As always, if you watch the SUFC ones on the club website, you'll need to log in. I'll upload Hecky's Preston presser vid and SUFC YouTube clips as and when the clubs post them, but if you find something before me, please add it to the thread.

I'm told Wilder is live on Friday at 0900. Link below will work once announced by the club 👇 I will do some notes once I've seen it

I will likely also do some notes from Hecky's presser.

Any early predictions on the "listen" count? I'm going for 4. What do you reckon, Paul?
Hecky Yeah.webp

I'm going for 11 'listens'

Listen, Preston North End are an incredible incredible football club. No club is more championshippy than them. They make being in the championship season after season look easy and I'm in awe of that. But I'm even more in awe of Hecky. Top top manager and easily the best in the league - that's just how it is - so if we can fluke a result against him that would be unbelievable

I'll go for 3 looks and 5 listens.

I like this sort of thing. Towards the end of last season I counted how many times VS touched the ball and how many times he pointed during the first half of a game (Burnley?). Somewhere in the region of 12 touches and 50 points.

🎵Vini Souza, he’s got more points than you🎵

I've just read that in Trumpesk way.
Did you want us too, or is it because I've just been looking at at thread about him. 😳🤔

Hecky's presser is tomorrow, but this has just dropped on the Preston YouTube channel, for those who fancy listening to Stuart McCall chatting (not a game preview)

First 13 mins is on their YT channel, but the full 1hr audio only version is on spotify

"right the way through"
This is the one! It sticks out to me way more than "listen" because it's a phrase I've never heard anyone else say in my life.

He must say it at least 10 times per presser and it usually only makes sense once or twice.

"Morning Chris, any new injury problems or just Player X still missing?"

"Listen, right the way through we'll give Player X as much time as we can to make the squad this weekend." ...said player makes the bench three weeks later.

Classic.

Injuries & Absences
  • "RND got injured in the U21s. That's not looking too good at the moment. He's had a scan and we've taken him down to a specialist. He won't be available for at least the next 3 games. It was an innocuous block tackle and he's tweaked something in his groin area"
  • "Alfie Gilchrist's injury is his ankle. He's progressing nicely and will be back with the club on Monday. Whether he's ready for before the international break, I'm not sure, but hopefully the Coventry game"
  • They talked a bit about injuries, how to avoid them, their inevitability, but nothing specific. "It's about getting the balance right between under training and over training", mentioning the good people we have including "Doctor Brian English". "We're pretty happy with the availability we've had. We got stretched a little bit in the middle of the season because we were light from the summer [transfer window]"
  • Harry Clarke (foot) and Tom Davies (calf) won't be available until the Coventry game
  • Femi Seriki "is playing catch-up with his minutes" and won't start tomorrow. "We are being careful with Tom Cannon and Gus, too", in terms of getting their fitness up sensibly
  • Giving players minutes, and taking risks with physical health "is a challenge for all managers. You want to peak [at this time of the season], but [the whole season] is a slog. Sometimes you risk, because it's a risk worth taking, but we have to be really smart [at this key part of the season] in our approach."
  • James Shield asked about whether football is going to go down the path to limit players' games at some point, limiting the season, perhaps, due to so many injuries across the game, but Wilder laughed it off, pointing at the World Club Cup "in the middle of the summer", and some "English teams getting £100 million. If you're a player of that football club, you're going". However, he did talk about the detail clubs now go into with sport science and medical departments, to manage the physicality of players, manging minutes, pre-game, post-game training, etc, but he seemed under no illusions that the game itself (those managing the business that is the game and the clubs) is looking at more, not less

Looking ahead to Preston and the return of Hecky
  • Hecky's done "a great job. No surprise at all".
  • Talking about Hecky being at Sheff Utd, with Wilder bringing him in to the academy, "There was a succession plan in there" for if Wilder left, "and he took over but [after relegation] the club wet down a different road. Maybe if [Hecky] had the group at the start of the [21/22] season, [we'd have gone straight back up]"
  • "We'll have to deal with a very competitive Preston North End and a manager who is very good and has won things, and will want a result"
  • "We'll have to do a lot right on Saturday to get the points"
  • On the 3-game week, "There'll be a lot of talking about minutes and rotation", then "making sure we do the international break right, ready for the last 8 games"
  • He talked about how strong our bench is now, and how important it is that they make an impact coming off the bench, to get us the win

General
  • Reflecting on Anel's 100th game for the Blades on Saturday at QPR, "we've had some tough patches, but he's got his head on and he's been good all season. He's got a good attitude, he's a popular boy. There's been interest in him [over his time here] and I'm OK with that. We'll be looking to lean on him [for the run in]." On his contract, he played it straight, talking about wanting "to keep our best players" and contract talks are "definitely on the agenda."
  • "Jack Robinson triggers a an extension to his contract after 25 games". I've had a quick look. He's played in 24.
  • No update on Rhian Brewster's contract
  • On the death of ex-chairman Reg Brealey, he said he didn't know him that much as a person but talked about the things did, in particular bringing DB in as coach, and what a great decision that was
  • On Geoff Taylor, echoing "all the things the boys have said [on social media]. He got everything out of his life, 95% built around football. Sadly missed but fondly remembered at Sheffield United"

Interviewers: Andy Giddings, Danny Hall, James Shield, another (I guess) Junior reporter

I like the look at that line up .As you say Seriki gives us lots of options regarding going forward ,which we need to be ,no back foot football please .

just read Seriki will not be starting . thats a blow who will be at right back?

oh no .looked dodgy last match and lucky not to be sent off
The booking Choudhury got was an absolute joke, probably just about balanced out by the booking he didn't get in the second half. Expect to see him do the first hour and then Seriki come in to stretch the game.
