Tbf, it’s not just United - I had the same situation when contacting Forest TO and trying to get a ticket with the home fans for Forest away in November 2019 (as, despite being an ST holder and living overseas, I had no luck when I spoke to our ticket office hoping that I may be able to get a ticket in the away end). Had to go through 2 levels of the Forest TO up to a manager (as no purchase history with Forest) and finally persuaded them to sell me one on the basis of having to show both my Canadian drivers licence and air ticket to prove “that i wasn’t a Sheffield fan looking to buy a ticket”. And that probably only worked cos I’ve lost a lot of my Sheffield accent over the years…Considering how well we've done in recent history to grow the fanbase with reasonable pricing and excellent kids prices, this seems such a regressive approach.
