Don't know if he's been suggested yet but ledson off oxford might be good. Piss them off to boot.

Would Jason Shackell be worth punt, not at his peak. But not playing for Derby?

sort of hoping Forrest go down, so we could maybe poach assombolonga and zach clough. Not sure whether wages would be do able

I'll tell you what, I would be looking to nick that Marshall lad off Bradford ASAP, think he might be coming to the end of his deal as well? Looked a class above anything else they had today. Pace, skill and intelligence in his play. He could do well with better players around him.

It's hard for us to speculate about players when we don't even know what formation we will play. If were playing four at the back I wouldn't be sure about freeman. I think we need to invest in younger players further up the pitch and maybe a championship experienced head to do the role wright is playing at the minute. Even if were keeping this formation id like more wide options if we do wish to change it during a game. I think EEL due to his contract situation may cost more then his worth and chapman doesn't seem near the team.
at the moment I like the idea of signing
Neil etheridge (27) GK competition
Jason McCarthy (21) Good potential.
Jake buxton (32) Could be the experienced head next to O'Connell and McCarthy?
Ryan ledson (19) be a good defensive option in midfield when were up against it. Good potential.
Sam morsy (25) well balanced midfielder, be great alongside fleck.
Marcus Maddison (23) creative, confident, be a great option for us to change things in a game.
Adam Armstrong (20) think he would want a move if newcastle get promoted. Not set the league alight but I think there's a player there.
Sam Gallagher (21) be ambitious but we need to be to give it a real go.

That's 8 players, mostly young with good resale value. Probably need a full back aswell.Might be over ambitious but I'm not sure how long left some of our key players have and who could step up. They need real competition and players who could be in the side for a few seasons at least.

Alan Nixon suggesting Sunderland and Villa have strong interest in Gallagher along with 'loads' of others. He's also suggesting he's likely to move on a permanent transfer. Think we can forget about him. Financially clubs like Villa and Sunderland are on another level.

Not much chance of Gallagher if they're sniffing.

Who do we reckon would be worthwhile as a quick, direct striker? I've noticed Ivan Toney seems to be picking up form lately but I've not seen enough of him to know if it's a purple patch or if he's actually any good. Same goes for Ellis Harrison at Bristol Rovers - scored in their last match, scored 4 in a match earlier in the season but overall his record doesn't inspire confidence.

There's got to be a diamond in the rough somewhere.

I like the Assombalonga suggestion earlier in the thread . As said it would need Forest to go down and he'd cost a lot but he's exactly the type of striker we need.

Wouldn't want Assombalonga for what he'd cost. He had a long term knee injury and hasn't hit the same form since.

One name to add to this thread is Mark Marshall. Looked good yesterday and is out of contract. Could be a good squad player for us.

if we could get him on loan i'd deffor go for jamie ward i know he's 29/30 but he still knows where the back of the net is or i'd look at cauly woodrow on loan at burton hes still young and scored a few goals for them

If we are to sign a proven striker I'd go for James Vaughan at Bury, he's scored 22 goals in 33 games so far this season in a terrible Bury side (just above relegation) and has played 47 games in the Premier league for Everton, proven in the Championship scoring 14 in his first season for Huddersfield and then 17 in his 2nd season, I think the only reason why he is not a Championship or Premier League player now is because of injuries but now he's fully fit he's showing his quality, I think him and Billy would work well.

I'd rate him if the money was right. For a player with his injury record I wouldn't want to see us overpay, and contractually you'd want to cover some bases just in case the fitness issues come back. Last thing we need is another James Wallace situation.

At the moment I like the sound of Jason McCarthy and Lee Gregory. I think they would add something. I'm not sure how we improve on the midfield other than adding depth. It would be hard to displace any of the usual three or Carruthers.

New name from me, Chris Baird. Out of contract at Derby and may not be staying. 35 now but he's an experienced, versatile and intelligent defensive player and exactly the sort who'd help stabilise us at that level. Playing in the middle of a back 3 could suit him well.

We definitely need depth in midfield. I think someone like Tom Adeyemi would be a good option for us. Plus another who is better defensively than what we have. I'm struggling for names off the top of my head in that regard though.

Josh Vela :)

I'm intrigued by this as well. Adeyemi also crossed my mind recently. Seems to be a player that can play in the Championship but I'm concerned he's become lost in a very poor team at Rotherham. Not sure what to make of him at this point. Might be worth a punt.

I think we need someone defensively minded as well in a way. More specifically a destroyer type. Someone that can win it and move it on. It's the one thing we don't really have and something we might need at the next level.

I'll throw in a name for a midfield destroyer...

Gael Bigirimana from Coventry. Seen him a few times this season and he's looked impressive and he seemed to be everywhere when we played them at the Lane

He's out of contract at Cardiff at the end of the season and is a decent age. He's not one to build a team around but would add a different dimension.

I agree. We're not desperate to have someone like that in the eleven every week but it's all about different options like with our strikers. There are going to be games when it's backs against the wall stuff and extra protection for the defence will be needed at times. Jason Lowe at Blackburn is out of contract, maybe he's the type of realistic target we're looking at.

We were linked with him when we signed Simon Moore, but he opted for Championship football.

I imagine Wilder will pluck most of his signings from League One. Players that are ready to step up and I think there are a number of those. There will be the odd bargain or freebie floating around in the Championship though for sure.

Wasn't he the one Fleck left for dead for his goal?

David Davis from B'ham if they go down is well worth a look at to give us more midfield options as is Stephen Gleeson, he would suit our current system rather well, aswell as being able to slot in effectively into a central 3 should that be used.

shame forest had a good result which could keep them up. Assombalonga is exactly what we need alongside sharp, he had a terrible injury but hes got 12 goals this season for a poor forest side, Vaughan is another option we need a pacey goalscorer alongside sharp next season i think, Clarke has definitely played his way into next seasons squad too.

random name in the mix, Sean Maguire. Scored 8 in 10 games for cork city. Turned down league on interest as he rates his chances above it.
