fucking would.

Fucking weirdos.

They’re a good side though to be fair to them. That consistency in approach over the last season or two under fat frank has certainly helped. Hopefully be a good end to end bum off seats kinda game.

I’m winding my kidney punches up now been as we’ve got a reputation to uphold.
 
Just like all football fans I guess, they have short memories and tinted glasses.

They hate us because of SISU - we supported them before the match and then started to cheat by throwing tennis balls when we attacked, we changed our mind and laughed at them.

Dirty club chat - they forget the scum bag striker they had and some of their own players antics.

Feeder club - We wouldn't have bothered until they started giving it large online saying Hamer went to a "smaller club" THEN we got vocal after getting O'Hare.
 
A good bit of mutual dislike and something on the game for both teams should make for a good atmosphere. I'm all for that .
 
You can call Unitedites many things, but arrogant and thinking we are massive club isn’t one of them. Even when we are playing relatively well a lot of our fans think we are shit. Are they getting us confused with our neighbours?

Where is anybody trying to muster up a rivalry? It's this forum that has a thread dedicated specifically to the views of Coventry fans (and any other team you play). I'm surprised you're that bothered.

Sunderland hate Coventry far more than we hate them.

The very fact we have a thread about views from oppo fans is irrelevant as we do it for every game - before and after kick off. Having seen hundreds of these view from blogs over the years, I can confirm, aside from the Pigs in s6, Coventry fans are by far the ones who seem obsessed with creating some sort of a hate for us. However, looking across socials, it seems like you have a weird obsession with quite a few clubs so maybe it’s just something in the water where you are. Proper weird bunch.

That isn't to froth up a fake rivalry. It's interesting to see other fans view before and after the game.

The irony is, our pitch invasion led to Sheffield United winning that game. We started playing well and the game was suspended.
 
Wow.

I think I have been suffering with PTSD from last years play off final up until now, I have rarely posted at all, & Roy, even though I have read & enjoyed all your "View From's" I haven't posted my thanks to you for them.

BUT. Fucking hell, what a fan base of whoppers they are, they are so stupid they have galvanised me back to the present, so a big big thank you Roy.

If I woke up each morning and looked out my window to see Coventry, I’d be a mardy little twat too.
 
Not being funny, but those comments are making a few of you guys bite. Just ignore them. Its football. They most likely hate every team!
 
I've watched a few Cov games this season and they are extremely physical and probably the fastest, fittest and most successful at pressing / closing down in the whole division.

They also utilise all of the dark arts of pulling, pushing, shirt grabbing, diving, conning the ref etc.

Tbf they also have some quality as well and are one of best at chance creation.

We will need an Ipswichesque performance to best them.
 



I've never met a single Blade who has anything against Coventry City whatsoever. Every season I read their View From, and end up baffled at why they hate us so much. Proper peculiar fan base.
