My point is that we are a bigger club than some of your lot realise but not as big a club as some of our lot think.
I, personally dont get this "biggest" thing as I have said some clubs are obviously bigger than others, however it seems to have rubbed you up a bit, of course we ae are :" bigger " than Bolton, I, like you see that, however some of yourfans are tryingto suggest otherwise, are you coming to the gamw tomorrow? If so I hope you have a good day out in my city, I think Sheffield people are the best in the world, good luck to for the future

Well said.....and I agree Bolton ARE a decent sized club.

In many league tables both Bolton and Blackburn tend to feature high in the list as significant historical clubs.

Boxerblade, it's obvious some Blades have given him the impression we think they are a bit tin pot but they do have a proud history, better than most clubs.

The only thing that irritates me is the assumption on other threads, that Bolton are on a par with clubs like Bury and Wigan, or even PNE. It just suggests a complete lack of knowledge of the respective size of those clubs.

Incidentally, at the first game i ever attended at Burnden Park, there were 43,000 on for a Second Division game ...and it wasn't even the biggest home gate that season.

I can only assume the Bury, Wigan, PNE comparison were wind ups.
It's not that important really.

Enjoy the game tommorrow. We are playing well but missing loads of chances.
Hopefully tomorrow we'll be ruthless and score a few.

There isn't much point comparing attendances without also comparing catchment areas and the number of clubs within them. If you had Man Utd and Man City on your doorstep, your attendances would suffer without a doubt.
FWIW When I lived in Sheffield . I could reach Manc U in under 50 minutes . Did I ever . Not while there are real dogs on the street mate . Sheffield United for ever. The rest . Up yer nose with a rubber hose

We're sounding like the pigs on this thread. I would say we are bigger than Bolton by a little bit but who cares? We're still in this division and as we know now in football, history and attendances count for nothing.

In summary

Bolton will not be a pushover
Their fans of illusions of grandeur and massiveness
Madine is a total cock

COYRAWW

The comment about deserving to be in the premier league because of there size made me laugh.debate about exactly how big they are aside (and the fact that doesn't earn you promotion) , they clearly aren't in the top 20 size wise, even we would be the bottom end of that.

Why PNE? I'd say they're about the same size as Bolton.

Based on success
Bolton 73 seasons in top flight, 7 FA cup finals winning 4, league cup finalist 2 losing both
PNE 46 seasons in top flight, 7 FA cup finals winning 2, never been in league cup final

Based on historical attendances
27th position Bolton 17,201
36th position PNE 13,409

Fair enough but it's how I percieve them both. Also weren't Preston founder member of the football league and the 'Invincible's' the first double winners. In some ways they have a richer history. Attendance wise Bolton have had a sustained recent period in the top flight to boost theirs which Preston haven't and yet their first season down here they're only mustering 14000 or so in a promotion challenging season.

Excuses! Excuses!

Sheffield Wednesday might well think that but there's no comparison.

Leeds is only about 10 miles closer to Sheffield than it is to Bolton.

Man Utd are a huge club. It's not just about the 75,000 that turn up for every game, they also have an army of armchair supporters who have never set foot in Old Trafford. Many of them live in places like Bolton unfortunately.
Excuses! Excuses!

I keep reading about there strength at set pieces, fair enough but we are a different proposition from last season, God we were awful, every time a team got a free kick or corner you felt they would score but we are much, much better now and with the addition of Hanson we should be be ok but I agree dane them losing spearing, clough and ameobi is good for us not just tomorrow but there chances against everybody else.

Agreed. Be interesting to see if Wilder brings the beat back to combat their size. Thing is, who to drop if we do? I’d be half tempted to drop Coutts for this one and push Basham into midfield. That might be heresy for some but I can see it being a very physical game and having more combative personnel might help us. On the flip side, Coutts is integral to us dominating the ball the way we did against Scunny. Tough call but I’m satisfied we have the right man to make these kind of calls.

It’s all very subjective and ultimately, entirely unimportant. What matters is what happens on the pitch.

Although I did find that comment from the Wanderers fan suggesting you have fans that turn up no matter what “unlike Sheffield” very strange when talking about by far the best supported club in the division despite being at it’s lowest ebb over the last 6 years.

As I say though, it’s all about what happens on the pitch. This game is huge for both sides.

What on earth are you talking about? It's unfair to compare attendances because we've been more successful?

In what way do PNE have a 'richer history'? Bolton are also one of the founder members of the Football League. We were also the first club to win the F.A. Cup at Wembley. The first club in the world to score a goal in league football: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ry-Kenny-Davenport-birth-Football-League.html

Our average attendances in League 1 are higher than PNE's attendances and they're in the top half of the Championship!

Just calling it as I see it. I'd bet a lot see you and PNE as similar sized clubs, which isn't very big. As for comparisons with us you could probably ask fans of every club in this division who is the bigger club and the answer would be the same..United.

As for nonsensical arguments go yours takes the biscuit. "We'd be bigger and get bigger attendances if it weren't for the two Manchester clubs"

WTF???? United would be the biggest club in the country if there were no other clubs in Yorkshire. But there are, we are what we are, the biggest club in this league and potentially one of the biggest in the league above.

...and you are what you are, a bigger than average club in this league but wouldn't make the top ten in the league above.

43k in Burden Park? You did well to get out alive.

Wouldn't that suggest you're both poorly supported clubs considering how hard you're trying to justify the opposite?

Considering how long we've been in Division 1, we still have a larger support base than you can muster. Give it a rest pal, you're outgunned and out supported, and always will be. UTB

Do you think you'll break 10,000 if you're down here for 6 years?

Well that should shut the cunts up. Hope they start next season in League 1 and their 8k crowds.

did you enjoy your day out today ?

Blackburn are one of the founder members of the football league. Hardly a 'nothing' club.

Not sure why you respect Bury more.

Burnley has a similar catchment area as Blackburn.

Burnley have far more passionate fans and have the highest percentage of fans going from the population of the town. Blackburn fans are generally quiet, (watched us play them many times, home and away) and don't come in big numbers even to their own ground.

If I lived in a sad little Lancashire mill town with fuckwits for supporters, I'd choose Man. Utd. and City every day of the week.
