A lot's made of the expectation levels at this club, so let's try and establish this forum's average expectation for this season's league position. I know we've had the pre season predictions, but this should provide a fairer basis on which to judge performance by the end of the season and a reference point for our expectations.

Obviously our start to the season on the pitch will be factored in but looking at the bigger picture, what are your expectations based on the squad we have been able to assemble, in comparison with others in the division?

Head over heart. The more votes the better.

Don't forget there is the Jan Tran Window to consider ;)

What do you mean by a "Jan tran"? Could have got other meanings, Jan the tran posing in the window, well so somebody has just said, not me, of course :$

Gone for 12th - Although we've now got a more balanced squad we lack wingers that can beat a man & a box to box hard tackling midfield. I do like some of the signings we have made: Moore, Fleck, Lafferty and Lavery but we will not get promoted with players such as basham, coutts, freeman and done (on the wing) in our team. Another season in league 1 I fear.

To reiterate, head over heart, and serious votes only please. Let's try and establish the genuine expectations. Votes can be changed.

And I know we can't judge all the new signings properly yet but we can see what we haven't got, such as an experienced leader at CB and a central midfielder, and I think we can still reach reasonable conclusions about most of the new signings.

Went for 5th, but it's a shot in the dark really at this point. Think the squad is better than the poor start to the season would suggest, and the most recent signings give even more hope. Still need to see the team gel a bit more, relationships to settle and better patterns of play to develop to be convinced, but fingers crossed we can make the playoffs! (Though not sure I could bear another trip to Wembley if we get that far)

I've gone for 9th on the basis of no strong midfield leader.

If this bunch gel and Wilder gets them firing then automatic should not be ruled out. 35 goals between Sharp and Clarke would go a long way to help with everyone else chipping in.

Alternatively it could be a long long season spent near the wrong end of the table.

Could go either way at this stage. We will all have a much better idea by October.

I'm going for 10th and that's at the optimistic end of my expectations. The signings look decent on paper but we haven't addressed three very important areas where we are lacking.....leadership, experience and a midfield currently lacking enough presence.

I expect another season of frustrating inconsistency that may improve towards the end as familiarity grows amongst the squad. We'll be ok but nowhere near where we want to or should be.

Heart says 6th and sneak up via the playoffs

Head says 18th steady decline in league position as seems to be the case each year, Wilder probably sacked at the end of the season

Very early to predict but I haven't seen anything yet to suggest we are any better than last season and the Southend game was worse in my opinion. I'm amazed at the number of votes for 2nd, is that sheer blind optimism or humour?

I've gone for 14th because I think it will take time for the players to adjust properly to another new style of play.

7th is the average expectation so far minus the hilarious votes for 24th.

20th. Seen nothing that represent a cohesive unit, and more worryingly anything better than how Adkins had us set up..
Not much pace about the side and a very low goal scoring midfield again.
Lost out second highest goal scorer.
Sold a glimmer of hope from our Academy again.
Big chunks of the budget used to pay off /get rid of the excesses of Clough and Adkins.
We are a long way of being anywhere decent. Pray Sharp stay fit and has form.
Amazed at the optimism, shown on here.
Time will tell.

15th.

Much smaller clubs have recruited a lot better than us. For example Posh signed Moncur, Scunthorpe signed Toffolo and MK Dons signed Colclough, while we signed an ex Oldham loanee and a guy that is recovering or just recovered from a broken foot. We've also lost out on one of the most important positions we needed to fill in CM. A lot was riding on those signings being right.

And the recruitment wasn't inspiring before that. The side we have now is roughly a mid table league one side in my view, but with the fans getting on the backs of the players at home, I think it'll end up finishing a few places lower.

Nearly 100 votes, 7th still the average.
