Ryan shotton not in the Brum squad tonight... Looks like he may be Boro bound. But he'd have been an ideal addition to our back line

Wonder if it might mean any of the boro CB's become surplus to requirements. They'd still have Ayala, Gibson and Fry.

Could do worse than asking for Fry on loan for a season imo.

We've missed another???

This has to stop. No other club can be permitted to sign any player whatsoever.

I do hope Every Fucker is still available...

Signing for Norwich City
I rate Raggett and think he's a good prospect but it's a big step up. I wonder if they'll end up loaning him out to a L1 club? I can't see him going into the first team.

I wonder who?

Liked what he was saying.

He doesn't usually say he's hopeful of getting 1 or 2 in unless he is fairly confident. So hopefully that means there is genuine movement on some of our longer term targets or possibly since its moved on quickly and the prem squads are shaping up - some loans

He's spot on in terms of we the fact we aren't miles away and a couple of ambitious additions could transform our season.

Few more names, some rumoured, some I think could be possible and some I'd like to see.

Midfielders
: Jackson Irvine, Max Power, Ryan Leonard, Alex Gilbey, Jamie Allen, Joe Ledley, Sam Field

Attacking Midfielders / Wingers
: Joe Lolley, Jonathan Leko, Marcus Maddison, Sullay Kaikai, Callum Harriott, Ben Marshall, Sone Aluko, Jamie Murphy, Marvin Emnes, Jeremie Boga

Strikers: Jerome Sinclair, Apostolos Vellios, Sam Baldock, Colin Quaner, Will Grigg, Lys Mousset, Chuba Akpom, James Wilson, Julien Ngoy

Max Power would be my preferred alternative to Irvine and Leonard. Wigan looking to sell him. Might be better to get someone like Field on loan though to leave the door open for Whiteman long term.

Lolley seems like a good fit for us but I'd love to see Murphy or Aluko here if at all possible. Aluko might seem far fetched but they've signed a few players in his position now. Maddison's one to go for if Brooks is sold, maybe even if not.

I think Vellios is a stand out option if we want a better quality target man. He's available from Forest. But if Quaner's available I'd prefer him, he plays out wide too. Good athlete. Maybe one for January.

Seems like we're getting Sinclair but there are some other decent loan options there if not. Wilson might be the most likely.

Unless we spunk some real money, only Billy's partner can really be improved upon from a team perspective. I doubt Sinclair has been nailed down as a starter and we are working on someone else. With that in mind I would be looking at that position and someone who can get us the ball back in midfield but fits in to how we pass the ball.

CM Hogg - Huddersfield
CM Mutch - Crystal Palace (not sure if he's injured but not featuring)
Striker - Wickham at Palace (yes I know but not featuring)

Shoot at me now

Exactly - unless it's a gamble that works out. We don't have the money to upgrade on the majority of our side. It's a positive in a way but also a sign we need to start playing in the big leagues if we wanna compete at the top end of the table

Attacking Midfielders / Wingers:Jonathan Leko

Seen today Pulis has said he will be going out on loan in the next few days that plus rumours we've looked at him this summer as a potential signing. Could he be coming in along with Sinclair before the deadline? I think he is more of a winger than central striker so it could be possible.

Was wondering where Wickham had dissappeared to.

Just to show everyone that buying anyone this summer is getting harder and harder....

Middlesbrough are to set to complete the signing of Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson, according to the Northern Echo.

The deal will see Boro pay £2.5m with a further £500,000 depending on appearances.

Good player, he's another like Irvine who we could've had from the SPL for very little last summer.

But that's a big fee for him. Boro don't give a fuck though, the more they cost the better as far as they're concerned. They've signed loads of good players but I think they might have pushed it a bit too far. There's been an influx of expensive players, no doubt with the egos to match, and a lot of those players won't be in the team. It could do them more harm than good. Add to that the pressure on them to get promotion, and it'll be an awkward atmosphere in that squad.

My shopping list:-

Conor McAleny (Everton)
Danny Ward (Rotherham)
Ricky Holmes (Charlton)
Josh Scowen (Barnsley)
Declan John (Cardiff)
Angus McDonald (Barnsley)
Lee Camp (Rotherham)

Declan John has gone on loan to Rangers. Not that we needed another left back since we signed Stevens.

R.I.P 'Possible summer targets' thread.

12-3-2017 - 1/9/2017

The thread would like to place on record its thanks to its contributors and wish them all the best for the future.

The 'Possible targets' franchise WILL make a return.....

Didn't want to start a new thread so ill chuck this in here until 'possible January targets' is created.

Not sure if realistic but Patrick bamford could be a great target for us. Proven talent at this level and we know what wilder can do with players. He seems to tick all the boxes of what were missing up front. His pace was scary against us. A good age (24) , I think this is important given the age of our current strike force.

On the bench for boro alot, so given there average start they might be happy to trim the squad a bit to reinvest. A quick google tells me they only paid 5.5 million for the lad so I imagine the fee wouldn't be too disimilar. Which in today's market wouldn't be bad. Obviously alot of money still but if were serious about pushing on in January we could do worse.

Good shout. He's a good player but clearly needs to find the right club, and manager. I'd love to see what Wilder could make out of him - even if we got promoted. He's got more than enough ability to do it at PL level.

I don't think Boro would consider selling to us this season though. We could easily be direct rivals at some point.

He'd be hugely expensive in terms of wages. Not sure what % they agreed to pay as part of the deal but he was on £45k/week when Burnley signed him on loan from Chelsea and can't imagine he's dropped too much from that amount (if at all).

And this is the risk to our ability to keep competing at this heady level! Top quality young players on what is the normal level of wages will not fit into our transfer budget and wage structure, McCabe and HRH don't have that level of funding and sir coach Chris would see it as disrupting a settled squad.

Funny though, if the club sell Brooke's they will want top banana for him and will make the excuse they quadrupled his wages and we can't compete. This is the only issue I have with our current position, how do we make the next step?

One of the click bait sites is suggesting we sign Jamie Murphy in January, and I agree. He's not getting a look in at Brighton, he's proven quality at this level, obviously knows the club, and would offer another very good option and provide ammunition for our strikers. Can't see him costing more than £3m . Anyone agree ?

Problem there is our system doesn’t support wingers - and whilst our system is working, i can’t see it changing.

But he would give us a quality option should we need to change our system. I also think he's more than capable of playing as a second striker, he will have developed further since leaving us. He should be available and if we could get him it would be very tempting.

I agree it would be very tempting to sign him if he was available but who do you see him replacing.

How often, in the last two seasons, have we needed to change our system?

Although on his day he could be brilliant, I always felt Murphy was too inconsistent and thought his transfer was good business for Utd.
Clearly no longer good enough to command a starting place at Brighton, I think, quite rightly, we’ll be looking elsewhere.

He was quite clearly our best players at the time and in a better team he might prove to be even better.

He didn’t start every game for Brighton when they were in this division either.

Only during games occasionally, but at the business end of a Championship season I'd like to have the option. Brooks and Murphy flanking a centre forward could be brilliant, especially away from home.

It is hard to see who he'd replace. But you could say the same about any new signing replacing the current players. Maybe he could sometimes come in for one of the strikers in the current system.
