Foxy, Linz....a polite request

Anyone who mentions us and getting into the play-offs must be banned with immediate effect. I know not many on here have got carried away but there are plenty who are.

Lets just look at the facts. To snatch the last play-off spot would require between 71 and 76 points judging by the last 6 seasons, (with the exception of 2009-2010 season when it was 80) therefore we would have to win at least 11 but probably 13 of our last 15 games to stand half a chance.

We have to play 9 of those 15 against teams currently above us including the entire current top 6.

More importantly an average of 47 points has seen the 4th bottom team relegated over the last 5 seasons with 50 points sending Gillingham down in 09/10. Therefore more importance should be placed on winning 5 of our last 15 to guarantee safety....!

Yes we are on a great run and the Cup is a welcome distraction as safety seems an achievable target but lets not be stupid!

All anyone is bothered about now is did your 7 game accumulator come in last night??

Fuck the play offs. Win the Cup.
I've said this so many times about the League. We will at some time gain promotion.
Now the Cup is so much nearer and yes most still believe it is a dream too far, It is more realistic than the play offs.
Imagine the GLORY of a club from this division winning the greatest cup competition in the world???

tell you what - go and ask NC or the players if they have given up?

Highly unlikely it will happen, but I bet it is our recognised first team v MK on Saturday and if we do happen to win that then it will be the recognised first team again, perhaps with a subtle tweak on Tuesday v P'boro.

To stop chasing the 6th place is professional suicide and is cheating the fans, especially the magnificent away fans (ie last night) who follow the team.

Go for it and see where it leads - NC is in the same mould as his dad.

We really started turning the corner in December this season... When the FA Cup fired up and it's the FA cup that's excited us. So potentially three games in the cup we could have silverware.

It's not that easy of course but looks more likely than winning 11-13 games in the league!

But we have a really tough game on the weekend, so go into that game with our FA cup spirit, get at least a point and come home with no injuries or suspensions.

As the OP stated, let's get the safety of at least 50 points, we've reached mid table and now we just need to turn -5 GD into a '+'. Small gains...

That is actually very true especially if we went all the way to the final and got those bottlers Arsenal.

It it. 3 wins to win the FA Cup, given a favourable draw, a few shock results and hey presto. Certainly more likely than winning 11/12 out of 15 games and lots of other games going our way.

Have I wandered onto a parallel universe or summat?
Winning the Cup!
What are you guys on?

Just getting a Semi on would be a huge triumph for a team in Div 3 - it's the same number of games to win the cup for a Champ or Prem club given we started in the first round proper. ...and it aint gonna be easy. Charlton are no mugs, despite their lowly position in the Champ.

Win the fecking cup - :D

Go on then - I dare ya!

We're not talking about winning the cup out of expectation or realism. We're saying theres more chance of winning the cup than there is reaching the play-offs.

How you going to feel about The Charity Shield?

How you going to feel about The Charity Shield?

Actually - my view on the Charity Shield is that it should be completely scrapped :(
It used to be an event to raise money that the FA could put into good causes.
It was a pre season show piece and celebrated last years triumphant winners

Far from it nowadays. With the advent of the obscene amounts of money that the FAPL get from TV rights they ought to shell out a decent enough chunk of that to support the good causes they should be supporting and forget the Charity Shield. As it stands - they make the fans pay for yet another trip to Wembley, charge a stupid amount for the ticket and pocket a load of the proceeds to put towards the MASSIVE cost of that shite white elephant of a stadium they could have built for a fraction of the price.

Ken  not feeling very charitable at the moment owing to huge slices of avarice and hypocrisy at the FA

If they can carry on the February form into March & April I could see them finishing in the top 8, even 7th but catching Peterborough in 6th would take one heck of an effort. We're 14 points behind with 15 games remaining, we'd have to gain a point a game more than Posh to the end of the season to do it. 12 wins and 2 draws out of 15 would give us a chance but it's a massive ask.

Go out and win every game.

See where it takes us.

Win the two games in hand and we'd only be 10th :(

Take each game in isolation. Ignore every future game. Take the next in isolation etc etc. Just enjoy. Next season has the makings of bring a cracker UTB

If they carry on the feb form into march and april, then we will be comfortably in the playoffs:p:p:p:p:D

The solution is simple.

WIN, or try to win, every game that we play in, this season or the next, etc.

If we do WIN every game this season, we will win the FA Cup and be promoted via the Play-offs.

"What will be, will be".

..... and undoubtably none of the above will happen, but let's enjoy it while we can.

Torrix1889 - Please don't get me banned. I promise I wont mention United having a chance of the play offs. But. I have a question for you...

Q: MK Dons are 6pts off the play offs. Do you consider them to have a chance of making them?

If we beat them tomorrow, we are 5pts behind them with 2 games in hand. Dare to dream!!

it will take one of the best runs in the clubs history to get into the play offs , but we hadnt won at Villa in 50 years or more , and records are there to be broken
we are on 38 points with 15 games left so a maximum of 45 points
15 wins would give us 83 points

last place 6th going back 6 seasons have snatched 6th with
74.73 71 80, 76 76
so at best theres 12 points error of margin at worst 3
unlikely yes , impossible hell no

we could win every game be unlucky and just miss out or lose 4 and be lucky and sneak in

Sadly, the fact is we are having yet another wasted season, all talk of a great next season ignores what a shit season this one really is,despite the cup run.

But if Peterborough win at Crawley, we will still be 14 points away from the play offs with no games in hand. I think that is a more relevant stat than how far we are behind MK Dons.

The fact is we are still a lot nearer the relegation places than the play off places. Lets get to 55 points first (which is still a long way off), then see what's possible.

Things like this always make me laugh. Without winning every game you're assuming that the top six or seven will drop enough points for us to catch up.

It would be one of the all time miracles of football for United to make the playoffs.
