Please play attacking football

If last time round taught us anything, playing defensively and trying to get one on the break will not keep us up.

Our unique style has severed us very well for the last 3 years. It is a great starting point. It will change as the new players win their places. So far from what I have seen only Robinson has, but Bryant has not looked bad and he was the worst player I had ever seen last Jan in that cup disgrace, so pre-season is pre-season and wilder sees it al,l we dont.

The one thing that is for sure, is if we go for it and put 100% out there the fans will give 100% as we did with Basset and only 4 points in December. (That was an amazing 6 months from then)

I for one have not looked forward to a season more in over 40 years of ups and downs.

I only worry about us giving teams too much respect and the owners potential to screw it up.

Couldn't agree more, if we go for it and the worst happens, then at least we know that we tried.

Agree, away at Man U last time we could have had em, they were not focused on us, Shelton should have had a pen, but Rooney did score a superb goal over his shoulder. Unfortunately I can not see me getting tickets like the old days, a couple of years of working weekend screws your points up and as for the lad, he has no chance, even though he got to the likes of Bristol and Swansea last year.

With the signings made to date I can't see any options but to go for it. Really attacking emphasis in the transfer window and while we will inevitably get one or two thumping's we will surprise many and I can see a few high scoring contests coming up. What are the odds of one or two 4-3 (hopefully victories) in the early months?

Will be interesting to see the reaction if we play attacking open football away at a Bournmouth and lose 4-2.

You can almost gaurantee there will be many on here saying Wilder is tactically naive
And they knew we’d get caught out trying to play overlapping centre back football.

I think Wilder has the bottle to stick to his attacking principles.
The only potential spanner in the works is that our fans might not have the same bottle.
With many suggesting we need to focus on and strengthen the defence and be careful against better opposition.

Hope you are correct, it is this flat 3 in midfield that worries me. For us to be a success Norwood needs to prove his previous managers so wrong, we need him to play as a 30m midfielder. If he comes off and 3 of the summer signings we will be fine.

We're only one drubbing away from Wilder being lambasted for bolstering our defensive options with free signing of a 36yr old Jagielka and nothing else.

Last season we pushed the boat out (relatively) and got Egan as we needed a major upgrade in that area. With promotion to the Prem and the likes of Sterling and Salah raining down on our backline you'd have thought another major signing in that area was an inevitability. As confident as I am in the team, I can foresee major scrutiny of Wilder for bringing in mainly attacking options.

All I can think about is how Huddersfield played in their first season compared to the second.

First season they stuck to the principals that got them promoted, second season they fell into the trap of defensive play and bowing down to the big teams

True but the thing I find funny......is that everyone is praising him for signing plenty of strikers and attacking midfielders
Wilder has said that the key to staying up is having players capable of scoring goals.

However if we start conceding.......then you can bet there will be loads saying “they knew our defence was weak and urgently needed strengthening”
Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing?

Come Thursday we are locked into what we have, I suspect Tufty has at least one more up his sleeve.

Our new strike force is the least of our worries and I think we will score goals, something which is very important in the PL!
However, keeping them out at the other end is my biggest worry......that and Norwood

Agree it’s our best chance.

It’s why some of us are so concerned about the amount of pre season starts we have played the flat midfield three, it gives the impression we are going to set up more cautious at the beginning of games..

That would be a huge error imo.

Better sides than us have gone toe to toe with Bournemouth and lost by a bigger scoreline than 4-2

If we attack teams and try to score goals there won’t be any complaints from me if we lose

Totally agree

For my money, we will likely lose to top 6 home and away even if we park the bus. So may as well give it a go.

As for the rest, we will have a good chance to pick up points if we stick to the principles that have got us this far.

Let’s take the game to the opposition every time we play. No fear.
