Plan B

And yet we still drew 0-0
So maybe he needed longer on the pitch than 19 minutes. Games are for 90 minutes. And Duffy should have gone off not David? As David is brilliant in what I call the old no 10 position as he played there extremely well at Ipswich. But I wouldn't criticise Chris for this as he's got Duffy's fan club behind him in kip end of the South Stand.

I noticed they couldn't cope with Leon when he came on having to giving away free kick as yanking him about. So his height & strength did rattle them.

Kind of. You’re right in that we got those free-kicks. But the change in our overall play was negative I thought – we seemed to be less dominant in possession after the change, as McGoldrick was constantly dropping off to get the ball. Thought he and Sharp both work well.

For me we lack someone to come on and build on what’s worked in a game. Often we change things and it seems to be at a cost of something that was working.

So, we need:

Brooks, or someone like Brooks
Someone like Michael Brown
Nuhiu
A really good striker
Usain Bolt, or someone else with pace

Yes, well.

For all the possesion we rarely troubled their keeper. Plan a works well but sometimes we need to be more direct and get more shots away. Also backheels in the box like freeman did in the 2nd half are better at 3 nil up than 0-0. On the flanks we had plenty of xhances to put the ball in that we didnt take and the number of times sharp was out wide with nobody in the box was frustrating. In midfield Duffy, Fleck and Norwood are so much better than their midfield players but none of them really took control, asked for the ball in dangerous areas or took chances regularly. I only recall one shot from fleck. Those three should be capable of 20 to 30 goals a season between them but we'll be lucky if they get 10.

We had Johnson sat on the bench and dare I say it Washington. Neither has done much yet but both have pace and 15 minutes from the end I would have been tempted to put someone who would get in behind their defence more often.

I wanted Johnson on tonight.

The problem is who to take off?

After McGoldrick is off, you either have to take Sharp off or alter the team dynamic.

Johnson for Duffy wouldn't have been right, nor would changing the formation at that tight, late stage.

We need Peter Crouch, did us dirty when he came with Stoke, caused absolute havoc

We need one, similar to what we needed in January in league one. Simply cannot be not beating shit like that because they’ve put 11 behind the ball for 90 minutes. We penned them in for about 85 of the 90 minutes and couldn’t score.

I don’t know what our plan b should be but it needs to be some SERIOUS height (not James Hanson) or some SERIOUS pace. Something a bit different to our current crop, the type who can make a real impact off the bench because that’s where we’re lacking at the moment in these types of games.

It’s their first clean sheet of the season for fucks sake. I’m gutted, I assume most of us are. Everyone was a 7/10, not a single 8 or above.

Such a shame. Scruffs are going off like they’ve won the league again. Cunts.

It’s the first clean sheet we’ve had in a while too, but yes we need an alternative plan
They’ve had a nil nil win but they’re closing in on a bottom 3 position so don’t worry fuckem

Plan B is really Plan A, but with a couple of better players. The crowd can see it & of course so can CW & AK & I am sure that work is going on in the background to bring about that change, but it will not happen until Jan at the earliest & maybe more realistically for the start of next season, so we just have to keep working at it until then.
Mind you, can you imagine just how good we would be when we start converting more chances, they might have to invent a new league above the Premier League! ;)

Johnson for Duffy wouldn't have been right, nor would changing the formation at that tight, late stage.

Johnson for Stevens would have been the probably justifiable equivalent of Done for Lafferty in the L1 season when we struggled to break down teams that parked the bus. Would have happily seen that this evening over the change that was made.

Would it not be better to aim for someone better rather than get someone who couldn’t even get in the team that Wednesday put out tonight?

If we signed Nuhiu it would be about 5 mins before many are saying we should have signed someone better

If we signed Nuhiu it would be so that he could offer the vol au vents in hospitality.

Yes, well.

Actually Steve I would like one player with the attributes of all of the above.

Let’s be honest, goals apart we were brilliant and on another day the pen goes in and they have to play us at our game, we all knew what they were going to do so relax..

We’re just deflated because they were there to be smashed and yet another chance has gone at the lane to embarrass them..

Want a positive? Jos keeps his job and they still pay £50 notes to watch that shit.. and celebrate a point like it’s the world to them, my god they have fallen so low, they are heading for league one this season or next, no doubt about it..

We pasted them to be fair. If we had scored that dubious penalty nobody would be going ape

I'm not sure a plan b is necessary when we absolutely dominated and missed a penalty.

Dominating a shit pig side doesn’t put 3 points on the board if we don’t score,

I feared a long punt up top on the counter and a pig goal all night, plan A didn’t result in a goal so a plan B has to be executed to beat a back 11 bus-parked team

Onto the next 1
UTB

We do need a plan B but we need to remember plan A.

Things that work:

Through balls
Byline low crosses to 6 yards out
Back post early crosses
Driven in crosses from free kicks
Cutting in from the edge of the box to shoot
Strikers in the box

Things that rarely work:

Quick free kicks
Short corners
Faffing about on the wing
Slowing down play by doing stepovers unnecessarily
Having wing backs in the box where the strikers should be

We always seem to abandon ideas, they come back a couple of games later, but just stick to what works until it doesn't.

A lot of truth in this. I think as Chris has said, perhaps the truth is that on occasions we just lack that something a bit extra that top premiership clubs find to break down that kind of performance from the opposition. I think this team is playing close to it's maximum ability and needs some quality adding in January if we want to sustain our challenge.

good times though , lets be happy :-)

Pace would not have worked because they were so deep and compact. Needed to get better crosses to strikers who needed to be smarter in finding space. Wilder is right we are a good side on an improving trend. Quality Striker and attacking midfielder in Jan should make for a very good end to season. How much more a thrilling prospect than desperately relying on parking the bus

We did everything but score and had 75% possession. It’s daft to say but we did everything but score

When a team parks the bus like that there’s not much you can do.

We had chances, we passed the ball beautifully and we had some shots from distance

Plan B would be to back off and catch them on the counter, but they didn’t even want to come out!
