For me the Villa away game. As I sat there staring into space in sheer disbelief I and many others thought that this was a season defining moment in a negative way. The way the team bounced straight back and with so many clean sheets just shows what this club is all about these days, remarkable achievement from Wilder, Knill and the playing squad.

Agree the Villa game was the jolt they needed. A reminder that you can play as well as anyone but switch off for one minute and it can all go to shit.

Other than that I maintain that beating Leeds how we did and the way they imploded that day inflicted a huge psychological blow on them. I don't think they recovered.

One thing that I can recal is 'it's in your blood' saying that this could be a good thing and help kick on our season.

The West Brom game I thought we might find out we couldn't really compete with the big money players other teams have, instead we went there and won.

I also said, in my infinite wisdom, that you'd have to back whoever came through the Leeds game on top. Not saying I didn't doubt myself after the Bristol or Millwall games, but overall we've been superb since then.

Every time we have hit a wall this season we have smashed through it the next game, so every time we have not won has been a turning point for me to the point where this unit is mentally strong enough.

I knew after the Millwall game we would go on and win out (ok still Stoke to go) because that's what this team does.

It was definitely the non penalty v derby on mcgoldrick ,it seemed to.spur us on to beat a top 6 side which if you all remember was getting to be a bit of a sticking point. We were dominating games and getting sucker punched and that was the pattern of that game up to then .there were ups and downs after that but that was when the players showed me that THEY thpught they could compete with any one at that level

Villa away: despite throwing away two points we showed that we had a pattern of play away from home that could get points at difficult grounds. It proved that our January business had given us a new depth and tactical flexability. With an horrendous run of difficult away games on the horizon, and only play off form in the pre January 'easier' away games, this was imperative. If we'd had this squad since August we'd have been toasting promotion in March or early April imo.

Millwall. Though very late in the season, going into the final games it told them you can't sit and defend a one goal lead.

I'm sure there are many examples which can be cited as defining our season.....mine would be twofold -

(1) the moment our defence began to take shape, it's been a tower of strength from the very beginning and, with the rare exception, we've not allowed opposing attacks the chance since this game to score too many goals.

(2) after drawing at Villa, many on here had a meltdown of extreme proportions. The team showed enormous strength of character after this game, and since then we've been in impressive form.....fast forward to yesterday's game!

I had to take my lad to the flicks while that was going on. It pretty much happened over the same two hours. ((SPOILERS!)) We went to see The Kid Who Would Be King and just as the film was reaching its crescendo it was the last 5 minutes of the game. Cue confused kids and parents when I cry an only partially muffled "FUCKIN' GET IN!!!!" Thankfully it coincided with some dragon getting killed or something so those around us thought I was just REALLY into the film.

Great seasons are made of random little memories like that.

Leeds away for me lose that one and we would have been 5 points behind ,we won which took us to 2nd,put the pressure back on Leeds ok they went in front again but the gap was never more than three and as I say we coped with the pressure better than them.
In more ways than one history has repeated itself,although there is a different football ethos under Wilder Bassett's team had all the other ingreadiant that are needed to see a successful outcome (1990 Harries blades ).
My wife was pregnant with our daughter who was born later that year,this time our daughter is having her first baby in July that's a remarkable coincidence
she is a big blade and a season ticket older like her old man ,what a year this is turning out to be.

That and the massive period of wba, boro and Norwich unbeaten with a makeshift defence for me. That set us up for a proper run in.
