Oh and the prick that burps in my ear 15 times per game sat behind me on the kop is gonna get a punch in the face soon.

If you can't handle orange tango don't drink it.

ive been to 2 away games this season, yeovil and bristol rovers in the cup, the blades support was good on the whole, but we could do more, ie in the rovers game the home team shouted 'we forgot that you were here' at one point as we were pretty quiet for some time and were winning at that point. i cant comment on the support at the lane as ive not been this season, but im not convinced thats the reason we've dropped so many points at home.

i take it you think we havent supported the team enough at home then?

We have played 15 home and 15 away league matches so far this season, getting 24 at home and 27 away. For home games Blades fans need to give full backing to the team like our away support have done this season

Ah Silent, bodes well for the play offs! ;)

Must be the team having played the highest number of play off ties that has never won an away tie not to mention scoring a goal in the final!

I think if we reach the damn things again we should call in a bloody witch doctor.......or Merlin.

No offence to the OP but I don't really understand what point is being made here. We're talking about a 2 point difference in home and away games.

Tranmere, Donny and Coventry have also got at least as many away points as home ones - so if there is a problem then we are not alone. And it could be worse one of our local semi-pro teams Needham Market have won 7 times away this season and not won one of their home games

At home we are spread about and there isn't much coherence to the noise made by the crowd, away we are packed together in a smaller space meaning the noise made by one side of the stand can be infectious enough to spread throughout. There's probably the same amount of singing etc. at both home and away-it's just more noticeable away.

As for the results-it's already been said that there is less pressure away (on the whole), but I think that having the fans appear more vocal away helps the players.

That then means 27 - 24 = 2. Now, I don't want to suggest that those Remedial Maths lessons would have served you better if you'd paid some attention towards the teacher at the front of the class rather than that week's window flavour, but really. 2?

No offence to your wonderful post pointing out the points difference between home and away matches.

It's 3, by the way. 27 - 24 = 3. ;)

I suspect it has very little to do with the fans. It is much more about the way teams set up when they come to the Lane. They keep their shape, press us high and hit us on the counter attack. They raise their game, as it is essentially one of the biggest games of the season for them. I expect that managers spend a bit more time doing their homework on how they are going to play at Bramall Lane. And as we are one dimensional, it is pretty straight forward. Press K Mac hard and give us little space in midfield and we'll pass along the back line before hoffing to Kitson.

There is possibly an element of our own players getting nervous in front of the big home crowds, but I think that the Lane faithful have been pretty patient, despite some of the shite served up. If this is the case and the pressure is off away from home, then it could show why we are getting more points away from home.

However, in my opinion it is about the way that the home team set themselves up. At their place, they are expected to attack us. It is up to them to break us down in front of their fans. Wilson can set us up solid and try and nick a goal. We just need to be rock solid and then hope that one of our quality players (McMahon with a free kick, Flynn with a bit of magic, Kitson popping in a gola etc) comes up with the good.

The away support and lack of expectations may help, but I think that basically Wilson tactics and the way that the team has played this season, are much or suited to playing away from home.

Agree with that, yesterday's front six was definitely a step in the right direction, it had decent balance and probably enough quality to work well away against most teams away.

At home we may need a little more, and one thing to look at would be the full backs - who plays there, and how much are they able/encouraged to go forward.

Another thing is that we must get the mentality right before every match, not appear shell shocked when an opposition is set up a little different than expected, like vs Yeovil.

Yeah, spot on. We have given teams head starts recently and struggled to get back. We need to get back to being solid, but more importantly we need to be up for it from the start. We need to dicatate the tempo and be on it from the 1st minute. We need to expect them to press us hard and match it. Doyle and K Mac need to do what they did yesterday and win the battle.

I can't see the fullbacks being changed for home games, no matter how much we need them to get forward. But do you think there's a case for starting with a midfield 5, at least until the game settles down?

The last three teams who came here have been allowed to grab the initiative with incredible ease. We've been pushed back, and against Cov ended up defending our 18 yard box with 11 men for the whole first half!

Maybe Forte's pace will mitigate against this happening again, but I'll be mighty dischuffed if we don't compete properly next time.

Thanks, my eyes and mind may have been a little heavy due to the time you can see on the post, still as long as long as it gives you the chance to stick a smug post on, then I feel I have been of help. I shall continue to try and give you these opportunities, I wouldn't want your life to be empty.

Well, it fills a spare thirty seconds. Thanks. Bonus points for staying up past bed time though.

If they play like the second half of the Coventry game the fans will be giving a loud backing, but another performance like the first half against Coventry and its going to be a lot of grumbles and moans.
We do pay to be entertained, that is the idea of football isn't it?
