Player of the Year Award

Don't leave us hanging, come on... names! :)
I know you don't want to know the nice ones. But Alan Kelly and his wife were lovely and stayed way longer than they had too. Also Nicky Marker was great. Mrs Norks was upset she hadn't won the football signed with all the players names. Unbeknown to her he got our address and a couple of weeks later a parcel arrived with a signed ball and a note from him. Class.
Paul Devlin was a dick. Arrived drunk and late halfway through the meal. Never interacted and left as soon as the meal was over.

Maybe it is just me but it feels like Gus hasn’t had as good a season as we would have liked. He’s in the top three players for the EFL award however for me, it feels like he can do great things but it also feels like a lot doesn’t come off and he doesn’t dominate games as you’d perhaps like him to.

If it wasn’t for injuries I think it would have been Souttar as Player of the Year and Arblaster as Young Player of the Year, which does highlight how well we’ve done really to be still in the mix this time around. I remember us going top, Coutts getting injured and us finishing 10th as we struggled to function without him. We might have gone up a year earlier if not for that.

It’s possibly a toss of a coin between Hamer and Cooper with an honourable mention to Burrows who has been a good addition. Souza has been good but he has been absent a fair bit recently, otherwise he’s also be in the conversation. Young player probably has to be Peck, though good to see Seriki start to emerge and Oné show that the pipeline hadn’t dried up.

Cooper
Peck
Gus free kick vs cov.

I'm going to get some hammer (Hamer) for this but for me, Gus flatters to deceive too often, on his day he's top class and is definitely a good player, however he gets booked stupidly too often and is guaranteed to miss 3 games a season because of bookings. He also gives the ball away far too much for a player of his ability.

I think he gets lauded because he will do something sublime that few players in the division can achieve and If we don't go up and someone comes in with £25-£30m I wouldn't be too annoyed if we sold him.

Cooper on the other hand has prevented a fair few Oxford/Millwall/Plymouth like results.

Young Player of the Year - Sydie Peck
Player of the Year - Michael Cooper.

I think with Harry Souttar we'd have been promoted and he'd have been a major reason and would've scooped the PoTY.

Other contenders:
Souza & Campbell have missed too much football.
Hamer has been pretty ill disciplined and form has been a bit inconsistent.

I don't think anyone else belongs in the conversation.

There's still time for heroes, but that would be my thoughts right now.

Peck
Peck
Campbell vs QPR

Could quite easily have gone for Cooper for POTY, but Peck for me has progressed incredibly this year. Thrust into the spotlight via a combination of a very promising display vs Wrexham, and injuries in midfield requiring his utilisation, and he has really stepped up to the plate, so to speak.

Other than the current lack of goals in his game, he's been absolutely superb. Crucial moments like his pass through for BBD to score against Middlesbrough have been the icing on the cake. He's now consistently a controlling, calming influence in the centre of the park (though he's certainly not shy of getting stuck in himself), while allowing others to take the spotlight in the form of goals/assists. I'm seeing signs of him becoming the type of player that Berge has gone on to become at Fulham - part of a pairing at the base of midfield, with licence to roam forward with or without the ball, to try and make things happen. When Arblaster gets himself back fit, he'll have a major battle on his hands to get a starting place now.

Agree largely with everyone on this.

Personal preference for me would be Cooper. Came in to the side and had an immediate what was it 7 or 8 clean sheets or something. I also believe he's largely responsible for our position. The amount of games he's had piss all to do and then is required to pull out a fantastic save from nowhere to make sure we get 3 points is plentiful.

Not part of it but a few honourable mentions for me. Souttar before he got injured, immediate fan favourite, very commanding, great player. Souza and Anel have had a fantastic turnaround too. When last season ended I'd have shipped them to whoever wanted them for free but they've picked their heads up and been great this season, just a shame Souza has missed so much.

Can't deny Hamer will likely win this but I think in terms of performance and consistency, Cooper wins it for me.

Tyrese Campbell would be the one to watch.

If he had a big play-offs campaign for us and chipped in with winning goals to get us promoted, then I think he could leapfrog everybody else.
I love the lads personality and he's been instrumental at the top of the pitch.

Cooper POTY - for consistency and calmness think he’s been great - Hamer has had higher highs but also annoying lows.
Peck YPOTY - In the absence of Blaster this is a really obvious one. He’s flourished this season and whilst Seriki’s emergence has been great, Peck’s been in virtually all season.
Rhian F Brewster/Tyrese F Campbell GOTY - both put the ball in the Wednesday net. Nuff said.

I hope we're not tinpot enough to vote the goals against Wednesday as GOTY, especially if they're ultimately meaningless.

Hamer's free kick against Coventry feels the most obvious to me, or possibly Campbells at QPR.
We've not been blessed with many screamers or team goals.

This seasons achievements are made more amazing given the important losses the club has suffered. So for that reason Gus's Maddy tribute goal against Derby has to be the one.

In my mind it's not even up for debate.

Cooper is our player of the year. Anyone else would be a very distant 2nd.

PoTY has to go to culture carrier and captain fantastic Robbo.

I'd pick Sydie Peck for player of the year. If he hadn't stepped up the way he has we wouldn't even be in the top 6 by now. Hamer is great but only turns up maybe one in 3 or 4 games.
