Basic formula for success in Division 3.
And we ain't got much now, nor had at any time during our stay in this fxxxing division.
Why, oh why can't £100k+ managers understand this. Wilson, Weir, Clough and now Atkins. Current Clough squad is full of powder-puffs - meek & mild types. Baxter, Murphy, Flynn, Reed, Scougall, Done, McNulty, De Girolamo. Apart from JCR and Brayford bombing down the wing, there is little pace, no electric pace to frighten teams. McEveley frightens me when he is up against pace!
Where is the power? Only Basham & Adams have physicality and ability to get up and down, defend and attack. But Adams is too inexperienced to use his assets regularly. Sharp is physical but Higdon, Collins, McEveley are physical but lack the mobility to do anything with it. Sammon is big, unsure he has the guile and pace to use his presence. The rest of them are stereotypes - medium sized, medium pace, medium abilities - Harris, Coutts, Freeman, Cuvelier, McFadzean. Wallace (K). No idea about Wallace J - not seen enough to judge, but of the little I have seen of Woolford, looks slow and ponderous.
There is no significant size in the team especially in the defence. Kennedy, McEveley, Brayford, Alcock played as central defenders, all are less than 6ft - and in the case of Brayford & Alcock, probably less than 5ft!
This division is full of Gillinhams. Players with physical presence, pace, hunt in packs, determined to put one over big time charlies from Sheffield and giving 101% commitment. We have to match team's physicality and athleticism.
We have team of clones. Relatively small, medium paced lacking in physicality. Some of them might have good technical skills but these players shouldn't be the nucleus of the team - which they are currently. Until we build a team around players with power, strength and pace with a strong spine, chaps, we are going no - fxxxing where.
