Under David Weir we signed three in one summer, Shaun McGINty, Stephen McGINn and Fabian BRANDY.

Bert is in the Caribbean, he is here for a month but he will return for the game against our neighbours from S6.

You went all that way to get a pint of Adnams? The brewery is in Southwold, Suffolk, but you can even find a pint of it in Sheffield occasionally. Are you saving up for the airfare back? Is that why you're staying a month?

I think that sounds like a very nice holiday tbh. I've only been to the Caribbean once - to Barbados. It was nice, but not "paradise" as it's made up to be. I think having a few weeks though to travel and explore a few different islands would be good. Cuba would be pretty high on my list I think - see it now before the American's ruin it.

Did anyone ever try that stuff?!
Yes, with a Reckless chaser. It’s a long time ago but I think I did three. One of the few times that I genuinely couldn’t remember much of the rest of the night. From what I recall, it was similar to Barley Wine but darker. It was thick like treacle, hence the Reckless to wash it down. Reckless was an IPA I think, some kind of bitter but very strong, maybe 6%. Both brewed on site well before the micro-brewery trend started. This would have been around ‘87.

Jimmy Johnstone

End of thread!

In May 1974, during the build-up to the 1974 World Cup and just before a Home Championship match for Scotland against England at Hampden, Jimmy 'Jinky' Johnstone and his teammates took part in a drinking session at their hotel in Largs (Ayrshire).

In the early hours of the morning the group headed for the sea-shore, with Johnstone deciding to go out in a rowing boat.

However, the boat had no rowlocks for the oars to fit into and so he found himself being taken out to sea by the tide.

Stranded out at sea, the Coastguard had to rescue him and the incident dominated the press headlines for days afterwards.
---------

A year later he joined the Blades and helped us leave Division One in 1975-76, not to return for 14 years.

Six League appearances

Stoke (A) L 1-2
Ipswich (A) D 1-1
TOTTENHAM (H) L 1-2
MAN UTD (H) L 1-4
WOLVES (H) L 1-4 he scored)
IPSWICH (H) L 1-2

.... and one in the FA Cup, getting tonked 3-0 away at Leicester on Jan 3rd
