Blades, a new one on me for pre match entertainment at a football ground, but apparently before every home game Colchester have a band play. Today it is 'The Puppet Kings', personally never heard of em and being described as The Foo Fighters meet Megadeth, I doubt that I will particularly want to.

No idea where they perform or how it works but thought I'd post it up in case some Blades like that kind of noise.

Rumours of Chris Porter performing 'I did it my way', are as false as those of Stefan Scougall singing 'Grandma' as part of the St Winnifreds school choir tribute band. JCR has been practicing the John Barnes Italia 90 rap, but keeps either forgetting or repeating, duplicating or going off at tangents the part about 'beat your man and get round the back'...

Me, I shall take in the delights of the pub owned by a Bladesman that's in the Good Beer guide and not far from the station... Essex cider pub of the year too for the Bladettes..

Three points today lads.

Good pub and friendly welcome... Sadly won't be partaking this time as we're on a coach and stopping in Braintree.

Sounds good pal, what's the name of the pub?

The Victoria on North Road heading in the town direction away from the ground.

Mine's a pint.

On the bar (and increasingly inside me) is the excellent Yorkshire Blonde from the Colchester brewery, a barman has a retro Mohican (actually might not be too retro round these parts) and there is a tempting but curiously named Brazilian Vanilla and hopped porter.

Cider includes Abrahal's Slack Alice, something made in a rioja cask and 7 others that may explain the complexion of some of the regulars...

Sun is shining and the three points are ours.
