I have some "on the ground" info, from people who were in Volgograd, who I trust, who also tell me there are vigorous checks of the Fan ID in order to enter the Stadium.

That would be a first in my experience. It's been threatened at every tournament I've ever been to, but I've never actually seen it happen!

The difference this time is you need this Fan ID Laminate to actually get in the country in the first place. All recent tournaments have been Visa Free for UK Passport Holders. But, I understand your point.

I just can't stand the English mentality, it grates on me.
Everyone else can seem to support their country and have a good time and mingle, Look at how the Welsh and Irish fans conducted themselves in the Euro's.

Then look at the purple faced twats who embarrass the nation every single time with their nasty old invader attitude. The arrogance of those bastards makes me sick and I refuse to identify myself with them.

If it's football violence, I share your disdain for the perception that we're more violent or thuggish than any other nation.
However, as a Sheff Utd fan, I feel you should be able to appreciate a team in spite of a negative reputation when it comes to football violence.
I don't know if England or Sheff Utd have more incidents of hooliganism than comparative nations/clubs - I would love both teams regardless.

If it's arrogance, and the expectation of glory (the kind you might associate with another Sheffield club) then can I ask you, how often have you actually experienced this? The vast majority of England fan's Ive met are the opposite: they have an expectation of failure and are generally overly pessimistic in their predictions.

The biggest problem with the English mentality in my eyes is the sheer number of people who actively dislike the national team.

The violence caused by the English is less and less. The welsh will have a sing song, the Irish too, even throw in their Anti- English songs, but they're having a good time whilst we're an embarrassment for doing no different?

Throw in the Russians, Ukranians, Bosnians, Serbians, Kosovans, Albanians, Greeks, Turks, Croatians and you'll find we're way down the list when it comes to hooliganism.

I had a great time in Lille and Lens having a beer and mingling with the Welsh fans. As did every other English and Welsh fan I saw.

I'm not talking about arrogance with regard to the national team, it's arrogance in general.
England fans seem incapable of loving their country without being hostile towards somebody else. Most nations fans can make a good atmosphere and a party mood. With England however it's a "We're Engerland, who the fuck are you?" sort of undercurrent even if there's no physical violence.
I simply have nothing in common with them, and in fairness I don't like a large proportion of United's support either.

If you admit that (like myself) there's a proportion of United fans you don't like, and seemingly love the blades as much as any other fan, then surely you can understand my point?
