I have been to London Road ground twice, one in Aug 1972 and one in April 1982. Both 4-0 victories for the Blades. The first one was in the Watney Cup (see link below starting at 10 mins 57 secs). Ian MacKenzie gave us the lead just before Clive "the book" Thomas sent TC off for a bad tackle on Tommy Robson. Playing with 10 men we scored 3 more goals (Dearden, Woody pen and Hemsley). In 1982 with Peterborough looking good near the top of the table, we hammered them that night (Edwards 2, King and Morris the scorers)

In the link below you can also see our 3-0 win at Notts County (Woody, TC 2) starting at 9 mins 20 secs

An interesting thing about tomorrow's game, is that it will be only our 9th competitive game against Peterborough, yet those 9 games have been played in 3 different different divisions and 3 different cup competitions:

27/1 62 FA Cup A W3-1 (Russell 2, Pace)
2/8/72 Watney Cup A W4-0 (MacKenzie, Dearden, Woodward (pen), Hemsley)
21/4/82 4th tier A W4-0 (Edwards 2, King, Morris)
8/5/82 4th tier H W4-0 (Edwards 2, Kenworthy, Morris)
28/8/84 League Cup H W1-0 (McHale)
5/9/84 League Cup A D2-2 (Morris (pen), Edwards)
21/11/09 2nd tier H W1-0 (Camara)
9/3//10 2nd tier A L0-1

Four nil and nil four, two wins home and away season 1981-1982. That can't have happened very often.

I never realised the goalscorers were nearly the same as well.

remember being under the shed in a packed London Road, Morris destroyed them with a stunning display of wing play , probably as good a game as you could get from a wide man, we went there just under them in the table but the 2 4-0 wins in the space of a month altered that, they usual gate was around 3k and there were around 9000 there I believe, was rammed

I was there in 1982, I think we took about 5,000 fans

I was in the main stand that night, a mixture of Blades and Posh fans. They were unreserved seats and they'd let too many in so they fetched some garden type chairs and put them in the gangways! Unthinkable now.

Great win in a vital game.

I was in the shed as well. It was rammed. Morris was awesome and King had a good game as well. Before the game they were cocky confident of turning us over and strangely vanished like early summer fog after.

I was there for that one, Silent.

Posh were always my second team as they were the most local to where I was brought up and between 1966 and 1970, I used to go on a coach to most home games, so I reckon I'll have more memries than most of London Road.

Tony Millington in goal, ex*wl Frank Noble at fullback, Frank Rankmore as a big no nonsense centre half (followed by John Wile) and Big Jim Hall at centre forward.... I could go on :-)

Me too.

I remember calling off at a pub on the A1, on the way home.
I think it might have been called the Sibson. The landlord who was working on his own suddenly got descended upon by hundred of blades. He had a right smile on his face thinking how much extra trade he was doing.
Little did he know that a group of Blades had lifted the cellar hatch from outside and were promptly helping themselves to crates and crates of ale onto their mini bus.
I always smile every time I go past that pub and remember this memorable night out.

We did two doubles over Pompey in consecutive seasons.

16 Aug 1969 Portsmouth v Sheffield United W 1-5 League Division Two
07 Oct 1969 Sheffield United v Portsmouth W 5-0 League Division Two
30 Sep 1970 Portsmouth v Sheffield United W 1-5 League Division Two

09 Jan 1971 Sheffield United v Portsmouth W 2-0 League Division Two

Can't be many sides to have had 5 put past them 3 times running (if ever) , made more remarkable as two of our five goal victories were on their own slag heap.
A mere 17-2 aggregate.
