Phipps and co were wrong in asking Collins for his side of story?

Not the main reason, you are correct but it was wrong for Phipps to ask Doyle and Collins for their side of story
Why exactly?

They obviously thought they had decisions to make is it not right to take a broad range of opinions?

I'm beginning to think you have worked for Royal Mail for too long ;)

I completed my staff opinion survey this week btw

Ha ha. I think Staff Opinion survey is stupid and pointless anyway!

Because they pay Clough and they hire and fire (wrongly in my opinion) him.

It would be ridiculous to back him at any cost if there is unrest in the camp.

I don't know why Clough was sacked but I'm certain it wasn't because one player said "that nasty Mr Clough is being unfair to me, either he goes or I do."

I prefer to believe that Clough was at odds with the board over future recruitment, salary policy and general direction of the club.

It's the board's job to determine the strategy and the manager's job to implement it. I feel that was where the significant issues lay.

So the board tell the manager they want promotion. Wow that's well worth the hundreds of thousands they pay themselves. The manager is basically just the person who gets shit from players, fans and the board. Then when the manager is at odds with the players he gets shit on from above by the board because they listen to the players viewpoint over the man employed to be in charge of them?

This is a poor thread.

So much supposition, opinion, rumour, innuendo and conjecture right from the O.P.

Nobody knows if Collins has been disciplined actually. Then to use that guess and go on and on about a fringe and dated issue seems a bit out of any proportion to me.

Times are hard. Agenda indeed.

Over his rift with Clough

Clough didn't rate Collins. He was right!

He didn't like the way Collins undermined the confidence of younger players by ranting at them every time HE made a mistake. He was right!

He wasn't impressed when Doyle and Collins complained about Maguire being forced to train with the youngsters after making clear his desire to move to Hull. At first I thought he handled this badly but in the context of this season's exhibition of player power, I now realise - he was right!

Clough didn't like the Technical Board "process" - presumably because he wasn't convinced it would help him deliver promotion. Right again?

Two thirds of Blades fans thought Clough, with his almost 50% win ratio, two semi-finals, turn around job in his first season and 5th placed finish last time, should have been allowed to start this season. They were right!

Burton fans think Clough, with his 60% win ratio since joining them, is great. Maybe they're right too?

May be right, maybe wrong, it's easier to speculate in a certain way when things have gone wrong and on another bad day, waste of time but easier.

Anyway hardly any of that Bohemian has anything to do with the O.P. which was about Phipps consulting Collins "about his rift with Clough".

Who the Board should consult about a rift involving Collins and Clough, other than Collins and Clough, goodness only knows.

Anyway, on this fine day at Fleetwood, for someone to bring it up like he has, in the context that was chosen ( Collins not in the squad) beggars my belief. It's like 30 times removed from the game today but it gives everybody a chance to have a good moan about Phipps, the Board, sacking Clough, Adkins, Collins, McCabe etc. on another bad day in a disastrous season. Better than talking about football I suppose.

I take the implication to be that Collins grassed on Clough and was a lot to do with him getting the sack. That is so stupid it is hardly worth commenting on. It will have been one of many things that weren't right last season and in the final analysis of whether Clough got the sack, maybe about 3% for goodness sake.

Collins has been a top end League One player at best during his career at best, and his decline has been dramatic over the last couple of years, he was awful last season without Maguire at his side, and this season he has been just as bad.

I don't know if there is any truth in him being instrumental in the sacking of Clough, but if it is true then whoever has listened him is just plain and simply fucking stupid, and i can't understand why he has got another 30 games this season. I knew at the start of the season that a Sheffield United side with him in it would not get promoted. Then that fucking idiot in charge has chosen not to replace him, and instead spunk all of his minimal wage budget on the equally hapless Dean Hammond.

Conference north in 5 years, tweet that fecker Jim

Don't agree. It's Clough who takes the responsibility over the team and Clough who makes the decisions. Either he is in charge or he isn't. This stinks of interference where it isn't needed. The money men don't have a clue about team affairs so why should they be involved?
It's a great shame there wasn't as much interference in stopping Clough signing the dross.

When according to Jim they weren't even aware Clough was overspending it's hardly surprising they had no idea about the quality of his signings.

Indeed it does appear the board get involved when not needed but have no involvement when it would be really prudent to. Another reason we are where we are. Sold Blackman, sacked Wilson, let Blackwell spend all the money, sack him 3 games into a season. And on and on.
