Whilst watching the grass grow in the pitch update videos (which I have enjoyed seeing the progress) my eyes wandered onto the John Street stand and the Family Corner (not sure which sponsor is currently affiliated with it). I noticed some of the seats are going a faded shade of pink and even some of them appeared to be getting to the stage of white - I just wondered if the fact could be raised (i assume the higher powers are aware) and more importantly if they had a plan or strategy to change the seats??

They changed the colour of the kit to match the seats

Why do we have to have red seats?

Our colours are red, white and black, or at least they used to be. Red fades faster than anything else, I don't know why but red paint on cars bleaches very quickly and seemingly plastic chairs do too.

So why not black seats? or we could use white, there is no danger of them fading.

btw, it would look much better if we didn't bother trying to write anything like a mosaic across them. Barcelona's 'more than just a club' (in Catalan) looks OK, it has meaning and the size of the stadium and numbers of seats mean it is high definition compared to ours where the result is pixelated and has a gap in the middle. It just accentuates how little the John Street stand is.

Less is more.

Newcastle (for once in their silly lives) got it right going for grey shades instead of stark black and white. I'm always surprised how little thought is given to the detail of what are expensive buildings. Yellow aisle paint and cheap writing in the seats. It's what kids would choose. Kids with crayons...

This is what's possible...

John D. I'm completely with you on the Newcastle grey coloured ones - I didn't mention it because I thought they might be washed out Black!

St. James' Park looks all the better because there isn't any stupid mosaic lettering either.

Oddly John, I seem to remember that the construction company that designed and built St. James' Park may have been the same as that which did the John Street stand or I may be muddling it up with Twickenham.

No comparison is there? That roof looks flipping beautiful from beneath it*. Much better than Wembley's for me.

*and the transparency helps the grass grow too!

The complete absence of Sports Direct hoardings leads me to suspect that image may not necessarily be of the finished article....

Mowlem did the JSS. No idea who did St James, but agree the stand in that picture is stunning. Shame about the other stands... :)

I've always wondered why on earth they put the blades back to front on the South Stand seats when they replaced the old wooden ones.

Was it intended or a genuine f*** up...?

John, you may know already but the lower stand in Newcastle, opposite the TV gantry is on the other side of the road to a rather majestic row of Georgian Terraced houses called 'Leazes Terrace'. Listed to the hilt, I think they are what restricts the height of that stand.

Before they put up the stand, it was an open standing terrace (sorry for the confusing puns), said houses had a great view of the pitch from the top floors - it looked superb from the ground, like a down-market version of the last bend at Chantilly where they race in front of Louis XIV's royal stables.

Someone post Düsseldorf's ground, it's like they found 50k seats off the back of a van

I kind of like it...

Like the tesco on spital hill!

As it is a time lapse camera taking night and day pictures, it seems highly likely that the white light adjustment isn't undertaken at all , thereby making the colour not look 'quite right.'
Leaving the white balance on automatic will constantly change the colours as the lighting changes and that will show up on the camera.
In other words the camera lies!
Simples

It's one thing taking Pinchy on in the shoutbox Davie, but if you're going to have a pop at Bucks Fizz, you'll have to get past me first.

I can only assume OP never took a wander down John Street before the current stand was built - would have had a coronary. Took loads of stick from Pig mates about our pink ground then.

Como???
Someone been on the white lightning?

Pinchy didn't get taken on in the shoutbox, he got owned mate .
Gobbed off about Jos (2 First Class stumpings) Butler being a better player than Johnnie Bairstow.
I think we both know his knowledge of cricket is next to FA.
He never replied when asked if he'd ever been to a game

I'm guessing the latter. A few years ago they re-painted the yellow gangway zones. Then the wind blew sand all over and it's got the texture of sandpaper. Same with the pink seats. When you're laying out a fortune on capital equipment if should be guaranteed that the red seats you ordered should be,er, red for years to come. Utterly slack tendering procedure. There should have been penalty clauses, contingency funds built in and a reasonable guarantee period.

You might find the yellow paint is textured so that it isn't as slippy.

The entire ground looks cheap, dated and nasty.

Yellow steps need to be white
Pink seats need replacing with red and they will stay red if you don't buy cheap. see Old Trafford, Anfield etc... no pink.
Them blades in the south stand seats look a bit shit
The Kop - enough said. At least it's awfulness keeps tickets cheap.
The red and white paint job on the front of the south stand looks nasty, the whole stand needs cladding with glass or something.
The big screen is the equivalent of 144p on YouTube

the only good things about the ground (material wise) are the pitch and the new dugouts

There is an easy way to bring colour back to plastic that has faded, just heat it up with a hot air gun to the point just before it melts and watch the pigments come back to the surface. (An old bodyshop trick to make bumpers and other plastic bits look like new on say an old Vauxhall Corsa)

If you look, the next time you are in the ground, the pink seat replacement has already started, there has been about a dozen or more replaced with proper red,i suppose its a start
might take a while tho, with this drip feed method.

That black square on the screen is the most annoying thing since 'I've got a headache'.
I wish they'd just upgrade the whole thing, not so it's the 'biggest in the football league' but the background is so cheesy, red lightning? It's not 2004.
And it only works for about 60% of the games anyway.

And the outside of the Kop could do with a tidy up, lick of paint. And the walls around the ground in general, why paint them grey? Why not red & white?
