Praise for Billy

So often you hear fans of different clubs saying they desperately need a proven goalscorer or "some who puts the ball in the back of the net".

That's Billy Sharp.

He's a guaranteed 15+ a season at this level and we're very lucky to have him. Players with his strike rate are few and far between.

Sharp's so far and away the best footballer at this club. Quality and "endeavour" personified. So intelligent in a footballing sense too - always a step ahead of his marker - great to watch and he reminds me of a Bassett-style player........I might be great, I might be shite, but I'll give you everything I've got.

I have no doubt he will be that missing cog in the midfield we have been crying out for.

Ironically, Coutts' ability to cross a ball from near the byline is miles ahead of anyone else in the squad. Unfortunately, he only manages to get into that position after about a hundred dinky passes and two pauses for breath.

It'd be a welcome comparison actually, between where we would be had we done that and followed it up with signings by a competent manager and where we are now. Taking in to account the overall picture, I'd hazard a guess we would be better off by the league table and possibly even financially and that's when you include the fines.

What a ludicrous assumption to make. One that only someone with little financial and football knowledge would make.

P.s. When are you going to admit you was wrong about the signing of Billy?

Billy gave 100% today as always and a great goal.

But what puzzled me was that Coutts tried - even in the second half, even in the last 10 minutes.

Can anyone explain this phenomena?

That be the one where he left Sweinsteiger for dead at OT?

I cannot believe on a day we win we find new ways to argue about who thinks what and said what.

I have never slagged him off as a player, I have just made the point that most of the teams promoted from this division don't seem to spend 500k on a player to get them goals.

Great assist today from basham. Can't quite believe I've written that TBH, but it excellent

Chris Basham ran a very close second to Billy for MoM. I thought he had an oustanding game and the wing back role suited him to a tee today.

One of only two permanent signings and one of those is a absolute belter.
I'd take a 50 percent great signing record going forward into the close season.
Keep it up.

BTW Who signed him?

Keep him out there then cause he's bang average CM/CH...could be the new 'Greg Halford' ;)

Who knew this is his best position.

Looks limited most of the time but that's his best game I've seen in a Blades shirt.

Someone mentioned billy "should" already have 25 goals this season, what utter bollox, yes he's missed a few but if the rest of the team had showed half the commitment to SUFC and played as consistently well as Mr sharp, then I have no doubt his goal tally would be up above 30 for the season, but with the inconsistency and lack of commitment from almost all the other players, I'd say he's done bloody amazing to get as many as he has.

I think he's been brilliant.
Don't forget he's not had a settled partner all season, yes he does need 2-3 chances before he puts one away but if he played up top with someone whod get 14-15 goals too then his misses wouldn't be half as costly or as highlighted.
Plus let's be fair sometimes we don't create 2-3 chances per game let alone just for Billy.
If Sammon was half the player we needed and expected him to be then Sharp would be in the twenties and we'd be safely in the top 6.

Rewind back to early December and there were plenty on here saying he was a bad signing that needed dropping. He came through a tough misfiring spell as someone with quality at this level should, and for me he's been head and shoulders above the rest of the squad this season.
