What are people’s thoughts of Sunday’s performance .Do the players get a pass for been clearly sad about the situation.Or are you in the camp of they are highly paid professionals who are employed by the club and still have to put a shift in ?

Personally I was really disappointed as I think the fans just as much as anyone are upset no matter what there opinion on the wilder situation. And where was the effort for the supporters and the shirt. They Will need to pull there heads out of there arses quick or they will take some almighty beatings between now and May.

It's a fair argument that they are professionals so shouldn't let off-field issues affect them. However they are also human, and it would be impossible for them not to be affected by the events of the previous 48 hours. The plans for the match were interrupted and they only found out the night before who was going to be in the dug out for that fixture. Wilder was also more than just a football manager for many of those players. 7 of the 11 players who started the game will credit Wilder with giving them the best days of their career, and will never live up to the highs which he gave them again. They were bound to be hurting and upset by his departure, and to focus on a meaningless game so soon after what has happened before must be difficult.

Human emotions are always going to impact players. Confidence irregardless of what people think or how much players earn does impact players. It’s idiotic to think otherwise

im willing to give them a pass for Sunday because they will be as shocked and saddened as we are of the situation.

That said - these players have all underperformed for 12 months and barely any have been above say a 6 out of 10. They have all performed worse than they have proved they can do - so getting smashed isn’t exactly a surprise. At some point some professional pride must come into it and someone / anyone needs to step up.

As I have said in another post Players are professionals but they are also humans To them Wilder was Sheffield United, the reason they came to the club and the manager that has given them a chance to play at the highest level and have some success that most would not have had a chance of but for Wilder. They would not have known what was going on and Hecky said because of COVID bubbles he didn’t speak to the team until Sunday. I bet for some it felt like a bereavement. Once the first goal went in their heads well and truly went. We want “heart on your sleeve” type of players and that’s what we got on Sunday. I’m not going to criticise them for that in that one match. Now they as a group with new leadership have to move forward but it’s not going to be an easy ride

Some might have been thinking about cup “glory” and put even less effort in against a team who l’m sure Ratboy will have fired up about handing a thrashing out.
Whike we gave Wilder camps and Prince camps, the players as a whole are getting a relatively easy ride. Ampadu had a poor game on Sunday but still put in far more effort than most. Lack investment, stubborn manager, and too many gutless players.

They all get a pass from me. For 48 hours i could think of little else, my lad (who is 17) has cried about it on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He’s been home and away for 10 years and understandably loved the connection that Wilder brought back between club and fans. Imagine the atmosphere if we’d been in the ground on Sunday, it would have made the post Ched match at MK seem positively raucous. It’s unrealistic not to expect the players to feel the same, irrespective of professionalism.

Now we have to look forwards and we need strong characters to lead us both from the staff and the squad. As much as we’re hurting too they need to feel our support and know that when we get back in the ground we’ll be fully behind them, unequivocally! As supporters we have a huge role to play, look how widely acknowledged it has been that our absence has hurt us more than any other team. Think back to pre Wilder at the end of the Adkins era and how toxic that was. The difference can be huge.

We’re expecting the board, staff and players to move on and give their all. We need to find our way individually and collectively to do the same. “We are Bladesmen from the Lane!”

They haven’t done it for Wilder this season though. Which beggars, yet again, the question, how did Lundstram keep getting selected? The no one else argument only goes so far as he was already a lazy square peg in a round hole, performing miserably week in week out.

Billy Sharp's reaction post match about his teammates performances said it all.

It was pathetic. No, they don't get a pass from me.

They embarrassed themselves. Again.

To give just one example, I don't think Kean Bryan can use Wilder's departure as an excuse for losing the ball in his own penalty area 4 times in the same half.

Absolutely spot on with that assessment.
I've said it times over on this board it's called passion, which CW and most of the squad, and we the Faithful have in abundance. Fire a bullet through the heart of that passion and everyone and everything is affected.
What happened, happend because of the events of Friday/Saturday. The trick now is how to react and get over it. UTB

I'll pay more attention to how they react against Chelsea. They'll have had longer to process what's happened and will have spent some proper time with Heckingbottom & co.

Let's not forget they only found out Chris was definitely leaving as they were getting the coach down to Leicester.

Win, lose or draw, I hoped to see a fired up "this one is for you boss" type performance. What I saw instead was a "well if I didn't know what I was doing before, I sure as ****ing hell don't now".

It wasn't exactly tools down, as some have suggested, but considering we had 3 players out there who have all had the armband to varying degrees under WIlder, the lack of on-field leadership was alarming.

It was also clear 2nd half that they couldn't wait to get off the pitch. Hard to blame them for that I suppose.

I have calmed down a bit now, and will put this one down to shellshock. But they better pull their heads out of the arses for the remaining matches. Wilder is gone, but they are still here, getting paid and playing for us.

That performance wasn’t really that much worse that usual this season, so no they don’t get a free pass for Sunday and more importantly this season.

Massive clear out required!

For me it highlighted Chris's legacy and his main attribute, that is to say he consistently got bang-average lower league footballers to punch above their weight.

The lack of the psychological effect of having the crowd driving them on has horribly exposed their individual and collective shortcomings.

It's unlikely that a new manager will be able to restore the pride and passion any time soon, so yes unfortunately we do need a wholesale clearout.

If Egan and Berge both move on in Summer that leaves Rammers, Jack and Bogle playing an innovative new constantly overlapping 1-1 formation unless we bring some decent players in

I'd suggest a considerable clear out rather than massive, having said that you're not wide of the mark as it could amount to at least a third of the squad

I wouldn't rely too hard on "do it for the fans" for motivation - remember that most of the fan interaction these players have had for the past year is with social media trolls sliding into their DMs to provide personal insults and jibes. It's been a long time since they've felt the backing of a full Bramall Lane and I wish there had been a way to remind them of our support this year.

No free pass from me we have seen a lot of those sort of sloppy performances the difference was Leicester didn't take their foot off the gas at 2-0 like other teams have done. That hammering has been coming for a while and if things don't change there will be a few more when we come up against teams who need to improve their goal difference.

Whilst I understand the circumstances were difficult for the players, the performance by everyone other than Ramsdale was a complete disgrace and unacceptable. We know we lack quality but the lack of effort was sickening to watch and unfortunately it says a fair bit about the lack of character of some of them.

Next Sunday and the remaining matches will identify who have pride in themselves and in their profession and who, if any, should leave.

There were two major flaws on Sunday (amongst a good few others).

Firstly, the lack of basic defending with people not getting tight to their players, giving Leicester players the space of the entire park to stroll around in abs pick their passes. The defence was all over the place, the Utd midfield wasn't tracking the Leicester midfield runners, Bryan didn't know where he was half the time and was usually stood about 10 metres off his man, and there was no closing down on the edge of our area. Look at the goals again and see just how many are invited to shoot or are completle unmarked. What did Billy say... Numerous goals came from 3 or 4 passes and it was in our net. He knows the simple truth that collectively we made it so easy for them and lack of basic defensive skills was alarming.

Secondly, where were the leaders? Who was going around banging a few heads together, handing out the bollocking and coaching the younger ones who were all in a right flap. No one stood up to the plate and expected Billy, Norwood or Fleck or any one more senior to stand up and show some leadership. We got fuck all and it was like a mass panic on the pitch. Utterly pathetic.

Now CW leaving is one thing and I can understand emotions and not being at the races, but fuck a doodle doo, come on. That was totally unacceptable and could have been double figures.if we had played for another 20 mins it probably would have been. The defence and midfield cover is the first problem to sort out asap, then we can move onto the next question figuring out how we can muster a shot on target.

They shoukld have been ashamed of themselves for that shit show from a professional pride perspective.

At least Billy totally understood.

Psychology is really important in sport, whatever you are getting paid.

Chris Wilder's greatest strength as a manager is recognising the psychological state of his players and finding the right thing to do to change it.
Like the crates of beer on the way back from Gillingham, or the roasting he gave Hendo after the Liverpool mistake.

Losing him like that when they are so low anyway will have been a psychological earthquake.

Hope Paul and Alan can get them back on their feet by Sunday

I think the farce over the press conference before the game probably says enough about what the preparation for the game must've been like. They get a "pass" on losing, I suppose, given that Leicester are where they are in the table and we've already lost enough times to worse teams. The thing that bothered me was that it was the first time I think I've seen them give up like that. We all knew the game was over at 1-0, we knew it was really over at 2-0, but they threw in the towel and accepted turning it into a battering. I expect a bit more pride than that.

They were no worse on Sunday than they were at Fulham, twice v Southampton and in many other games this season. We got thumped because the system is shit, there is no midfield, several key players are injured, etc, not in my view because they were missing CW - it was the same shambles when he was here.

Dont think that "recognising the psychological state" worked this season sadly, and its Mlilwall
