For 45 we probably had our best half of football, we moved more, first to the ball, ran our socks off, some good movement, pretty much all the players were on it.

10 minutes of brain farts, fucked us over.

Mee was carrying an injury and should have come off.

But although that result stings…. there are good signs that things are improving, win the next game that’s 9 out of 12 and we’d all have been pleased with that from the international break.

Steady progress, and climb the table, be around 6 points off the playoffs before after Christmas as I think we’ll give it a go.

What is sickening, is the state of the champ this year and the opportunity we’ve thrown away.

Strangely I'm more optimistic after tonight for the reasons you stated. The big concern is our inability to sustain it over 90 minutes, and certainly not during two or three game weeks. We have about five players that are fit enough for the Championship battle. I'd have made eight or nine changes by the 55 minute mark and I wouldn't be happy with some of the replacements. There's no saving us from the effects of that. Unfortunately Burrows was poor on two of the goals. I was hoping the Blackburn game would've seen him turning a corner.

We became sloppy towards half time and the extra 5 minutes we let them in we stopped doing what we had been doing well ! happy to go in 2 up taking your foot off the gas!.
2 nil at half time and we would win easy .
Soumare' came on for a cameo did well again and the chance he missed was difficult really.
Has to start for me next Sat.

Things look like they are improving before returning to type. Nothing is improving.

Wilder has proven he isn't a good manager.

Cooper has proven he's distinctly average, certainly no better than Foderingham.

Burrows has proven he's an awful defender.

McGuinness has proven he's a bottom 6 championship defender.

Peck has proven he's simply not good enough.

Cannon has proven he'd rather be anywhere else that on the pitch in a Blades shirt.

And back to Wilder again who has proven he'll stick with "his boys" no matter how wank they prove to be, because they are his boys and he can blame them when we lose. Then rinse and repeat.

There is absolutely nothing positive about us this season.

Tonight reminded me a lot of Southampton a few weeks ago, put in a performance in spells but defensive errors and not taking our chances cost us the game, especially as we were 1-0 up against Southampton as well.

Feels like a proper letdown after the Blackburn game as we were clinical in that game, but couldn't do the same tonight.

Better decision making (especially in front of goal) and at the minimum we get a point tonight, but 6 points out of 9 (in 6 days) is a decent haul for where we were this time last week.

Hopefully some of them will have been reminded of a valuable lesson tonight, in that if you don't take your chances, a game can turn so quickly like it did tonight.

We've got a week to prepare for Derby, almost like having half an international break but with the benefit of not losing any of the players to international duty.

A full week to get ready for the next match, during which time any players who got knocks or were running on fumes tonight, Campbell, Mee and McGuinness (based on shoutbox) can have a well needed rest ready for the next game.

That being said, still some positives to come out of that, we're scoring more goals (just got to get better at keeping them out), we're creating more chances as a whole (just got to be more clinical), and we look like we're improving week after week.

Watched the game with my brother who is a Wednesdayite and he said once the dust has settled Wilder will see the positives.
He said 1st half we were in complete control….switched off the 1st goal….2nd goal was just bad luck.

Goals change games and at 2-2 PNE grew in confidence and looked decent…we looked poor but he said the players will learn not to be complacent.
But he said….apart from maybe Coventry there are no good sides in the league this season and he says United still have a realistic chance of play-offs because the league is so poor. Could be a record low points to end up in the pksy-offs.

He said that last seasons Sheff Wed with Danny Rohl would probably currently be in a play-off position
And said it’s ironic that the 1st season Chansiri stops trying for promotion….the league is incredibly weak and wide open for an average team to be promoted.

Negatives - all confidence built in recent weeks likely to have been destroyed by such a collapse from 2-0 up.

If you’ve played football you’d realise it doesn’t work like that.
Confidence doesn’t come and go after 1 match….its a gradual process of confidence building or going down.
Confidence has taken a knock tonight but it will still be at a decent level and higher than it was 2 weeks ago.

Could be talking about a season where all three promoted sides are non-parachute teams.

When was the last time that happened, it's usually at least 1 non-parachute team that gets promoted each season but I can't remember a time where all 3 promoted clubs were non-parachute teams.

Coventry for the moment are running away with it, the true test will be to see if they can keep it up all season, same with Middlesbrough if they carry on the way they are.

I am not getting Peck at all.... sorry .. a bang average league one player ... mates could b busquests .. wilder just seens to pick peck ..... hes not good enough

Excellent post. Compared to the Selles Disaster 6 points from a possible 9 , including 2 away games , isn't too shabby. Chris Wilder will sort it & hopefully we will have a productive JTW.

I'm positive the only one of your 'proven' statements is the one about Cannon.
The rest are nonsense.

I bet you're fun at parties.

Biggest positive is we have scored 5 in the last two away from home. Goals are vital and make all the difference. We could couldn’t score at all under selles. If we could have defended better last night we would have won, but that’s not normally our problem.

Don’t disagree with much of that.

But last night as good as the first half was, we shat the bed as soon as they put pressure on.

Poor game management and emotionally fragile

We had the nicer kit and the M1 is better than the M6.

If we keep having weeks like this where we win two and lose one then that will take us to 77 points which would be a solid play off finish.

We’ve also now played more away games than home games and whilst I can see Coventry away as a defeat I can also see the other two as wins.

That would already put us on 15 from 15.

We won the xG 2.37 to 1.57 showing we were creating the better chances.

That’s as the away team and as a team missing key players.

There are firm reasons to believe this team can improve. There will be bumps along the way. But losing in a 5 goal thriller when you feel disappointed is a far cry from surrendering 5-0.

If you insist on reacting game by game there will be disappointment but month by month I think we’ll see progression. We just need to show patience as fans and I know that isn’t easy.

Yep and scoring good goals as well.

I agree about the fitness, we were at it for a good 35 mins - but you could see them blowing out their arse after that, so fitness could be part of the reason for the collapse, tired bodies make tired minds and mistakes.

But there are positives, win the next 2 home games and that’s progression.

More confident we can get to 51+ now. Any talk of more than that, when the team cannot handle any time of athleticism or intensity from an opponent (Watford and Blackburn played incredibly slowly) is extremely premature I think

We are scoring a few goals and for periods look very good.

Sadly, our stamina (physical and mental) is sub par.

Who’s been.using in S6 then?
We had 30 minutes same pattern as last year then seeing it out
This year we don’t have the quality desire even fitness levels are worse “to see a game put”

3 games in 6 days (a game every 3 days) with roughly the same starting 11 will have an effect on that, especially as some players who have played more minutes than others in those games (like Ben Mee) look a bit more tired than others.

Mee who hasn't had a proper preseason but looks after himself fairly well given is age, has played 270+ minutes of football in 6 days, which for his age and lack of a proper preseason is a lot of football in such a short space of time.

Soumare who is still building up his match fitness looked knackered when he came off against Blackburn.

It's why teams with bigger squads tend to fare better in these situations, because they can keep players rested and refreshed through rotation.

CW in his first spell made good use of a larger squad to keep the team fresh in these situations, the likes of Jay O'Shea, Lavery, Cranie, Stearman, Dowell, Madine and Hogan.

O'Hare seems to be able to play as much football as he has done these last 3 days without dropping his energy and effort levels, but I suspect that is because he knows how to pace himself through games to make sure he doesn't tire quickly.

Anyone watching that game last night now has a blue print on how to beat us.

Hopefully there are at least two more teams worse than us to go down with Wednesday. It’s going to be a long old slog to 50 points

Wilder has been complaining about our squad being too big.

Wilder has been complaining about our squad being too big.
True, which I don't get why he'd complain about that.

The only thing I can think of is that some the players who are increasing the size of the squad aren't ready to play for us in the championship yet, and he's not prepared to play them because he knows they're not ready.

Players like Ukaki, Zätterström, Marsh, Oné etc, all of whom should be out on loan ideally.
