I'll be around the Katowice, Krakow, Zakopane area on Sunday.

Any advice on where would be decent to watch the England game, preferably with plenty of expats?

I'd recommend heading up to Gdansk and frequenting the 4 Zloty bar.

Flat rate of 80p for everything, whether it's beer, wine, vodka or cider. For a city that did its best to overthrow Communism they clearly kept some of its ideals.

The Lechia Gdansk hooligans are very friendly and chatty as long you avoid talking about race and nationality, then it takes a dark turn.

Main bit of advice however is don't waste a good trip by watching fucking Engerland.

For those who are still in Sheffield, I'm off to watch the Poland game at the Polish bar at the top end of London Road on Sunday. Did it a couple of years ago for the Euro's and it was a cracking atmosphere; I definitely recommend it . I'd be going in today for 4pm if it wasn't for fucking work.

At a wedding unfortunately and Gdansk is other side of the country, prob a good 8/900k. I do however plan on travelling up there are getting the train over into Kaliningrad for the Belgium game and hope to bag a ticket.

Jabeerwocky (ul Nowogrodzka 12) is an excellent craft beer place I seem to remember has one of those big pull down screens (it's very central so might be worth checking in advance they're going to show it). Friendly bar staff, some interesting Polish beer and even had Thornbridge on tap when I was there.

Krakow will be full of english and there are loads of bars, all dead cheap. stay clear of the alley of lost souls what with Poland losing.

yes, I live in Warsaw...you'll want Legends...on Emilii Plater street. Assuming you want an English pub with English commentary and an English landlord, that is. Otherwise I can point you to a number of local hostelries...

The Katowice, Krakow, Zakopane area? That's about comparable to the Sheffield, Durham, Sunderland area! It's 125 miles from Katowice to Zakopane. If you want Expats and tourist tat go to Krakow. If you want anything remotely interesting and a bit more real go to Katowice. Zakopane is miles away from both.

Scooter_mcgavin hi Mate, I come in peace, in the hope I can help. I've got friends "on the ground" in Russia. How will you get through the Border into Russia/Kaliningrad? Do you have a conventional old skool Visa? Or do you have a one off FIFA Fan ID to get you through?

In the grand scheme of things, they're close. Poland is slightly larger than the UK.

I don't have anything other than a passport. Not actually thought about Russia not being in the EU , shitty sticks.

OK. Look. I am really trying to help. I'll put the Disclaimer "but don't take my word for it".
I have a ticket for a WC game. Bought through the official FIFA System. Once you have been allocated a ticket, you apply online for a FIFA Fan ID with the ticket reference number. You have to supply passport details & upload a photo. Then a laminated photo ID is couriered from Russia. That laminate is effectively your Visa to enter Russia. It saves you going through the much more complicated process of applying for a conventional Visa. I have some "on the ground" info, from people who were in Volgograd, who I trust, who also tell me there are vigorous checks of the Fan ID in order to enter the Stadium.
I'm a Blagger. I'm normally wary of "you won't get in" scare stories. But, you'd better have that Heads Up. Sorry.

Cheers for the heads up mate.

Can't you hate Scotland and Germany instead?

I do dislike Scotland, they're the Barnsley of Britain.

I can't hate Germany though cos I'm predominantly German ethnically speaking, I even have a Kraut surname. So I follow their progress :)

Yeah. 62% German, 20% English and the rest is Irish according to DNA results at least.

I dont mean in terms of race or ethnicity - I don't personally think it means anything.

I mean culturally, do you think of yourself as an English person or a German person?

I'm one of the ever decreasing number of people who still defines myself as primarily 'British' as opposed to just English really. I find 'English' too reductive.

You can be both. Being proud to be English and being proud to be British aren't mutually exclusive.

Ultimately, you're free to identify and relate to wherever you see fit, but it seems a shame when people (certainty not just yourself) can't get behind their national team, like every other country appears to do.

I think there are many reasons to be positive and supportive of the "new" England side, but even if you don't agree, I just despair for people desperate for reasons to be negative

I just can't stand the English mentality, it grates on me.
Everyone else can seem to support their country and have a good time and mingle, Look at how the Welsh and Irish fans conducted themselves in the Euro's.

Then look at the purple faced twats who embarrass the nation every single time with their nasty old invader attitude. The arrogance of those bastards makes me sick and I refuse to identify myself with them.

I'll continue to plough a simple furrow. Not all traveling England Supporters are as you describe. OK, in countries which are easy to get to - France Germany The Netherlands maybe, I'll happily concede there have been situations as you describe. But, those fans who can get themselves to Volgograd are committed, respectful & resourceful tourists.

You say "every single time" - I'm pleading, that is not the case. Not in Brazil, Japan, South Africa - it is simply not true to say every single time.
