The gaffers reluctance to try and change systems after we get to nearly Christmas with a solitary point on the board, is starting to appear as either illogical or sheer bloody stubborn mindedness on his part.

Change it, mix it up, we don't have to scrap the current set up, but neither do we need to have it set in tablets of stone. A big part of the way our system worked was the attacking centre halves Bash n O'Connell. Now that we have lost 50% of that threat, the opposition just double up on Bashs side when we look to attack. Hence sod all threat going forward

Also, would it be too much to ask our midfield to try and compete for possession of the ball each game? they seem to meekly surrender this at kick off each match which in turn means our full backs don't get chance to get up the pitch. Possession stars clearly show we don't have enough of the ball. The gaffer can say what he likes, but he cannot argue with stats week in week out.

I mentioned it on another thread the other day but i think the biggest issue with changing the system is at CB.
I’m unsure if we have 2 CBs capable of playing PL standard in a back 4.
Basham was woeful there under Clough, and Brentford fans couldn’t believe their luck when we spent £4m on Egan, who they have largely only seen play in a back 4, not a back 5.

I'd agree with you normally, but we have one point from twelve games. We're at a point where a random suggestion from a fan would be unlikely to be worse than what we're doing.

Yes the sheet audacity of those 'fans' who dare to go onto a football forum and say what THEY think, and what THEY would like to see happen/change. It's totally immoral. It almost as if they have walked into the boardroom at a board meeting and told everyone there just how shit they all are and how the manager is a dumpling. Anyone expressing their thoughts on here are well out of order. Some on here would say.

Its ironic that you mention the real world, given the people who spend all day talking to each other on shout box actually believe they know more about managing a football team than Chris Wilder

If the system is working then god forbid what it looks like when it doesn't.

Mentality has to change above all else. When we came back from lockdown against Villa, Newcastle and Man Utd, we were shite and didn't score a goal in any of them but they turned it around and won 3 from the next 4. Beating Chelsea, Spurs and Wolves doesn't just happen by accident, you've got to be a good side to get anything out of them.

Every time we lost, we came back fighting in the next game but that's all gone now - why? That's a question for Chris Wilder to find the answer to.

We have to start playing to our strengths and weaknesses

Strengths:
Striker heavy squad with a wage range of different abilities/playing styles
Solid CB's in Egan, Ampadu and Bash
A talented midfield in Berge/Fleck
Consistent WB/FB's (Stevens/Baldock).

Weaknesses:
We currently have no natural overlapping LCB for our system
The left side is generally weak.
No Central attacking midfield players
Lacking creativity
Our playmaker is easily pressed out of the game (Norwood)
Little attack threat
Our squad is only used to playing in a back 3

with this in mind, i would go with a narrow 5-2-3 with our central defender (Bash) underlapping having license to link the midfield and outer defenders with more traditional CB roles. And then we can then chop and change our front three dependent on the game, for example when we expect more possession, play Didzy and McBurnie as deep lying players either side of centre forward, or when we're counter attacking we can play deeper with Burke/Mousset as wingers with a deep lying centre forward, similar to Wolves/Liverpool tactics.. For example...

Agreed, so we've got two options, either start planning for next season in the Championship now or sack the manager and see if a fresh voice in the dressing room makes a difference (probably unlikely to keep us up, but it would be nice to win a match or two this season)
