Got to give some credit to Bury supporters. No one can ever accuse them of being glory seekers.

I was also at that match at Bury in the old 4th division (27th April, 1982). When Edwards equalised, I thought the Blades were going to destroy that old wooden stand!
Ah yes, classy goal from Tonne I recall. I thought we'd found a real player there...

I remember us losing at Bury in the League cup in Bassett's last days at the club. The radio summariser (was it Edwards back then?) said it was as bad a performance as he'd ever seen. It's amazing how often I've heard that said. :)

Lost 4-2 that day. I was there, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I even had to walk back to Chapeltown from Sheffield Station at midnight, and i was only 17.

It was also the same day that OJ Simpson got cleared of murder.

Yeah, I watched it in a pub in Nottingham with a mate, who described it as 'the worst 3-3 draw he'd ever seen' - which was a pretty fair description. There was no quality from either side, and the goals game about largely as a result of defensive errors or (in the case of D'Jaffo's goal) poor refereeing. My clearest memory was of D'Jaffo's bemused shrug when the goal was given - "how the hell did I get away with that?!"
Wasn't this the game when Warnock (as Bury manager) did his post match media work in a Sheffield United tie?

Bury fans hated him and that always ranckled, he'd taken over from Stan Ternant I think

I remember that - everyone was jumping up and down, and the chant went up "Bury's ground is falling down, falling down, falling down....."!

ERIK TONNE!!! I REMEMBER HIM
Wonder what he's up to now?

EDIT:
To answer my own question, he's playing in the Norweigan top divison for Bodo/Glimt, a side who's fans famously take big yellow toothbrushes to away games... erm okay.
Seems to have done pretty well for himself. As does Ayhmen Tahar who also left us at a tender age, was playing european football this summer.

It's a shame neither of them made it as they showed a lot of glimpses with us.

Tahar rings a bell. I remember losing 2-1 away to hull in the cup a good few years back. Sharp scored for us (I think) and a Naughton O.G was given even though it never crossed the line. Incidentally, I think that was the last time Hull showed instant replays on the big screen as it riled all our fans up.

Anyway, I seem to remember a young kid being thrown on for nothing more than the last 1/2 minutes. Was that Tahar? If so, it's my only memory of him. Don't think he touched the ball.

Interesting that we are now getting more fans now at home games, then we did in our first season in League One.

Yeah that was him, he "officially" went to my 6th form though he never seemed to be there cos he was always off with United.

Only time I played against him was in the 5 a side league the school ran. He didn't seem that good, although the other 4 of my mates on the team were all pigs hellbent on kicking him to death so he was probably wise to keep himself out of the way..

I bet we get a bigger crowd today, not bad going after four years in this league. If we are in this league in four years time, no doubt we will be getting 30,000 a week!
