What about Worksop's finest - Alan Hodgkinson? Capped five times for England has to be worth something.
I might be a bit controversial here lads but I only saw Hodgy from 1966 onwards and from what I saw of him live he didn't fill me with confidence.
He was small for a keeper and his handling especially crosses was poor I don't know whether it was them green cotton gloves but compared to Gordon Banks , Pat Jennings ,Tommy Lawrence, Gordon West he was never in that class.
How he performed pre 66 I don't know

Hodgy in my time was very much like Kelly. Very athletic (later not) and a great shot stopper. Not great in the air but superb at coming out to snuff out through balls (ala Paddy). Sadly I missed his earlier best years but for the era he was up there with the best. Think John Hope was better than a lot remember, just lost confidence at a time we started to struggle. Agree that Tom Mcallister was potentially the best before his injury. Remember one save from a free kick at Leicester where he couldn't have seen the shot till it cleared the right hand side of the wall as he saw it. Can't remember the name of the taker but he had a right dig on him and hit it perfectly in the corner. Most of ours covered their eyes because they knew it was in already. Still to this day don't know how he saw it or got across the goal and got his hand to it and turned it round the post. To be fair apart from the odd exception in my lifetime we've been singularly blessed with goalkeepers. Good luck and Merry Christmas to all of them and their families.

The one with Fash playing basketball, twice because the ref inexplicably did not give a pen the first time, was 1-1. A game Bradshaw said he remembers because Vinny went went to see his Wimbledon cronies before the game. On his return he said 'I think we're going to okay today lads, it's going to be a draw'.

The one where we had faded Leeds legend Day in net was on the last game of the season when we had around 5,500 of an 8,500 crowd at Selhurst. We lost horribly 3-0. I remember Robbie Earle looking good, can't think of anyone playing remotely well for us. Our fans invaded the pitch and snapped the crossbars at the end.

That Bradshaw story can't be right. Fashanu handled the ball twice in the area. The first to give us a pen that Deane scored to make it 1-1 (Cork had scored early on to give Wimbledon the lead). The second time in the last minute that the ref missed. Obviously if there was something dodgy going on to ensure the game ended in a draw, he wouldn't have handled that second time.

Also, we went into that game having won 7 on the trot. Winning that one would have equalled the club record and we were very much the favourites. We would not have been overtly satisfied with a draw.

With all due respect to Mr Bradshaw, this sounds very much like a wise after the event story.

Not seen it mentioned but Pembo went in goal against Liverpool first game back in the old Div 1 after Tracey got his cheekbone broken early on, seem to remember he did ok.

He did indeed. He did ok to start with, but made a bad mistake for Liverpool's 3rd goal in our 3-1 defeat when he dropped a straightfoward unchallenged catch at Ian Rush's feet and he tapped in.

Can't believe I've got stuck in to Hodgy and took no pain it's pretty quite on here this Xmas.

Anyway 2-0 tomorrow
