Hi,

Firstly huge congratulations on your promotion!

You may know I'm the pre-match reporter for the Port Vale Fans Forum One Vale Fan.

Part of my role is to contact fans of our forthcoming opponents to ask them a few questions and gain their views on the upcoming fixture between our sides in order to produce a report which we release on the site a couple of days prior to the game. Some of you kindly contributed to our reverse fixture article and I wondered if some posters would like to take part by answering some different questions.

I wondered if up to three of you have a few minutes and would kindly offer your feelings on the game by answering the following few questions;
1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?
2. How are your team doing (current form and in relation to the expectation of fans at the start of the season) and where do you think you will finish the season - i.e. top or second?
3. Who should we watch out for (one or more danger player/s)?
4. What are your thoughts on your manager?
5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?
6. Any views on the current Port Vale team & specific players?
7. Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season? If so what were your thoughts on the game?
8. Any views & memories of players / managers that have been involved with both teams and which Vale player past or present would you take for your team?
9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides)?

Please also feel free to include any other information you feel worthy and I will knock it into a report as per the example below regarding contribution from Doncaster fans from a game with them;
http://www.onevalefa...ws-doncaster-h/

To enable me to produce this in good time I need a reply by Wednesday evening and the report should appear on the website just before our fixture.

Please also let me know if you would like me to include your name on the article and if you are prepared to share one a photo of yourself we can utilise with the article.

Many thanks for your potential support in this matter.

Best Regards,

REP

1. 46 years a Blade. Most of them frustrating or disappointing

2. :D Top

3. Fleck, Clarke, Billy is due a goal, O'Connell, Invincible (Wright), Ahh fuck the whole damned lot of 'em

4. Genius

5. The Original United, playing at the oldest football ground in current use in the world, and the current British Club Champions!

6. Michael Brown seems to be struggling a bit.

7. Couldn't get up from London for it. Sounded like a massacre

8. Michael Brown obviously, bit of a legend at BDTBL. Past players, I'd have quite like to have seen your namesake in a Blades shirt

9. Don't do predictions, but Billy Wilder wants the title and what he wants he usually gets!

5.
i. We could become only the fourth team to win all four divisions as early as Monday.

ii. We are the second club called United in the world. The first was a small Rovrum side which folded a short while after we were established. Tell me, did Newton Heath get their new moniker from the Rovrum team? :D

iii. Bramall Lane is not only the oldest league stadium in the world but hosted the oldest cup competition in the world- the Youdan Cup in 1867 (what a great year )

1. Man. Blade.
2.Top.Top.
3. Morsy
4. Not bad.
5. Scoogs is really 12, Billy hasn't scored for 6 games and Knill is the BFG.
6. They need some points
7. Yes, we played very well.
8. Brown
9. 3-0 Blades, Billy hat-trick.

1. Johnny Come Lately. Chose United over (ahem) any other team in the city when moving to Sheffield
2. Give over!
3. Everyone. Seriously. You can't relax for a second because every player in the team is a potential goal creator/scorer.
4. Top man. Honest, down-to-earth and a genuine fan living his dream.
5. Named after a cricket team, reached the Cup Final via a goal by Sean Bean at Bramall Lane in "When Saturday Comes", are the reason Derry City play in red & white stripes
6. The table doesn't lie, I'm afraid.
7. It was a massacre. So sorry, but Vale have been the least difficult opponents at the Lane this season. The manager might as well have written his resignation note straight after the match because it was obvious the team were heading down the League.
8. Ernie Moss, Bob Newton, Robbie Earle and Mark Chamberlain come to mind.
9. I expect a Blades win by a goal or two. PVFC are going to have to put on a great performance in order to avoid defeat.

Cheers.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

29 years a regularly attending fan, and a season ticket holder for the last 12 or more.

2. How are your team doing (current form and in relation to the expectation of fans at the start of the season) and where do you think you will finish the season - i.e. top or second?

We'll finish top - it's almost done already. That's miles better than most expected given the truly dreadful season we had last year and the collection of half-hearted, ageing, immobile chuffs we had wearing the shirt.

3. Who should we watch out for (one or more danger player/s)?

We don't have a superstar beyond the obvious Sharp, but all are comfortable in their positions and very good players at this level. No weak links.

4. What are your thoughts on your manager?

Phenomenal job. Passionate, always honest, surprisingly advanced tactically, very adaptable, and clearly commands respect. Who knew?

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

Quirky? Erm... We're very ordinary at crossing the ball but still score for fun. We're often lethal in the final 15 minutes. We lack pace up front but still pull opponents all over the park.

6. Any views on the current Port Vale team & specific players?

A very anaemic season for your club, and they didn't offer much at the Lane, so I'm struggling to offer much of an opinion. Survival is still clearly possible so I'm expecting a very tough game, especially as our lot have spent the last few days on the ale.

7. Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season? If so what were your thoughts on the game?

This was about the time we got our form together so you were unfortunate not to play us a week or two earlier. If I remember the game correctly, it could have been a cricket score.

8. Any views & memories of players / managers that have been involved with both teams and which Vale player past or present would you take for your team?

Michael Brown is the obvious answer. He was a great player for us and had one ridiculous season scoring 20 goals from midfield as we reached two cup semis and the play-off final. My lasting memory of Vale is our fight for promotion from this division in 1988 - it was my first regular season of watching and I remember Vale were rock solid that year - we couldn't shake them off until the very end of the season. Another famous memory is the game you won 3-1 at Bramall Lane (1999?) in front of a woeful crowd which led to the resignation of both our manager and chairman. One of a few modern day nadirs in our recent history.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides)?

I think we could lose this given our preparation and Vale's need for points. Was surprised to see Chris Eagles still playing - he often did well against us in the past, and has a history on the wrong side of town. So the runes point to 1-0 Vale, Eagles. But if we're sober and on form we will win. 2-1, Sharp winner in the 88th. Failing that it'll be a draw. You heard it here first.

1. Grew up in a Blades household and was told if I wanted to support Wednesday I would have to find a new home, even though neither of my parents are from Sheffield or were originally Blades (excellent parenting!).

2. We're finally escaping this league as the best team in it. Even the most optimistic fan wouldn't have predicted the style in which we have achieved promotion with quality football and loads of goals. Current form is that of champions and these players seem able to take any challenge in their stride. The divisional title awaits.

3. The match winner genuinely could be any outfield player. John Fleck has somehow managed to stand out from a very good group this season, and seems to have found another gear in the last couple of games adding goals to his impressive assists tally. If he is rested, I think this could be the game for Samir Carruthers to put on a show. Billy Sharp is due a goal.

4. Chris Wilder has returned the pride to this club and its supporters. At the beginning of the season the expectation was to mount a more serious challenge for the top six after last season's shambles, but fans were preparing themselves to be patient in allowing him two full seasons to achieve promotion. The speed with which he has turned a bloated, underperforming squad into a hardworking, well-drilled, successful group is quite staggering. In reality he achieved this in just one transfer window, with January's business giving us extra depth and strength that the division couldn't compete against. Wilder's ability to notice, and fix, a problem is far beyond anything I've seen from a United manager in the past, both in the transfer market and during games. He will admit mistakes and give everyone a chance, evidenced by new signing Chris Hussey disappearing from the match day squad after a poor start to the season, and the transfer-listed Kieron Freeman and Paul Coutts knuckling down to become key players. Best of all, he's one of us. He knows what makes the fans tick, so he knows exactly what his players must do to make the most of our loyal support. It's something special to see your club succeed with a fan as manager and a fan as captain.

5. Bramall Lane hosted the first floodlit football match, is the oldest stadium in the world hosting professional football and is only one of two grounds to have hosted international football, test cricket and an FA Cup final.

6. Sorry, I'm not sure I know much/anything about Vale at the moment.

7. Yes I did! We had the ball in the back of the net 8 times, and honestly 8-0 wouldn't have flattered us. Probsbly the most one-sided win I've seen for us, it was an absolute joy.

8. Michael Brown is the obvious answer. One golden season for us, had a habit of kicking people every time he came back.

9. 3-0 Blades, Clarke to continue his scoring run (I can't believe I'm saying that!), one for goal-machine Freeman and Carruthers to break his duck. I'm hoping Bolton also win so we can seal the title on the telly on Monday.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?
3rd generation Blade, my grandfather saw "Nudger" Needham play but his hero was Billy Gillespie. Raised in an Owl area but never wavered. George Best and Bobby Charlton played for the opposition in the first match I saw and we matched them on the day. I then followed the demise to division 4, back again and, well you know. ST holder for 30+ years. Little BB is 4th generation Blade.
2. How are your team doing (current form and in relation to the expectation of fans at the start of the season) and where do you think you will finish the season - i.e. top or second?

We are doing better than expected, we will win the league
3. Who should we watch out for (one or more danger player/s)?

The whole of the midfield are a class above anything in this division, the defence can leak the odd goal but we have the divisions leading scorer and can score goals from anywhere. And we do! If you go 1 nil up, don't believe for one moment that you've got us beat.
4. What are your thoughts on your manager?

An encouraging start to what will hopefully be a long managerial career with SUFC
5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

The first "United", the only team ever to score 10 goals away from home in a league fixture;)
6. Any views on the current Port Vale team & specific players?

Not really that familiar with any of them, sorry
7. Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season? If so what were your thoughts on the game?

Yes. Never seen 4 goals disallowed in a game before
8. Any views & memories of players / managers that have been involved with both teams and which Vale player past or present would you take for your team?

Michael Brown delivered the finest midfield season I have witnessed - 22 goals from midfield, most of them absolute screamers. How did Spurs waste this talent
9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides)?

A reverse of our record win, 10-0 Port Vale;)

6. You have recently, I believe, employed Muckanettles Upanatem Morgan as a coach? You may be interested to know that he was first given a coaching job as a cost-cutting measure, not on merit. His football philosophy is "Nowt Fancy - Like Bassett." He is a devotee of Hoofball and utterly inept.

Many of our fans would, however, give him a job tomorrow, despite him being completely unsuitable for (and likely to damage) a footballing team, because he's called 'Morgs'.

An army of Bladey Blades (an unsophisticated and rather oddball section of our fan base) will now descend to say what a legend he is and other such irrelevancies. Don't be fooled.

I will hopefully answer you tomorrow, I should be sober by then. Thank you for your enquiry.

1. I have a receding hairline, passed my driving test in 1984 and have never been to a football match.
2. I think we will finish 1st, which is a big disappointment. After last years poor finish we hoped to make the play offs this season.
3. Martin Woolford and Dean Hammond.
4. He's not as good as Adrian Heath
5. We're from Sheffield,we've played hoofball since 1989 and we spread Henderson's relish on the penalty spot as a pre match ritual.
6. Gareth Ainsworth is my favourite ever Port Vale player.
7. I have never reversed to any fixture as I think it would be too dangerous.
8. My favourite player who has played for both teams is Kevin Keegan. The current player I would take from Port Vale for our team is definitely Steven Gerrard.
9. I think it will be 0-0 and Billy Sharp will score both of the goals

Hi Robbie Earle's Perm. Could you answer me a question or two please?
In all my years as a Blades supporter I've never been to Port Vale. Although your fan base is not too big it seems there is a reputation about your fans being quite aggressive and nasty. Not just via what I've heard through supporters forums but through personal word of mouth as well. Do you believe your supporters deserve this reputation and if not then how has it been gained and don't you think your club should be doing more to change it?

2. How are your team doing (current form and in relation to the expectation of fans at the start of the season) and where do you think you will finish the season - i.e. top or second?
Obvious answer, top. We need 4 points from 4 games.

3. Who should we watch out for (one or more danger player/s)?
Could be a long list. Of 22 players (including 2 goalies) who've played league football for the club this year, 17 have scored. Clarke or Fleck are probably the ones you need to keep the closest eye on at the moment. Don't need to worry about Sharp, he's just a fat lad from Sheffield.

4. What are your thoughts on your manager?
Incredible year. We were a mess, going the wrong way when he arrived. Promoted before I'd bought the Easter eggs. Unbeleivble

6. Any views on the current Port Vale team & specific players?
Michael Brown is the only one that stands out as a name, perhaps Chris Eagles as well. Brownie had a wonder season for us, scoring 20 from midfield. Eagles always looked a threat in the Championship, a few years back.

7. Did you attend the reverse fixture earlier this season? If so what were your thoughts on the game?
You were the first team to get properly rolled over, 4-0. Swindon are the only other team since that tried to play an open game against us and they lost 4-0 too. The Port Vale game could have been 8 though, we were on fire.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides)?
1-1. But Vale will have to scrap like hell to get that out of the game

Best of luck for next season, we'll not be having this chat.
