With Soumare going, he joins the elite club of players whose goal total for United is negative- that is they scored more own goals then proper goals. He never scored for United but gave us that comedy OG against Norwich in December.

Other players I can think of who never scored at the right end but scored OGs

Brian Smith
Andy Barnsley
Phil Thompson
Roger Nilsen

There must be more. And who is the top "negative" goalscorer. Any on more than -1 Revolution Revolution Silent Blade ?

Others:

John Pemberton
Steve Simonsen
Rob Ullathorne (I think)

Everyone I can think of with more than one own goal has some credit too (eg Brian Gayle)

I was at Blackburn when we equalised from a corner that it looked like Soumare had put in but the defender just beat him to it. He was a bit unlucky.

I think Pemberton had more than 1 og. Or am I dreaming?

Anis Slimane is another of the -1 club, OG in the 3-2 loss against Luton on Boxing Day 2023.

And I can think of at least one Wes Foderingham own goal, the shot that unluckily rebounded in off him at Fulham ~October 2023.

Slimane is negative in the league but scored in the league cup v Wrexham.

Don't think we can count goalies, given theyre quite likely to score OGs and very unlikely to score proper ones.

I mean Leeds equaliser at the Lane End, I am convinced Chapman didn’t get the final touch

Which goal do you mean? Chapman didn’t score. The Leeds goals were:

  • Wallace (a weird deflection, but it definitely came off him - Pemberton was on the line and stuck his hand out but didn’t get near it)
  • Newsome (an open goal header at the Kop end)
  • Gayle OG (the mix up between him and Rees also at the Kop end)

Our goals were:
  • Cork (a scrappy turn and volley after a loose corner)
  • Chapman OG (after a Pemberton cut-back)

Cheers, just looked at the below footage, I knew the own goal was scored at the Lane End but for years in my head I got Pemberton and Chapman the other way round!

Easy to do when one is blond and the other dark. 🤷‍♂️

Noted this one as only the second mistake Silent has ever made on this site.

Trouble is, I’ve forgotten what the first one was 🤦‍♂️

First time I've thought about Steve Yates for a while - scored an OG in the "Jagielka brings it down on the chest long way out CRACKS IT" League Cup win over Leeds in 2002, don't believe he ever found the net at the right end for us?

Chapman offside.

The day I saw a united player score the first division title winning goal a bramall lane.
