He's got to start ahead of lundstram the boys class on the ball so what hes not 6ft 3

I don't know. Is he good enough defensively? He can hold the ball, is that the main thing we need? I mean, Coutts isn't exactly a midfield destroyer anyway.

Lundstram could do with a run of games and I reckon he'd be extremely solid. He was okay last night, definitely not his fault.

I don't know what the best option is. But our manager will find it.

Curruthers is a good option off the bench but if Duffy is not on all cylinders at the moment then I wouldn't mind seeing him start instead.

A midfied of:

Lundstrum - Fleck
Carruthers

I think Lundstrum is more of a “bread and butter” player. More solid and consistent.
Where as Carruthers is more of a “fancy dan” player, a bit like his mate Baldock, very talented with tricks and flicks.

I’d probably edge towards Carruthers because he’s got more flair and is pleasing on the eye.

However Wilder probably thinks that with the creative Duffy in midfield we need more steel and solidity in midfield.
Hence why he’s going for the safer option of Lundstrum which is fair enough.

different roles within the team......Carruthers did really well last night.....but he is competition for Duffy not Lundstram. Lundstram did okay.......he needs more time and support

It seems that myself and Wilder watched a different game to some people last night as we both thought that Lundstram had a decent game

Also thought Lundstrum was decent last night, not great but certainly not poor.
I’ve no complaints, he’s a solid player with good allround ability

It’s just that he doesn’t have the class of Coutts or the skill and dribbling talent of Carruthers.
It’s early days so far. Many wrote off Coutts and Leon, so no one should write off Lundstrum yet.
I’ll go with whatever Wilder decides, he knows best.

I can recall after seeing him play 45 minutes at Eastleigh, somebody called JL the new Dean Hammond

Lundstram by a mile.
Unfair to compare the two imo.
Thought Lundstram did ok last night, which is a huge step up on my initial opinion of him.
Carruthers started off by giving the ball away but went on to be very influential in our fight back. I think his good points way outweigh his foibles.
I'd maybe try Fleck in the Coutts role and give Samir a start in the Fleck role.

Im not slating lundstram i want him to do well as i do any player, but i dont see how people say he had a good game or would start him ahead of any of the other choices.
I though the game passed him by he didn't do anything other than a couple of decent tackles.

Carruthers is miles better on the ball and dribbling with the ball so what hes not built like coutts.

I see carruthers as a very very similar player to fleck , and id rather have two flecks than a fleck and a bad coutts in midfield

Lundstram was solid if not spectacular last night but did pass it well! Carruthers is seen as a Duffy replacement so is Brooks. The loss of Coutts is highly likely to be filled with the signing of Leonard in January which will make us solid and give us more dynamism

Lundstrum for me.

I think a midfield three of Fleck, Duffy and Carruthers lacks balance and would get bypassed too easily.

Carruthers is great on the ball and good at running with it and being direct, but in a deep midfield role where there is bound to be more bodies I think he would struggle to make an impact.

He can also be a bit of a liability off the ball and loses focus letting opposition midfielders run behind him.

Carruthers suits the Duffy role. Unluckily for him barring last night Duffy has been outstanding.

Lundstrum had a decent game last night. The tackle he made right before our second seemed to give him a confidence boost as he grew as the game went on.

Let's not forget that he's a 23 year old making only his 3rd (I think) start for a new team. One of those was against walsall in which he wasn't playing with our first 11.

Excellent, saved me typing out my opinion. :)

Sorry but dont see how you see this i cant remember him touching the ball more than 5 times the entire match the game completely passed him by

We need a player to make the ball stick in midfield and keep possession. Lundstram would be the perfect midfield king pin in a Dave Bassett team. He chooses to get the ball forward too early for this team.

Lundstram is better off the ball, and carruthers is far better with the ball. Just about finding the right balance. I’d like to see fleck/carruthers/Duffy or fleck/carruthers/brooks but don’t think it’ll happen

I clearly remember a 40 yard volleyed pass crossfield to feet. Last night was the best I have seen him play in a blades shirt. He is definitely getting better in the role and he has massive shoes to fill. But he had a presence in a midfield where we barely touched the ball at times.
