Infringes their human rights apparently.

Can't detain em all just in case one or two are idiots.

The other side of the argument is that if you hold em back it gives our scrotes the time to get assembled and organised and they know exactly where to look/wait to cause mayhem, as anyone that has been to milwall/Wolves/West Brom to name but 3 will tell you.

To be honest the human rights issue doesn't bother me in the least. If it's the right thing to do then I would do it but nevertheless it's still a difficult circle to square.

I actually have sympathy with the police on this one.

Damned if they do, Damned if they don't dependant on subsequent events that are not entirely within their control.

If we go up this season and some of the notorious teams come to BDTBL next season I can see there will be carnage at the corner of Bramall Lane and John Street just as there was in the 70's, all a bit unnecessarily stupid really but that's human rights for you. Society's decision makers have lost the plot.

Sounds like you're a utopian perfectionist ;)

So would you hold em all back so that our scrotes can gather up their bricks and bottles to chuck at innocent visitors, or let em all straight out so that one or two of their scrotes can target innocent home fans?

Just remember that the police have limited resources and they can't be everywhere.

I'm not saying I have the answers!

However what I wouldn't be doing is continuing to place Draconian restrictions inside the ground whilst not having a consumerate level of policing outside the ground. They need to make their minds up, either the situation warrant Draconian measures or it doesn't.

I don't think it does personally, I'd let them out to mingle and deal with them or 2 excited when they start acting the arse.

Guess we all have different experiences but from the 60+ away grounds I've been to and when some of them hold back the away fans usually the home fans couldn't be bothered to wait 10 to 15 minutes and either go home or go to the nearest boozer.

I'm inclined to agree with this too but South Bucks would appear to appear to disagree.

I don't think that there is a right or wrong answer but the divergence of opinions highlights the problem that the authorities have.

At the end of the day tits will be tits and it's almost impossible to eliminate it.

One thing I've suggested time and time again is sniffer dogs on every turnstile as, while pissed up dickheads are bad enough, coked up dickheads are ten times worse.

Any hint of drug taking, the Police should nick 'em on suspected possession and take their time processing them. Release them well after the match has finished and leave them to find their own way home. Should soon put them off mixing class As and away matches.

Might save us having to put up with a few of our own wankers at away games too.

I definitely think that there's a growing epidemic of coke at away games. I've seen it everywhere this season on the coaches, in the bogs, in the stands for fucks sake. I was offered some at Grimsby by some scrote saying "Not an away day without a bit of sniff is it pal?" I wouldn't know mate.

Can't stand being around cokeheads.

To be fair to the cops ,they had to use Durhams finest as South Yorkshires were in Rotherham for the EDL march.

There's also quite a few fans of the more "herbal" hand made cigarettes these days. Industrial strength stuff too by the smell of it.

Aye but if it's owt like that stuff Dad of the Year is puffing on outside the pub with his kids playing round him, I'd be surprised if they could muster the enthusiasm to walk straight after... never mind go scrapping people.

I must admit, this has taken a bit of the gloss off a wonderful day yesterday.

I know its only one incident in a near 28k crowd, but the thought that someone was attacked so savagely just after the match like this is shocking. He could have lost his eyesight, or worse, just because he supported the Blades and was singled out by some cowards like this. I just keep thinking that it could have happened to anyone of us, our parents, kids, friends etc.

I just can't get into the head of someone who would want to do this because their team lost a football match. As much as I love the Blades, I wouldn't dream of inflicting any injury on anyone in their name, never mind attacking someone with broken glass. Very sad state of affairs.

Has this been confirmed?

Genuine question, set off early this morning for overseas work, was hoping it was (if anything) a minor skirmish with no injuries?

always been snorting and spliff smoking amongst our more hooligan inclined element but the sniff seems to have become more prevalent and readily available, the new Dutch courage maybe. Violence unfortunately is part of our great game and seems there have been quite a few incidents near the decathlon

At the risk of coming across as a right Cnut, I was amazed at the number of early teens in the family Enclosure who were standing up with arms out wide goading the away fans.

It's cringeworthy when grown men do it, but 12/13 year old kids?!?! Had to explain to my 5 year old there were pretending to be aeroplanes...

Right. I'll get back to my Sunday Telegraph!
As a family stand our own stewarding should stop that. That stand should be a safe haven from nob heads. I wouldn't sit near the away end on that stand for that reason as and when junior is old enough.

I used to sit on SS G block and there was a period where the goading from the family stand was as bad, if not worse than H block. I think there was a bit of a ticket ruse going on and adults going in as kids as well as people teaching their kids the finer arts of twattery.

Totally agree.

At the risk of sounding like Victorian Dad out of Viz, it staggers me parents would let their kids carry on like such a cock womble.

Agree wholeheartedly. Tend to be boring and in love with the sound of their own voices. Not a great combination. Plus the aggressive shit. Also leads to great bands making shit albums.

"Sentencing" some of the cokeheads to a massive spliff around 2pm every other Saturday might be more effective than banning orders**

Well put !

**alternatively: fine the fuck out of them, ban them from football for life with a suspended jail term hanging over them for contravention of ban, cut their balls off, and make them attend filming of Strictly Come Dancing AND The One Show.

Some people are just wankers mate.

Walking past cricketers & against Scunthorpe last week you could sense it was ready to go.

I think they should bring the spineless cunts back to the lane next home game, make them all wear Bolton shirts and drop them at the back of the KOP, let the Shoreham Street Elite punish them, wankers!

Admirable sentiments mate. This level of tribalism escapes me. I may, sometimes, feel antipathy towards an opposing team or player, but never to the level where I wish physical violence to become part of what it means to be a football supporter. I recall, years ago, seeing United supporters kick the shit out of a man City supporter, a brave bunch of 5 or 6 took it upon themselves to assert just how manly they were. It was cowardly and shaming, and if these sort of 'supporters' are ever on the end of a caution or custodial order I hope the club ban them for at least a decade.

Ive had a spliff before a game, didnt enjoy it, my mind was just wandering. Iv had sniff at football, same result. Dont like being pissed either cos i always need a piss so miss some of the game. Theres a time and a place for everything. I honestly enjoy games more when iam sober. weed is for home, coke is for nightclubs and maybe watching the boxing. And i rarely drink nowadays.

I once heard that one of the worst instances of Blades hooliganism involved their fans getting battered at Burnden.

I'm no advocator of football violence but it's quite funny to think of it all the same.
I was at that game. It was ridiculous, Blades fans in every part of the ground causing trouble and it seemed planned. The team lost 3-1 but the trouble started before the goals and carried on after the game. A miserable day out from start to finish until we found out Hull had lost as we arrived back in Sheffield. In the Porterfield promotion season. Hope those dark days are long gone

Now this is relevant. I simply don't buy this 'against their human rights' bollocks. Anybody who has spent a few years going to away games knows that you have no human rights. There's a catch-all law (Section summat-or-other) that the police can use against all possible offences - real or imagined. The slightest bit of intel would have told the police summat was going to occur on Saturday. Madine fanned the flames and the thick Bolton fans reacted with faux outrage when they couldn't have all of the Bramall Lane end (pathetic, really as they couldn't even fill the BLUT.)

This 'human rights' thing is a red herring. The police have the right to act accordingly if they think trouble will occur, and it seems eminently sensible to keep the away fans in until the home fans disperse. This wouldn't give the home fans the chance to arrange ambushes as the police could pile all their resources - manpower, meat wagons, helicopter etc. into providing a safe corridor back to the station. Nine times out of ten, I would have been at that bus stop opposite Decathlon where the bloke was attacked n Saturday and I can see exactly how it came about. Gangs of away fans pile through Blades of any age/sex/ability with no police in sight. What about their human rights? After the Scunthorpe game (where, post-match, the OB closed Bramall Lane to homed fans and directed them around the houses before re-routing them to...Cricketers Corner where it was all going off.), I departed via Shoreham Street and thank fuck I did.

Instead of treating away fans (of all persuasions) like delicate flowers, chances are they'll be pissed and drugged up. The concourse in the BLUT is regularly trashed as it's left to a handful of stewards. Sitwells mention of the EDL march is relevant as these marches have been banned in the past where the danger was deemed to great. I'm not suggesting that matches are called off, but to just let a few thousand away fans (probably still drunk and aggrieved by the result) pile into women, children and old people - that's either naive or a deliberate ploy to foment trouble and justify their presence.

And I don't suppose for a moment that some of the post-match violence was caused by pigs who'd got back from Leeds???

There are drugs and there are drugs. You shouldn't need to take drugs to watch a football match but alcohol is a drug and to many (me included) it wouldn't be the same without a few pints. Most people who have necked a few pints are fine but one or two act like dickheads.

If I were to do a line of coke before the game I probably wouldn't act like a dickhead, or at least not any more than usual. But some, younger fans can't handle their booze or their drugs.

Practically, having sniffer dogs sniffing everyone before they enter the ground would slow things up too much. Plus, there is nowt to stop coke heads doing a big line in the pub and finishing it off before heading to the ground, (in a similar way that boozers drink a couple of extra ones knowing they won't get a drink in the ground.)
