Looks very unlikely we will snatch second spot now.

If only KmC had acted sooner?

Anyway. Who do we want, if we somehow get this team to the final?

On the basis of the last two matches I would have to say we would rather have Swindon...

Feeling very negative about this prospect. Yeah Ok we battered swindon, but they were back with a bang last night destroying crewe. Yeovil have the on fire madden, Bournemouth have the on fire pitman and brentfords Donaldson made maguire look as fast as me.

I think we sometimes forget , we have in the past 16 seasons, since 1997 we have got to 6 play offs and had an automatic promotion, in every case finishing in the top 5 , so every other season competed at the right end of the table, disappointing as it may seem , its better than most of us under financed clubs, and law of averages say we will win a final one day

probably playoffs but interestingly donny have to go to Brentford on the last day and that won't be easy. if we have any chance we have to win 'all' our matches and seeing as we always flop the big occasion i think we won't make it..sorry

I still think there'll be a few more twists yet, don't forget the FGs will want us to sweat right up to the end.

Presuming the four stay as they are, I don't think it really matters. I would say Bournemouth and Brentford but whichever of the two doesn't make it they'll be on a downer, Swindon aren't that great, neither are Yeovil. The good thing is, we've discovered a bit of spirit and fight and I'd be a lot more confident going into the play-offs now than I was a week ago.

Back to the FGs, they won't be happy that KMac missed his 10th booking and will be sprinkling hamstring failure dust on him anytime soon.

What's the rule on 10 bookings? Is there a deadline that has now passed or will KMac be suspended if he gets another booking this season?

i dunno.. he's looking more mobile these days. he's even started shooting.. i'm assuming thats why he was taken off tuesday

actually that's a bit worrying.. he's only on a year contract isn't he??

Yeovil have already pasted us at home once though, remember!

Deano - Yes there was a booking amnesty this Weekend just gone. All bookings were wiped after that.

I think "very unlikely" is overstating it a bit.
It wouldn't take an extraordinary sequence of results for it to be back in our own hands.
Omly a win for us on Saturday and draws for Bournemouth and Brentford:-

One feature of recent seasons is that the teams around us (Wigan in 2007, Watford and I think Hull in 2008, Birmingham in 2009, Pigs last year) have always achieved what they needed on the last day. No other results have ever gone for us. I fully expect Doncaster and Bournemouth to be the same and not to make any mistakes.

2.Bournemouth
45
21
80
3. Brentford
45
16
79
4. Sheff Utd
44
19
77

I have to say it does look very unlikely. To go up we would have to win all our three remaining games and, have 2 of the following three happening:

1 Donacster getting no more than two points from their remaining 2 games;
2. Bournemouth getting no more than 4 points from their remaining 2 games (and if they get four our making up a current GD deficit of 4 (counting goals scored))
3. Brentford getting no more than 4 points from their remaining 2 games.

Of the remaining fixtures, Doncaster have nothing to play for Notts Co at H and Brentford A. I reckon they will win the former and lose the latter, which puts them out of reach.

Bournemouth have nothing to play for Carlisle at home and most likely nothing to play for and utterly demoralised (having looked likely to be promoted all season and now not even in the play offs) Tranmere away. I can't see other than two wins there.

Brentford have relegated Hartlepool away and Doncaster home. Given their crap away form I reckon a draw in the first and a win in the latter.

That would leave the table, if we win all 3 (itself a tall order)

1, Bournemouth 85
2. Doncaster 85
3. United 83
4. Brentford 82

Sorry :-(

I've thought all along that 85 points will get automatic promotion. As much as i want us to take it to the last day and hold onto hope that automatic promotion is still a possibility, if we are going to be play off bound id rather know that automatic is out of reach at the end of play on saturday as opposed to a final day heartbreak.

We do need to win all three I accept that. Doing that would (probably) take care of the goal difference.
IF we do it would just require one of your predicted wins for Bournemouth or Donny to be a draw.
I'll wait until Saturday before I rule it out as a possibility.

I'm not ruling it out as a possibility, just saying its very unlikely - maybe a 5-10% chance?

Well United won't do it but I'm not sure we'll deliver 83 points.

I actually think Brentford will do it. They have the advantage of kicking off after everyone else on Saturday, so they'll know exactly what they need to achieve from that game and then set themselves up to beat Doncaster on the last day.

I'm told there is a chance Brentford and Doncaster could finish on the same points, same goal difference and same goals scored ! Does this mean another playoff game to decide who goes up ?

we wont catch bournemouth, who can really see them not beating carlisle at home then tranmere away? carlisle are safetranmere will almost certainly be out of the play off fight and have nowt to play for. bournemouth are easily the best team in the league right now too.

only very slim chance is catching donny. they arent that great at home, so could slip up at home to notts county. unlikely, cos notts county are in nothing to play for cruise mode, but not entirely impossible. then they could easily not win at brentford too.

but even then we would finish behind brentford unless they somehow didnt win at hartlepool (unlikely, but it is hartlepools last home game and theyve found a bit of fight despite realistically being relegated for months) or drew with donny.

i cant see us winning at portsmouth or crewe anyway. portsmouths last home game, bound to be emotional and want to put up a fight. and crewe are a decent team.

play offs (fuchs ache) anybody but brentford or yeovil for me. first off youd have to be happy if somehow orient, walsall or (miracle needed) tranmere or crawley got in there. but swindon id be happy with too. but thinking about it i would much rather face brentford or yeovil in the semis than in the final. badly need to get 3rd of 4th for that home 2nd leg. brentford or yeovil, 2nd leg at home then if we get through pray to meet swindon or one the less likely sides in the final. or even doncaster. id fancy us much more against donny at wembley than brentford or yeovil.

What's this obsession with thinking Yeovil are a good team because they aren't. I was very unimpressed with them and let's face it we handed them victory on a plate. They have had a good run and have over achieved which is why they lost to Oldham and were soundly beaten at home by Swindon. Hopefully under Morgan we would not do the same. In addition the Lane was so quiet that night they must have thought they were playing at home, now it's a force to be reckoned with again!

i think at wembley the big pitch would suit them better than us, plus i think theyd 100% get up for it and we pretty much know we wont cos we never do. id obviously much rather play them in the semis than brentford though. but id much rather play brentford in the semis than the final. id really like brentford to get top 2 (if we dont) so we can avoid them all together.

The table says they are. They have one of the best strikers in this league in Madden and beat us soundly at home. How did we hand it to them? Because Long messed up? That's not them being overrated, that's us being shit.

Exactly - we handed it to them by playing shit.
