Head Coach Rubén Sellés and forward Joe Gelhardt spoke to members of the press ahead of the fixture at Bramall Lane. Here is what they had to say:
Rubén Sellés:
“Yesterday we checked the game, checking what we need to do for the next opponent, checking what we have been working on during the two months together. It’s a game we wanted to win but didn’t. We reflected on it, and we know the things that we needed to do better, it was just about the application in those moments and continue in the way we want to work.”
- Sellés reflecting on the loss to QPR.
“I am going to go there and try and get the three points - this is what I always do no matter who is in front of us. I think Sheffield United has a great manager and the team is solid and that’s why they’re in the top two. He have some good players and have a good tempos in the game. But we are competitive, and we will go there and try to make our game and try to be our very best which will give us chances to win the game.”
- Sellés on Sheffield United.
“The away following has been really good and away at Millwall there was a big support. It’s important that the fans are with the team with games that are close to us. We will be together and there will be difficult moments of course in the game, but those are the moments we need them and feel their support.”
– Sellés on the travelling support.
Joe Gelhardt:
"It's good to get off the mark for this club. Hopefully I can score against Sheffield United. Obviously the result wasn't what we wanted, but the good thing about the Championship is you can put it to bed and get onto the next one."
- Gelhardt on scoring his first City goal vs QPR.
“It doesn’t get much better in terms of the teams you will play in this league. I am excited and looking forward to it. It should be a feisty game and I think as a player, those are the type of games that you thrive on and you want to be involved in.”
- Gelhardt ahead of the game vs Sheffield United.
“He is a top guy. Very good manager and he goes into detail about a lot of things which is good. Seeing how Hull play suited me perfectly and him being a top guy just made it even easier when I was speaking with him and it was a no-brainer (for me to join).”
- Gelhardt on City Head Coach Rubén Selles.
Team News:
Head Coach Rubén Sellés confirmed that goalkeeper Thimothée Lo-Tutala will be named on the bench against Sheffield United.
With Carl Rushworth returning to parent club Brighton & Hove Albion, Sellés backed Ivor Pandur ahead of the game and said Lo-Tutala will be the number two for the game at Bramall Lane.
"Tim will be on the bench. He has been working with us really hard and is a goalkeeper that is growing with the team," said Sellés.
"He will push together with Harvey (Cartwright) and Archie (Howard), who has come from the Under-18s and is supporting us in the games. I think we are covered in the goalkeeper department to support Ivor."
Confirming that captain Lewie Coyle will miss the Yorkshire derby against the Blades, the Head Coach provided further updates on his squad ahead of the fixture, including new signing Lincoln.
"Lewie is getting better, but he is not going to make the game. Abu Kamara is fully fit and will be able to play if we decide to play him. Those are the two main bits of news from us and there are no new injuries," explained Sellés.
“Kasey (Palmer) is doing well. The players in rehab like him and Charlie Hughes; the process is going according to plan. They are on time and the comments (from the medical team) are the boys are doing everything they can and are where they should be. We need to be patient with them and let them come back on the time they should do.
“Doğukan (Sinik) had a bit of rehabilitation on the grass. He is still not training with the team so not much more to comment on him. (Mohamed) Belloumi is still away doing his rehab in the Middle East and Liam (Millar) is with us," added Sellés.
"Lincoln is a versatile player that can find the spaces and deliver situations, but in reality, his last game was in December so we need to be careful with those things. He’s been training individually (before joining us), but he’s not fit.
"It was like Matt Crooks for example. It is about the balance between the hundred percent performance of the team, for the team, and in the team and the risk of injuries."
