Possibly the worst i have ever seen us play.

King was by far the best player on the pitch tonight. He doesn't belong in League One to be honest.

Our goal was very well worked but overall we were still mediocre at best.

Lappin has been up at Shirecliffe all week by all accounts. Only the paperwork was sorted at dinner today.

The squad he is building is a damn sight better than what we had 12months ago

Let's not kid ourselves that this is enough. Agreed, there needs to be a reasonable amount of time to gel a team, but this is becoming eerily similar to the Robson era - plenty of good players on paper, but a manager unable to get them to play, whose main selling point is that they were taught by the current Man United boss.

6 of the 11 that started are new players this season. 1 of which arrived at dinnertime. The team needed rebuilding. Weir is rebuilding it. You don't move into a house if there's no roof do you. It takes time. The squad he is building is a damn sight better than what we had 12months ago.

The reason we are here is Ched Evans. The moment we failed to go up at the first attempt was the moment we fell into obscurity. McCabe (for all his knockers) gambled and didn't sell all the high earners when relegated in a hope to go up at first attempt. By failing to do that we had the entire backbone ripped out of the squad. Wilson getting us in play offs last season was a miracle and proved what a good manager he was but the fans wanted him out so here we are.. Moaning about the next one

He might be re-building a squad but first and foremost regardless of the so called "transition" that the club is in you can not deny that Weir walked into a club that already had a very good backbone within the squad and most importantly one of the best back fours on paper in the country but most importantly in this league. I have given open support for the areas that Weir identified as areas that needed strengthening from an early stage, now I realize that for Weir to have acted so promptly in strengthening these areas it must have been on the advice of someone else but never the less he's added a bit of quality but also some who at present have turned out to be a waste of space and players who are merely picking up a wage.

Maybe.................. What weir should have done is.

1. Build on a squad that like I said above had a solid backbone and one of the best back fours in the league and build around this improving the areas that needed improving in order to compete in this league.

2. Continued with a formation that has proven to be successful for us for the last two seasons, a system that our solid spine of the team are used to playing and one that has seen us in a play-off final and a play off semi final for the last two years rather than trying to implement a completely new system to a team that are all new to eachother therefore this puts the existing players out of their comfort zones never mind the new boys.

3. Continued with a style of play and formation that has not only been almost successful for us over the last couple of years but one that is renowned for achieving success in this league and seeing teams promoted?

Weir for me has taken the team backwards so far. He's stripped everything back to the bare bones and has changed everything, taken away everything that has worked for us previous and has made our usually reliable players uncomfortable and a mess!

The only thing I do believe is that Wilson shouldn't have been sacked. He did very well with what he had and your right he shouldn't have been sacked, it was harsh and wrong. But now sitting here with the potential of available cash to buy players do I think Wilson would have been the right man to spend it? Im not sure.

It's time to end the farce, get shut of Weir now. We're relegation fodder in a p1ss poor division, disgraceful. There's good players in that squad that are playing nowhere near their capabilities thanks to the master of de-motivation.

If we carry on with this fool there's only one way we're going and that's down.

We were much better in the second half. It's a good job Crawley's finishing was appalling as they could have been out of sight.

So many players look unfit, I don't know when we might put together a decent 90 minutes.

I'm getting more confident that we may avoid relegation. But forget top 6, we pretty much need championship form in the remaining games to get 75 points.

As someone who doesn't go much, its odd to watch.

It looks like 11 blokes who've never met before.

Nothing to do with 'tippy tappy', passion or up n'atem.

They just don't look like they want to win. They don't look like they want to be footballers.
I can recall the 1980 81 team, and that was bad, relegation to div 4. But only entered bottom 4 on t last day, all of a sudden.....bad but not as poor as these lads..they look like a bunch of disinterested losers...oh wait a minute.....

David Weir's thoughts:

Excellent post.

Completely agree that the squad we have now is better than last seasons, agree that it's Ched Evans fault we are where we are and agree that Wilson was a great manager.

People saying it's Weir's fault for making so many changes: the old squad was unsustainable and was only going to get worse, now I feel like if we don't go up it doesn't matter because we are setting up the club well for the future whereas before it was a disaster. You do have to go backwards to go forwards, it's not as easy as coming in, buying better players and flying straight up. Patience.

People round us were slagging King but I pointed out that we were trying to play him in the same vein that we were playing Porter - slag the latter all you like but he, nor King, nor anyone else we could afford would be likely to win a ball aimed at his throat 30 yards from goal with no one in the same half and make a goal scoring opportunity from it.

I thought King was one of the seldom high points. He seemed like one of the few who could translate what he'd been told into something decentdecent.

That's why we shouldn't sack him! It takes a very long time for a side to gel and there were moments today where you could see with time certain things may go better.

Sorry but if you can accept that performance then you will accept anything. At no point in that game did I see signs of possible improvement going forward. The one moment of quality came from two players, one being our only creative influence and the other being an experienced striker with good awareness. At most you could argue we have some decent players that will provide occasional moments of quality through sheer individual talent. As a team we look fucking hopeless.

Just seen their goal again confirming how terrible it was from our point of view.

No one anywhere near him. Was it McMahon's man ?

Not entirely sure and not seen the replay yet... I was still moaning about the lax approach to defending the man at the front post as I noticed the man free at the back.

What was disappointing was that we didn't seem to learn from it. There were a few occasions after their goal when both fullbacks went on a walkabout leaving attackers in acres of space out wide.

Yes that was poor as well. Baxter (I think) on his heels.

Yet again we concede first in a game and have to chase it.

Desperately poor goal to concede

Indeed and whilst we weren't particularly running things before it, heads dropped even further and people decided to go into hiding.

Maybe you should stick to your Photoshops of the next kit, son.

That in my book is inexcusable. A player may not be skilful , that doesn't prevent him putting in a good shift.
I hope Weir has noted who the bottlers are, and,, replaces them with better, who are able to adapt to the system, or who at the very least don't hide. One by One David, the lazy and incompetent must go. Your plan is fine, make it work fella. Some of the new guys may make it. If they don't come up to expectations, I hope that you are not too proud to kick them out.

What people need to remember is that these players were playing for their managers job last night. Apart from 20 minutes in the 2nd half it's hard to think that many of them want him to stay.

That first half is the worst I can remember.

Didn't Charlton get promoted after overseeing an enormous amount of close season changes?

The best positive from this game is that after going one down, we fought back, instead of giving up as in recent games. which may help a turnaround in confidence.
