It will be interesting to see how the player ratings play out for the Reading game.

On balance 7 or 8 players should get a lower rating than for the Leeds game but I suspect that won't happen. Billy saved a few players a roasting tonight

After Leeds game there were folk saying Stearman better than Egan what utter bollox. Egan is very very good at this level. Defence was immaculate tonight.

But Sky got it right for me MOM Norwood. Just behind was Duffy, came on impetus improved no end.

The one thing about Bash is love him or dislike him, he is always involved and he is always 100%. I love him and we are definitely better when he plays.

UTB 3rd can't be bad.

I can’t believe that anybody doesn’t love owd Bash. He’d be the first name on my teamsheet and I suspect the same goes for Wilder.

Might be our best defensive performance of the season. Granted, Reading were very poor, but they got a number of crosses in and we snuffed out every single one. Very impressive.

Bash MOTM for me. Massive at both ends of the pitch.

I thought Egan has a few iffy moments which could have ended badly. Fleck was poor and Norwood wanted to Hollywood pass without always putting the effort in. We seemed to half-heartedly press at times and gave them far too much space outside our box. A good team would have punished us.

I thought Bash and Baldock were our best players.

reading were shocking.

1st half we were terrible and we got better after half time.

we played better, much better against leeds and lost

While Reading were poor, I think it’s right to point out that they’d only lost one game in their last five when they were unlucky to lose 1-0 at Leeds and missed a penalty, and they drew with Stoke and beat Bristol in those games.
Maybe we made them look even worse than they are?

Almost half way through the season now and we’re in 3rd place in the Championship on merit. We can’t really grumble much can we? UTB

All the defence 8 out of 10, Egan and Basham maybe 9, clean sheet. Even against a poor side to limit them to zero efforts on our goal was excellent.

Agreed . Readings current position belies some of the front line trickery they possess . I was pretty much certain they'd score tonight .

The only people who worried me tonight were McGoldrick, who I thought could have done so much better with the two clear chances and Fleck, who to me is way below last season's output.

Disappointed with Lundstram. Even against an poor outfit like Reading, he still looks one division below what we need in a midfielder.

Ye, we kinda set up that way. If you understand football and tactics, you let the opposition have that space if they're not very good at using it. Limit a team to long shots from outside of the box because they have noone who can whack em in. Also, it forces them wide, they put a ball in to McNulty who isn't going to do much against our defence.

I thought Egan and Bash were excellent, Norwood ran the game despite the poor conditions, Washington worked very hard up front, Duffy made Utd play 15 yards further forward which Reading weren't comfortable with and Sharp was in the right pace at the right time (as usual).

Despite his quite abysmal finishing, I thought McGoldrick played well - he won a lot in the air, held the ball up well and linked play - I'd like you see him play in the Duffy role with 2 strikers ahead of him to reduce the reliance and him having to score.

Don't get me wrong this isn't a grumble about the blades, I think we are doing great. If it's a grumble at all , it's about the reactionary views on here at times.

I was shocked when I looked at the player ratings for last week against Leeds, of the 15 people rated 11 got 5.xx or lower meaning bottom end average or poor.

This was in a game where we played one of the best teams in the league, created 3 or 4 really good changes, had most of the possession (although I accept a lot of it wasn't really great quality ) and were terribly unlucky to lose. I thought it was a terrific game between two of the best teams in the league.

Last night we were bang average against a team in the relegation zone. Duffy, Bash and Sharp got us out of jail and no doubt the same players will be getting 7 , 8 and 9 .

Fleck needs a rest, or rather we need a rest from him. He’s been poor for quite a few games now.

Start up the Roller...

I'd argue the opposite. He seems to be slower and carrying a bit of extra weight. He's always been dicey after a break and plays his best when he's playing all the time. I assume over the next few weeks that there will be a fair bit of rotation.

I'd agree with you Pinchy, if it weren't for the 'step-up' that seems to happen when Duffy comes on, and I think Duffy needs Fleck as much as the other way round.

Until we get a player in who can play the Fleck role then he has to start for me, we don’t currently have him or will even be able to afford him in January either so we just need to hope Fleck gets back to his usual self very soon.

Agreed. Fleck was invisible in the first half bar that tackle but much better in the second, no coincidence that coincided with Duffy coming on IMO.

I know my footy and I thought Clarke was Motm
