I know it is a bit early to post this, especially since the summer transfer window ended less than 2 weeks ago.

But would be interesting to see what people think we need to do in January, incomings, departures etc.

Here's my list of essential things we need to prioritise:
  • Striker to compete with Moore
  • Cover at CB, with Trusty gone we are light there
  • LW, but Rak-Sakyi could cover this position as he is left-footed

What I would like to see:
  • Try and get Souttar as a permanent signing, his career is clearly going nowhere at Leicester and i reckon would come here permanent given the chance
  • Sachdev, Oné, Hampson all out on loan, hopefully get them half a season of consistent first team football
  • The above also applies to Marsh and Peck, unless come January they are better off being in and around our first team squad which is possible, certainly in Peck's case.
Anyway, as usual I've waffled on for long enough, be interesting to know what other people think we should prioritise in January.

Plans….
1- announce (or let out via the unofficially route via you know who) that the club is being sold to an unnamed buyer/buyers.
2- tell Wider to say very little
3- sign one or two and sell to make a profit overall.
4- Only get new players once we’ve sold and cost the team a few games while we drag our heels to get said players in the last few days of the window.

The rebuild next summer will be huge if wew don't go up because we will lose Souza Anel Hamer and possibly Blaster. Three loans go back and Robinson & Brewster out of contract. Plus there is always the surprise leaver! That is a lot of bodies to replace We would make it easier if we signed a couple of permanents in January.

Still too exhausted to think about it having just come out of the other one… come back in 2 months!

Yeah Jan transfer plans could well be more about who we are transferring out as opposed to transfers in?

Pessimistic view but two things may influence it which is whether we are in with a chance of going up and second if any bids meet our valuations

The other side of the coin could be if we do get new owners they might take a different view?

I think some of those you mention for loans, it wouldn’t hurt for them to have a bit of a stint in non-league playing against men.

This bears no relation to what happened in the last window, in which we got rid of all the dead wood, made some excellent signings, and kept our best players. It’s all in your head.

We had spent everything we had available. We would need sales before incoming.

Loaning out the young players on loan won’t add up to a championship players wages.

We need investment before there can be any talk of plans.

1 loan spot for a striker
1 loan spot for anyone in starting 11 we sell

If we sell more than 1 player from starting 11 then use funds from combined sales to bring in someone with enough quality to slot straight into starting lineup.

Can't really see us doing much more business than that unfortunately... even with us being so light in depth.

I think we "kept our powder dry" in the summer.

I think Wilder wanted Mepham, Cannon and one of the LW that went elsewhere. Rather than panic and pick up anyone to fill a place we carried on with what we had with the kids as back-up and some players hopefully coming back from injury.

I do expect us to pick up some players in Jan (like we have been surprised with in the past) if we are in contention.

well it sounded like we had deals for cannon johnstone and mepham but the rug was pulled those 3 would have been very handy additions

True Newbury but I don't know if it's the mentality of being a Blade but we always seem to be one or two windows away from a complete tear down.

The last window was very good and only soured by not bringing in the likes of Cannon to add to our depth at the very end of it.

If we stay near the top, we will be fine in January as the Prince has showed b4 he will keep players if he thinks we can go up. We have to assume the parachute payments mean we can cover our ongoing costs this season so hopefully there are no defaults to suppliers or other clubs.

The time to worry will be if we don't go up and there's no takeover as the reduce parachute payments and player ambition will result in some painful departures in the summer

Don't think we can predict anything that might happen in January with this take over hanging over our heads . If we have new owners we would hopefully be in a position to splash the cash if we are still in a state of uncertainty God knows what could be the outcome . So we could be splashing the cash or selling the crown jewels . All this cloak and dagger stuff is getting right on my tits ,are we or are we not being bought over? It will be a relief one way or the other to know something be it bad or good .

Point 1 based on previous might do
Point 2 see point one
Point 3 is true
Point 4 Also true and if the price had been what we wanted Souza Anal and Hamer would be gone

In a perfect world, we will:

1 - Sign another striker as competition/backup to Moore;
2 - Sign 2 natural left wingers, likely right foot dominant to mirror the right wing;
3 - Sign another keeper as backup to Cooper to replace Davies;
4 - Sign a natural RB to prepare for Gilchrist's return to Chelsea;
5 - Not sell any of our key talents (Hamer/Blaster etc.).

But it's us ain't it? So instead it'll be signing Trusty back on loan, and rumours about 6 or 7 more (who all end up going to Leeds instead)

Apart from there was no money to strengthen at the end of the window despite Wilder saying that was the plan.

Even if they expected outgoing(s) to fund those, it still means without any takeover, it could well be sales before incomings.

Don't sell any of our starting 11 in January have we not learned a thing it has never helped us once.

I can make stuff up too.

I'm stunned you've mentioned a keeper and two wingers but no CB or CM!

The very clear priority for January is to recruit a top quality attacker

CF or left sided forward, loan or permanent, domestic or foreign

We need to be working hard on this because it will probably be the difference between top 2 or play offs

Keeping key players is also vital obviously, and we should also look to recruit another strong CM

Agree with all that apart from Peck.

He needs to stay here.

Seriously, if the takeover is not sorted by then, I am just hoping that we avoid a fire sale! So I’d be more than happy to be able to keep all the players we currently have.

I think most clubs use the JTW to either.
-Pre sign players with 6 months remaining on thier contracts
-Fill in gaps due to injuries
- Desperately avoid relegation

On that basis I hope it's a very quiet window

Don’t sell Ahmedhodzic, Hamer, Souza or Arblaster.

Anything beyond this would be a bonus.

But that will be the test.

Hopefully we are flying and can commit to that. Two newly promoted teams next up. Need for the above to be ruthless.
