Said it once and i will say this again... that is a pittance considering our club's situation... £80m for basically any other team except us would be a lot to spend in one season, as most teams in this league already had decent enough squads/infrastructure in place (including WBA and Fulham - don't forget they had very recent epl stints).

But when we start to look at the big picture with our spending: we have the lowest expenditure out of current EPL clubs in the past 5 seasons, and then also compare the figure spent to where our squad was at coming in to this league (no permanent GK, majority L1/Championship standard, extremely shallow defensive and midfield cover)...

we had to spend £130m to merely compete on both 1st team quality and squad depth... it is like trying to bail the titanic with buckets.

The recruitment has not been brilliant, but also we've tried to go about it sensibly and kept our wage structure and philosophy of British players in place too.. it is a very difficult one to balance.

I'm just glad we aren't facing relegation with some overpaid foreign acquisitions who will leave at the first sniff of relegation PLUS the ensuing financial oblivion. Look at Stoke, Wigan and Sunderland for an example of this

That's the worrying thing for me, we've spent £130m and the depth is still poor. The starting lineup isn't any better either. How does that even happen?

The depth is poor because someone decided we should recruit a lot of new signings as back up rather than replacing existing first team players ( who would end up being back up).

We needed to improve on Norwood,Basham,Sharp,Mcgoldrick, Stevens, Lundstram,and possibly Baldock over the last three windows. Over the next 2 windows, if we somehow stay up, we will need to improve on Fleck .

The last three transfer windows have been, in general, poor despite comments from the club to the contrary.

What about Burnley?

Relegated in 2014-15, kept Sean Dyche and then promoted straight back to the Premier League in 2015-16.

Very comparable example to us.

If we finish on or around 33 points as Burnley did that season, no one would suggest anything other keeping Wilder for the next season, but the problem is 33 points looks miles away.

If we were on 7 or 8 points right now (e.g. on course for 33 points), then we wouldn't even be discussing this at all, no one would be questioning Wilder. Making the worst start in Premier League history has changed everything, no one saw this coming.

What happens next season? Jags is 38, Sharp 34, McGoldrick 33 and Basham is 32. As soon as we get relegated, these players will already be past it or at least very close.

Multiple players will leave and join other PL clubs, can’t imagine that Berge, Mousset or O’Connell will stay with us.

Next season is gonna be more of a fucking nightmare than this season. Anyone that thinks we’re gonna be contenders to go straight back up are gonna get a fucking rude awakening.

The thing is when you can't afford to buy players from the Premier League which we can't then you are shopping for players who might make the step up and it is bound to have a higher failure rate. Another alternative is to shop overseas something we don't have a scouting network to do just yet. That is how far this club has fallen behind since we were last at this level for more than one season. 25 years of lower leagues takes a good few years or mega bucks to catch up again. I don't for one minute accept our squad despite over £100m spent is no better than the one that came out of the Championship that is just bullshit.

The standard of football is very good. apart from Chelski. we don,t get pasted. the problem as we all know carnt score Mcburnie is a waste of money if you ask me.
He must be dropped.£20m and carnt hit a barn door. Wilder must pick Brewster for every game. try with Burke if that dunt work try Mousay if that dunt work try Billy.McGoldrick if that dunt work. Transfer window opens soon. I would think a centre back and a goal poacher must be signed. you have two choices don,t buy and get relegated or break the transfer record fee and wage budget and stay up. that is what the prince has to do.ok. my choice we must stay in the premier league. whatever the cost.if we get relegated in could take many years to get back in.

We beat you on that score. We spent 140m on players in one window and looked a lower half Championship team. We needed to bung the guy that plugs in the goal line machine a few quid to try and get a point form our game against you and we only scrapped survival on the last day, due a lot to the fact that Watford had a moment of madness and sacked Pearson with a couple of games to go and Bournemouth just left it too late to realise they can play football.

The only game that we should have won is the WBA game. We deserved nothing against Fulham and probably should have had a point each against Leeds and Villa.

The results were fair in the other games I reckon.

We were lucky to get a point against Fulham and didn’t really hurt West Ham apart from a gilt edged McBurnie chance, but that’s about as useful as a chocolate fireguard based on his shooting prowess.

They were free agents (and still are some) that we could have easily tempted to come to us but we don't want to pay the wages for some strange reason e.g. If Welbeck wanted 70k pw would that be worth it with 100m coming in for this season? course it would but we decide to sign championship quality. God knows who recommends players to wilder

if we are bricking it that much about wages... circumvent it by paying a sign on fee which is paid in monthly installments... ta daaa nowt off the wage bill, its just taken from our transfer budget
