If that detailed reason is based on nothing then it doesn't really stand for much.

I've seen nobody, bar the odd comment, say anything remotely negative about Sharp. You said that 'they' are very quick to slag him off. I've asked who 'they' are and you are unable to tell me. You made the point, I shouldn't have to go and prove/disprove it for you.

My opinion is that you're seeing what you want to see based on some strange notion that you're the only one who can see just how good Billy Sharp is for us.

And I shouldn't have to trawl through 14 months worth of posts to prove something to you. It's all there, and since you're far more interested than I am, go and have a look.

Would you like to state who your player of the season is, or do you want to draw this discussion out for the next 100 posts?

We should have categories for how good they are as well. We could have excellent, very good, good, average, poor, dogshite and Hammond.

For me none of the current team get less than good, and it's another vote here for Duffy.

True, I think people need to understand the type of player Sharp is.

He reminds me of Keith Edwards, he can be playing poorly, hardly touch the ball
But he’s a goal poacher, he’s always sniffing around the penalty box and he’s your best bet to pop up with a goal.

The other striker Clarke is more of a target man for the outlet ball, more physical and wins the knock downs.

They are both really good at what they do.
But their styles means that Clarke will see a lot of the ball, where as Sharp might have quiet spells where he looks ineffective.

Also Sharp has clever movement, so even when he doesn’t get the ball he’s working the defence and shifting them about making it easier for other players.

Coutts for me still up to now, despite the QPR aberration. Doubt he'd slipped below about an 8.5 out of 10 in any game before that. And back to his very best in that second half on Saturday.

So many contenders though. Really makes you feel like a bit of a Slutsky.

Was a hard one to be honest as we work so well as a team and there has been games where everyone has shone out but I have voted for Duffy as he has just pipped it at the top for me. When he is playing his best he is so hard to play against him and appears all over the pitch making it so hard for the opposition to pick him up and mark him. But the whole starting 11 are so strong at the minute so it will be interesting to see what people think at the end of the season.

I know it's not on this board, but just saw these on some Facebook pages. There's a few more, too.

The quickness to attack Sharp by some fans may be not quite at the conspiracy level that Tyler may feel at times, but it's not a myth either. It's bizarre.

Brilliant player but his lack of goals or assists holds him back from ever being POTY for a midfielder IMO.

Duffy easily.

There's definitely a case for dropping Sharp, but that's more a case of Brooks possibly deserving the spot more on current form than anything in particular against Billy. He isn't the clear star man that he was the division below. but he's not a liability either and should clearly be ahead of Donaldson in the pecking order right now

A third into the season I think we can see who are our absolute key men, as much of a team effort it is what we’re doing.

I’d be interested to see who, as it stands, people think our best player has been this season. Holy trinity? Leon? Brooks? JOC? And interested to how this changes throughout the season.

Pre Pigs game I think it would’ve definitely been Coutts but I suspect a certain number 9 might have something to say about that now.

I wish they could all get it if I’m honest, they deserve it.

So many to choose from. I'd probably say Duffy but Clarke has proved me wrong in a big way and I'm chuffed for him. so at this point, Clarke for me.

Sharp was good against Hull, worked very very hard for Clarke's third and but for a brilliant block by their left back would've got on the scoresheet himself.

No reason to drop him whatsoever.

For me, the whole squad has raised their game and so the 'Bar' has been raised to an incredible height.
So finding the POTY is not about criticising anyone but more about recognising those that have been even more outstanding in a very successful team?

We need some balance when discussing Billy. His problem, if you can call it that, is that Clarke is in great form and is clearly 1st choice as main striker at the moment. The poser is therefore who plays the supporting role. Playing in this spot when we had Beattie finished Billy off at the Lane so that is not an option. Brooks looked good in this position vs the pigs. What I envisage is that Clarke either gets suspended, injured or has a dip in form and Billy comes back in as the main man. It's then up to the pair of them to slug it out (not literally) to keep that place. Not a bad position to be in really and I'm sure CW sees it that way.

What a difficult decision to make.I'm going for Leon not only for his goals but his incredible workrate. He never stops closing down the opponents defenders.
But then there's Duffy,Coutts..........I could go on.

I'm with Tyler on that one and thought the thread was a silly attempt to write off Billy ("I like Billy, BUT").

I think the OP then explained he meant further into the future which is easier said then done. The cliche of 'taking one game at a time' is actually a trusim and no-one has any idea what division we will be in, in 2 years time, so planning Billy's retirement just seemed like a waste of time to me.

Billy obviously can't go on for ever but then his game has NEVER been about pace. He is quick mentally and is a better player at 31 than he was at 21. Whilst ever CW sees him in training and knows he is still up to it, then I can see him playing exactly like this for at least another 3 years.

On other threads people said he 'only had 3 touches' on Saturday, but he worked his defenders tirelessly. Facing the Kop I saw him dragging Dawson all over the place leaving space for Leon. The assist for the 3rd goal was sublime and he was unlucky that the kid who 'blocked' his shot didn't even have a clue what was happening.

His game is about work and doing the tedious stuff, tiring out defenders from the off. For this reason it is much more impoertant he starts and then be subbed, rather than coming on as an 'impact player, which he is not.

He is proabably not in our best 3 players this season, but importantly he is conistent and his contribution cannot be overlooked. As opposed to Hammond, Billy does actually do 'unseen work'. Sadly it is only unseen by those who want to have a pop at him.
It was me who said he only had 3 touches
It was a joke and you've taken it out of context I also said I thought he played well

Any of these players would have been POTY 2yrs ago
we are truly being spoil't this season
long may it continue
