But there's plenty saying that he didn't & that he was, effectively, forced out.
With all due respect... You don't force a footballer under contract to do anything.
I did say "effectively" (as opposed to actually).
Phipps has said Murphy wanted to go.
But there's plenty saying that he didn't & that he was, effectively, forced out.
Club spin (by a great PR man). Trying to deflect the flak.
Once we signed a few bearded players murphys head was turned to the gay club sceneBut how do you effectively force someone to move to Brighton against their will?

Who's saying that Alf? Some arseholes on twatter?Phipps has said Murphy wanted to go.

By making it clear that he's no longer wanted here, that the club positively want to accept Brighton's offer.
It needn't be a move against his will (I never said it was), but it may well have been the club forcing the move instead of Jamie.
Pre season friendless are notorious for telling you sweet fuck all about the season. Last season told us far more.
Emphasising the "clean slate" and "let's see what they can do" was probably his first mistake.
Thinking a 4 man midfield with Baxter in it could protect our questionable defence, his next.
Thinking any team we put out should contain Long, his third.
Let's hope he learns quickly.

You can't have 2 central midfielders when one of them can't run / defend for toffee. I accept it's isn't his primary role, but we've gone on for too long with midfielders who are too limited in their all round game.Surely its Basham's role to protect the back four not Baxter's - Baxter is the attacking player in that centre midfield, not the defensive one.
The biggest mistake thus far for me is the McEverley as Captain.
I think Walth's thread sums it up; 2 years since GCE, and we're flogging players off to Brighton as not to hurt their feelings. Where's the Club the asked Jags to give us an extra year? It can actually be done. It's an easy way out though isn't it? Page one of the book. Much harder is creating a situation whereby people dont actually want to join Brighton (or Hull, or etc etc) because we're better than them. Until someone is brave/strong/determined enough to work at creating those conditions rather than selling the best player every year the cycle can never be broken.
For the avoidance of doubt, I'm asking for us to be better than Brighton and Hull, not Liverpool, Spurs, Man Utd or any example some professional whatabouter wants to come back with. I know where we sit in the pyramid. We're miles below it and show no signs of getting near it.
There's a lot of reactionary horseshit flying about but this is sublime.Phipps has said Murphy wanted to go.

It wouldn't. Wait for it we'll be told he would have been left to rod in the reserves next. You can understand him wanting to go.
25, Championship, Bit more security for his family and maybe a stab at the National team...might be wrong but I don't believe the club would force him out...why would it?
Indeed, or Che could be given a decent run and it'll be the greatest piece of business ever. Hindsight is a great advantage, unfortunately we just have to hire a manager who knows the right price for every player and how improve the squad with the money brought in. Until Saturday most were convinced we'd got such a man.Well it could all hit the fan on Saturday, and that's a fact.........![]()

The club have forced him to move, get the fuck outta here you clown.![]()
No the club can't effectively or actually force him out. If you disagree please give an example as its Friday night and I'd enjoy the laugh. Maybe they grabbed his hand and wrote the transfer request for him against his will.Cracking post.
Do I need to explain the difference between effectively & actually again?
A footballer that can read and write, they are rarer than Rocking horse pooh. ( my one exception here is the Chief, big Wayne, a gentleman and a scholar)We'll never know unless Murphy writes his autobiography.
Wonder when that's out?

He was a decent player at our level, not excellent but a very decent player who's got us more than we deserved out of a game on a number of occasions. But this isn't Deane and Fjortoft territory here, we've got decent money and plenty of time to strengthen. I actually don't think we need a like for like replacement but that money has to the spent. Let's see what happen before we start appealing for someone to think of the children.I still am. Players come and players go. Long term we're headed in the right direction. Let's get behind the team and take them forwards.
