BBD coming back for his 3rd spell. He will have to wear a 3rd different number - #11, #20 and #???

So who else has had multiple numbers for us?

Sharp - #28, #24, #10

Beattie (the James variety) - #6, #9, #10

Cotterill- #12, #4 #11

Cannon - #28, #7, #9

Jags wore 40 (99/00), 21 (00/01 to 01/02), 17 (02/03 to 03/04), 6 (04/05 to 06/07) and 15 (19/20 to 20/21).

Deane will likely be fewer owing to the lack of squad numbers in those days.

During the warm up before the Northampton v Blades League Cup 1st leg match in September 1990. True story!

In the Blades line up at the back of the programme the players were given the wrong numbers and had Bob Booker as the number 1. When our players came out of the tunnel for the warm up, Bob Booker had the keeper jersey with number 1 on his back and he was practising in goal stopping the shots from going into the net. Very funny!

Osvaldo Ardiles wore the number 1 shirt for Argentina in the 1982 World Cup. He was number 2 in the 1978 World Cup, Norberto Alonso (who scored the first goal for River Plate against us) was number 1. The numbers were given by surnames in alphabetical order
